Every MMO does this...you don't reveal everything your game offers at the first press release...the announcement of the classic FFXI races is the first step at targeting your current core FFXI crowd which is SE's main target interested {do I need to get the quote for you...hehe} There are players out there that are not interested in the game yet because its too similar to FFXI, and offers nothing new to them yet, but the target crowd thus far is happy because of that familiarity. Then a few months later SE reveals new details, like a new race and more classes that are more targeted towards those players that were not interested in FFXI and walked away before. However; this time the new details; they like and are now interested in playing. |

Since you seem to like cutting off peoples posts in your quotes, I'll reiterate it. Keep hoping for new races at launch, but it's highly unlikely. Instead of new playable races, SEs hinting at unique clans for the races. But they'll all be iterations of something in the past. Races aren't important to me, like SE put it, they main difference between them is just visual. The playable race page looks finished to me. They can always change it and add a new one or two, of course, but I can only see that happening in an expansion or major update.

i agree, new races are not entirely needed, SE defnitly changed them around so its not like were getting the same exact things. i do have to say i was a little dissapointed myself that they were not using other staple races from FF series (like others said, the Ivalice races would have been perfect, though ud have to make the world ivalice which would change alot) but i was gunna play a human or elf anyways. I really wouldnt expect a new race if its not out the gate, there is just no point for it. 1 character can play everything and since they said the starting status would be much less of a factor this time (wich im happy about) the only purpose of the race is mainly cosmetic. you wouldnt see anyone wanting to start all over a year or so into the game just to have a new look, and im pretty sure SE knows that (hence why we never had new ones in XI) they avoid the hell out of the "is there more races" question and not once have said no flat out, so its very likely we will have atleast 1 other varient or race that they are just hiding away. Just give it some time and it will eventually pop up, though im guessing later then sooner. |

This is the Sole reason I will NOT be trying, or even looking at FFXIV. The Races.. If I wanted to play a Taru, Galka, Elvaan, Hume or Mithra I would just play FFXI. I don't care that you changed the names to some stupid variation or changed them completely. Bottom line is Square/Enix with it's infinite funds from the FF Franchise couldn't take the time and effort to make new unique races... Garbage. This is hands down the most disappointing thing I have ever seen in an MMO. Square broke its own #1 cardinal rule of FF games with this. Every FF game until this point was suppose to be different, every FF until this point has had unique characters and race changes, and every FF story is supposed to be unique. This game just butt secks that all to death. (Note they kinda screwed the pooch with X2 but no one seemed to care since it was more of a continuation) There are some rules Square always followed for every FF game, like every one has a chocobo or some variation of a chocobo. Every FF has some mention to Cid. They have a few quirks they like to follow. Somewhere along the line though, they got EXTREMELY LAZY and due to this have now lost a long time FF Fan. I am not some random whiner, I own EVERY FF game in both American and Japanese formats, from the Famicom, Superfamicom to the Nintendo / Super Nintendo, through the PSone, PS2, Wii, everything, If it was made by Square/Enix I own it. Brave Fencer Musashi, Chrono Trigger/ Chrono Cross, Xenogears... I could go on for hours listing all the shit I have backed these people by.
That has all came to an end with the announcement of this game. I have now lost all faith in Square, I won't even be buying FF13 FF13 versus or anything after it on the console. That is how pissed off I am about the laziness of this games creation.
F**K Square/ Enix

I do not consider myself a "fanboy". A fan (until this game was announced) sure. I might own them all but you never heard me say that all FF games were great games. Some of them are garbage in my opinion. I bought them anyway because I knew that at a minimum they would be different and story good or bad, and offer something new. Which FFXIV seems it will not do. To be a "fanboy" you have to back something regardless if it sucks ass or not. The FF games have more good in the series than bad, but some of the games were just horrible. That being said, quite tossing around random words like "fanboy" which you do not even seem to know what the meaning to it is. |

Because what you say isn't logical, as it seems you have not even played any of the FF games yourself. Most of them do have humanoid races. FF9 being the exception, and I guess you could say 7 since red13 was an animal. That is beside the point. Also it was fine to continue a story as in tactics or FFX and X2. BUT If you take a FF game, and you have 5 races, and 5 years or so later you make a NEW FF GAME and the ONLY THING you change is removing the Galkas TAIL and the other 4 out of 5 races look IDENTICAL to another game you made. That is lazy and incompetent garbage. I am sorry. They didn't even spruce them up at all, I mean they basically took the damn game files from 11 and high ressed them some and pasted them into the 14 game file folder. G A R B A G E. |

You are just doing what I have seen many do in this post already, trying to twist and manipulate the post of others, because they do not agree with you. I don't care that you wanna play this game or not, and I don't care that you like recycled garbage. That is fine with me. Enjoy it. Just because most of the protagonist in the FF games were a humanoid race, many of the FF games has many different types of creative mobs and characters in them. Yoshitaka Amano is one of the greatest artist on planet earth. I do not hate the other games because they were different, Did you play Cloud in FF 1-12 as the main character? Nope. Did you fight Sephiroth and Shinra in FF 1-12... Nope. Each and every character from all of the games looked different and had different characteristics. FFXI you play a Hume, Mithra, Galka, Elvaan, and TaruTaru FFXIV you play a Hume, Mithra, Galka, Elvaan, and TaruTaru See my point now? |

My God, you have got to be kidding me. Not even going to try XIV because they have similar races?
I guess you've decided to forsake every other MMO then too.
WTF!!! There's a humanoid type race in the game?! FAIL! WTF!!! There's an elvaan type race in the game?! FAIL! WTF!!! There's a gnome/dwarf type race in the game?! FAIL! WTF!!! This race looks too much like that race from another game! FAIL!
Every single game that comes out will have characters that are just reiterations from previous ones. Get over it. If SE came out with completely new races, it wouldn't be long until we figure out they were based on some previous work.
SE has emphasized the big differences between races is mainly just for visual show.
The game uses similar races from a previous game...the game is absolutely the same in every aspect because they look TOO ALIKE! Blasphemy!

What I can't get my head around, is how so many people fail to understand what they are seeing in the making here. Let's see if I can make it simplier.
This will be Hypothetical -
Im gonna use the characters from FF7 since most people know them the best unless they are true FF Fans.
FF18 comes out Jan 1st 2011. Takes place on Asura. Lush Green lands typical MMO Fantasy Setting. Races (meaning each player will look like a variation of this character with the ability to maybe change height and haircolor) Cloud Barrett Cid Tifa Sephiroth FF19 comes out Jan 1st 2015. Takes place on Azura. Lush Green lands typical MMO Fantasy Setting. Races (meaning each player will look like a variation of this character with the ability to maybe change height and haircolor) Cloud Barrett Cid Tifa Sephiroth Yep, that is basically what Square just did.

hahahaha, this conversation is pure win!
Using the same races as FFXI but with some very nice physical changes is the best thing SE could have done! Also there is no SE formula that they always change everything in every FF they release...its their IP and they can do whatever they damn well please.
Tis sad that you're upset cause the races are all the same so far, big F'n deal...
EDIT: In response to above post....and your point is what!? Its Square-Enix, its Final Fantasy...I'd still play it no matter what, the races being the same make no difference. |
