Early in WOW the quest notes slowly scrawled onto the text as if it were being written.  I'd use that to take a bathroom break or grab something to drink.  I never get into the quests.  I just click accept and move on.  Yet some people get all into the game lore and start arguments with dev's over inaccuracies however minute they are.

There is an option setting to have the quest text pop up all at once, instead of scrawling out

The point of my message being I am curious to know who actually reads all the quest text.  Earlier today our group was ready except for one individual.  When asked what the hold up was they were reading the quest notes... /shrug.

 In lotro you have to read otherwise you will end up looking for info online and that takes more time.

I was playing to some Aion last evening and gathered a bunch of new quests, and I realized I hadn't read any of them, I just accept as quickly as I can and move on.

Later on I might reopen them to review the kill objectives, but other than that, I have no clue if there's any real lore behind the game.  (even when a quest has a cut scene, I just press escape and move on.)

Depends on the game. I've found the PotBS quest text to be interesting and often relevant, so I always read those. The same with Asheron's Call quests.  In WOW and LOTRO, I skip past the text because it's usually either uninteresting to me or not relevant to my gameplay. In EQ2 I would probably read more qurests if it wasn't 3-6 panels of stuff.

Simple. In any game that gives me a summary after the fact so I can complete the quest quickly and easily without reading the quest text I skip the text. Any game that doesn't give me a summary afterwards so I would have to go look up the information somewhere else, I read the text.

But in most major MMOs right now (including LotRO not sure what that other guy is talking about). I can go to a guy with an icon over his head, talk to him, instantly hit accept and then open my quest log for a summary of the quest and, depending on the game now, get a spot on my map on where to go. So why waste my time reading when it is handed to me? Just like every other player now a days, I hit a quest hub run to every single guy with a marker and hit accept, then stop for a minute to look at the summarys and see which direction to go.

Wow maybe but Lotro even a small quest is connected to the main story and gives a good reason why your are asked to do something.

Hm...I dunno.  I'd guess someone new to the game, but it probably depends on the level range.  I am an alt-o-holic, so I have pretty much every quest horde-side up to about 35-40ish memorized.  Anything above that, and I might skim over the quest log.  Some of it is actually interesting.

I noticed I was doing the same thing in Aion, right from the start.  Read enough to get the gist of the quest, if that, then accepted.  The quest dialog in Aion just seemed really, really bad.

I noticed I was doing the same thing in Aion, right from the start.  Read enough to get the gist of the quest, if that, then accepted.  The quest dialog in Aion just seemed really, really bad.

Agree but was expected .... 'cough' .... korean game you expect better?

From what I understanding reading the official posts on SWTOR, you won't be able to just click and go in that game.  The entire game is voiced over.  You have to actually interact with the NPCs as the conversation is going on and the choices you make with each NPC has a real life affect on your character and his/her standing with it's faction.

 Depends on how bored I am. I just feel like leveling that day I will skip the text and go grind some quests. If I am bored and don't really care I may read the quest text. Sometimes you can find hidden gems of humor in the quest text :)

Well, yeah, I did, actually.  After hearing Aion was the best thing since sliced bread, I expected a lot.  So much so that I pre-ordered the CE so I could try it, and found the game to be laughable.  But, again, I hopped back on the hype train, because everyone was blabbering about patch 1.5, and how it would make the game incredible. 

Except it didn't.  None of this is on-topic though, so I'll stop.

Me too bought the CE $70 and after the free month decided not to sub, I accept the loss and moved on subbing will be more loss and no fun in return. Hey at least my 3 y/o daughter has a new toy the winged asmodian gladiator chick.

Depends on the game, but I try to read the quests.  Hard to do in some games when you're grouped with people with ADHD.

In my WOW days I rarely read the quests because they were crap.  Quests in all the F2P games I've tried are about 100 times worse than WOW quests as far as immersion and actual grasp of the Engrish language.

If I don't know the context of what I am doing then why am I doing it? It's like reading a book but deciding to skip a chapter because it deals with a character you are not fond of. Well, that may be all well and good but it will start to leave holes in what you are doing.

The only time I don't read the quests is if I have done the quest before and am just going back. For instance, I've done the 1-10 on both sides several times because I was experimenting with an alt or realized I didn't like the look of the character I made.

I read the quest notes in full the 1st time I do the quests to get the feel of the game. The second time I dont bother reading it.

I read everything that every NPCs says whether they are just a generic NPC that never does anything or a quest giver.  Usually I spend a great deal of time exploring every zone new & old before I jump right into questing, but when I do; while reading over the quest descriptions of where to go and what to kill or pick-up I'm like oh yeah I remember where that is.

If its something I havn't yet explored or can't recall I'll read the quest details many times, while consulting the maps for directions and locations before I accept it to find out where I need to go.  When it comes to quests that are vague in what to do I'll spend an extensive amount of time trying to figure it out on my own before I'll even consider looking it up...I mean come on we're paying to play the game, not paying someone else to tell us what to do and where to go.  So I hardly ever look at guides or details online unless I've already done it once before and I don't feel like figuring it out again if I have forgotten it!

With an Alt if the MMO is worth playing through again I'll skim over the quests I don't recall but I'll usually click through them to expedite it.

...and yes I will hold up any and all groups until I'm done reading and ready to move on! {always playing a main healer class}  I play on my terms, and not the groups' whom click done and then complain they don't know what to do cause they didn't read it!

Of course there is a point. You get xp, gold & items from quests. You are doing it to advance your character, to become more powerful.

In fact, that is the reason why people play Diablo type of games.
