Lemmy says it best ...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought. |

Yeah, the music is well done and the lyrics are moving even if the auto-tuning is very evident. Here's the other one by the same composer. Sadly, he only made two.
I couldn't listen to the whole song you responded with. It sounded pretty good, but something about it bothered me personally. I don't really have anything against Christian music - I like many of the tunes they have - but the lyrics distract me too much from enjoying it. I think I may have some defenses built up over time, like a mental black list of "words and contexts I don't like" or something... this is what I get for leaving the church on bad terms, I suppose. I will have to work that out eventually - being an Atheist doesn't mean I should hate everything about religion. The arts should be appreciated on equal terms, belief shouldn't prevent one from enjoying a truly good piece. Thanks for showing me that. |

Draconian - Heaven Laid in Tears
Behold the skies, they're ful of lies... in disguise O, creator, so long we have fallen to our knees Behold the skies, they're ful of lies... in disguise And we, warriors moulded in the blood of his vanity So let the night take thee in her arms, El-shaddai, we serve the, henceforth... no more Show me heaven, show me guilt... embrace the pain Behold the skies, they're ful of lies... in disguise I have seen us bathing in blood to defend his very glory =========================================================== |

Rebel Jesus is certainly my favorite Christmas song, as well as the message I most closely identify with. Browne has a very eloquent and unique way of stating the obvious (which, ironically, is often overlooked). My second favorite would probably be Nothing but a Child by Steve Earle.
My father set me onto Here With Us by Joy Williams, after a Christmas play he went to this past year, and it sparked some good conversation. It's not too often that worship songs (or worshipers, for that matter) refer to anything biblical as a mystery, but how could it be anything else?
It's still a mystery to me
