But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist. |

I thought libs were suppose to be good with sarcasm: "A justice of the peace has the legal right to marry two individuals seeking to wed, provided they have a marriage license. In Connecticut and Massachusetts, where same-sex unions are legal, a justice of the peace is often called upon. However, the justice of the peace is under no legal obligation to perform the ceremony. Even though I kinda agree with Cleffy's underlying thoughts about the ACLU, in the grander scheme of things at least they fight for some people's liberties. :/ better than none at all I guess :) It's their money and time so they have the right to cherry pick what they choose to back. But they back all sorts of cases, liberal and conservative. The conservatives only rant against the ACLU when the ACLU isn't defending them. But when this happens: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,108140,00.html You don't hear boo.

Perhaps its the cynic in me that wants them to fight for all violations of rights. yes I appreciate that its my definition of rights and not necessarily theirs =p I will be honest and admit that it would take a lot to convince me that the ACLU does not have a liberal agenda. I'm going to be lazy here for a moment (right before bed) and state one of my unchecked opinions of them...don't they support Affirmative Action? There are such better ways to help underprivledged groups achieve success than reverse discrimination. :( Do you support Liberty, Freedom and wish to Uphold the Constitution? Although I agree with you I think some people's views on marriage are....interesting =p I'm curious why Muslims feel so ostrasized in your country. (not being sarcastic here) Are Muslim-Anglosaxon relations really as bad there as they are being portrayed here in the US? I read a lot more stories of home grown British terrorists than US (and our population is much larger.) Curious as to what your thoughts are on that. Thanks :) 1. He didn't say that the UK is a bastion of tolerance, did he? 2. Yes it's true,in the UK their are millions of mixed race marriages/couple and children,no one gives a shit unless you are part of the minority BNP. 3.Really! most Muslims in the UK are happy with their lives, you obviously read to much in the papers or perhaps it's fox news filling your head with bullshit. 4.Europe is far more tolerant than the USA,especially the UK. 5.Anglo Saxon..lol,get real man, most British white people are from main land Europe, they can trace their ancestry back to the Normans and other groups, you do know who the Normans were ,don't you. 6. As for home grown terrorist, you are better of asking the white Irish that question, especially how they have been the biggest home grown terrorists in British history. Yes, yesterday Irish terrorist targeted a police man by planting a bomb under his car, they were not Muslims but white Irish terrorist. Oh, and who said we are just talking about Muslims, thinking out loud, are we? Curious to see what your thoughts are on that..

Thanks :) I can only speak from personal experience, but my experience is based over the last 30 years & i've lived in 3 different cities in the UK. The minority of Muslims are happy to "integrate" with everyone else that being they took the time to learn English, they get nvolved in community affairs of all ethnicities & are generally open & friendly..... However, there is a very large proportion of Muslims who feel they must cling to & preserve their culture & they do this by self-segregating & being detached from their communities, developing into insular, secular little pockets of people largely cut off from wider society, these are the individuals who are most often complaining about how they are treated, completely ignorant to the simple fact that if you do not mingle you are viewed with suspicion, acceptance is a two-way street and it is as mch their fault as the fault of others that they are not welcomed. People fear that which they do not know, if I went to live in a foreign country I would not stand around talking English all the time & refusing to learn that country's language.....I would consider it rude of me to do that, I would only talk English if I was only in English company & no natives were there. I would try to get involved in the community, meet them, welcome them to ask questions about my culture, my practices, I wouln't hide from their natural curiosity, or segregate myself in some pocket of English people. I don't believe in a thing called "race" unless it is the "Human Race" , culture, religion, these are aspects of humanity not what defines being human, but what defines your personality, skin colour doesn't by itself define anything except how much sunlight your skin can stand before it burns, anything else ascribed to skin colour is done on a predjudical level, not a rational one. As far as the Justice goes, it's not about race, it's about him not doing his damn job. As far as his comments about mixed race children goes then that is not his place to make judgements about it, it is the parents of said children whose decision it is, & theirs alone, nobody has the right to pass comment except them, they are after all the ones who will raise their kids. Ultimately, every single form of life on this planet had a single solitary parent, a single solitary microbe that was one of many but whose progeny populateed the entire globe, we are all children of the earth, the animals, the insects, the birds are all related to us, distantly, but related nonetheless, certain religions place us above our animal kin, but they are wrong, we are far more connected to our environment & our ecology than we realise. Stop the hate. |

I'll keep your numbering for easy reference 1. He may not have said it in so many words but he did say : "In the UK their are millions of mixed race people and marriages, you walk down the street and their is black men with white women and mixed race kids,no one gives a shit." He implies that there are more interracial couples in the UK and I don't think it's unfair to extrapolate he's trying to seem superior. 2. I sincerly doubt there are "Millions" since your population according to your own 2001 census data is roughly 60 million. And only 8% of that are minorities. Here's a breakdown of your census data-- White 92.1% And for comparison US census data for just whites Whites : 74% Source = US 2001 Census, UK 2001 Census, Wiki I don't think you guys have had to deal with the same sort of racial tensions that we have, simply because diversity in your country is not on the same level as ours. I realize both of our countries have had an increase in minority groups total % of the population since 2001. That said there are many interracial couples in the United States as well and most people don't really care. I'm trying very hard not to say "we're better than you" since even if I thought that, it doesn't add to the discussion =p so please don't take it that way. I will say the US has had more experience than really any other country in dealing with racism and racial tensions. 3. It's not Fox news that reports this is your own news media. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/1551868.stm for just one example of an article about racial anger growing in the UK. The BBC is filled with hundreds of articles just like it. 4. Europe doesn't know the first thing about racial diversity. It's easy to claim you're tolerant when you don't live with the people you claim to be tolerant of. Most countries in Europe are 80-90% their own racial majority. I've been to Europe and during my travels there they have the same petty prejudices that we have here in the US. French smell, Germans are loud, Irish are drunks, etc etc. 5. I am quite fluent on the history of the British Peoples. You are right though that the majority are indigenous peoples, I think the latest figure was 80%. 6. I brought up Muslims because it's been in the news recently and it is a subject we can all relate to. Also I'm pretty sure the Protestant Irish (part of the UK) are not very tolerant of their Catholic brothers and sisters. I've been to Ireland and Northern Ireland and visited Belfast and toured around and saw more of the murals. Some pretty disturbing stuff. The tension is just under the surface there and if I remember correctly there were several murders just recently in the past year (plus the incident you talk about). Scary stuff. That said the people couldn't have been nicer to me :) (I think they wanted my money =p lol) I tend to believe that most people who claim they are "tolerant" and "not a little bit racist" are fooling themselves and hypocrites. My two cents =p

Well that's what I've found after a bit of search. http://www.goantiques.com/detail,zeppelinflieger-luftwaffe-german,1534404.html DIAL: Black non-reflective military dial signed "W-ZZ" (Wermacht SS) and "ZEPPELINFLIEGER" under the post. Mint dial. Plus this one en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enigma_machine might have something to do with that double ZZ. Not sure though, I did know from my history lessons that the double z's were associated with the wermacht but not really why. |
