According to some select episodes of GiantBombcast Barnett is sucking hard on the EA tit, no idea about Jeff.

Concidering the lies they've been feeding us pre-launch to hype the game, I would hide as well. Pretty sure Paul Barnett is still there, dunno about Jeff hickman

If it contains the words video and game, it must be a WOW clone.

Honestly at the time I was mostly playing and talking about AOC then. But I do remeber one major argument thrown up between fans of the two studios, that was that mythic was forthcoming with info. As an example when they cut the third faction plans they were very up front about it. I don't know I remember much talk about lies coming from mythic.

don't think they actually lied, they just SUPER hyped the game so much it made us think it would cure cancer. sadly it didn't, nor was very fun after a month.

They did seem to be upfront on a lot of things, they just were unable to live up to their original plans for the game. They also overhyped everything to the point where all the players expected too much, and were disapointed by the final product. I personally was a big fan of the game and was greatly looking forward to it. Then after they entered beta and came close to launch I could tell that they were not creating a game polished enough for me. So I passed on buying it, and saw that over the months after launch that it was a good thing I passed.

Can't really blame them for trying to make a game look greater than it really is. Thats just advertising.

idk about that, i think the over hype hurt them more than anything, as you said we expected to much. i mean how could we not by the way they talked about it? people's expectations would have been lower going in if they had just used the normal hype most games use, and i think myself atleast might have enjoyed it more. just going in and expecting this awsome great game of all games and playing the ok game they gave was just s huge letdown.

Honestly, I was expecting DAoC 2... but it turned out to be DAoC -2.

I still don't understand how developers of such a great PvP (RvR, whatever) game can allow themselves to go backwards. They do have a lot of great features in WAR, but they didn't have the balls to do things on their own and listen to their fans.

Shame EA can't blame this one on piracy and move it to the consoles.

Well you honestly went into the game w/ the wrong mindset then. If you thought this was going to be Dark Age of Camelot 2. In all honesty, they should've just made Dark Age 2.. and not rely on a popular IP to make a game. But we would still run into the problem of Mythic themself's, and i don't care how fun DAoC was... they didn't do themself's favor's in the long run. On how they went about maintaining it and it greatly showed again with Warhammer.

Mythic is like the little engine that could's... black sheep cousin. Where the little engine could!!!! Mythic tried and couldn't.

If anything, I would say it was the fans' fault for becoming so overhyped about a game. Mythic was just doing their job marketing the game. Of course they are not going to come out and say "Man, our game sucks" or "This game is boring, guys". When people let their expectations get out of hand and fail to do a reality check, the potential for let down can become enormous.

Cant blame the players too, its Warhammer we are talking about, plus RvR which Mythic is known in DAOC. And they go to "trademark" RvR for themselves.

All these things and couple together with Paul, whom if you look from another pov is actually doing his job very well, makes up all the hype in us...

the game was rushed out. It wasn't mythics fault EA gave them a very unrealistic timeline for the release. EA only cared about box sales which it got. Mythics been trying every since to complete a game while its live. They aren't doing that bad of a job either

You shouldn't talk about things you don't know crap about. The game was delayed by a year *after* EA came in and it was their money that even made it possible.

Paul Barnett was the major reason why I didn't like WAR.   Enough said about that guy.

twitter.com/account/profile_image/thatbarnettblok about sums up his current position, keep your mouth closed!

He is integral to the IP and very close with GW, if Paul goes all hell would break loose.  He used to post video blog updates, but they caused uproars in the community, how dare he joke and show any sense of humour when the game sucks, hang him!

How it happened is that Mythic tried to be someone they're not (Blizzard). If they had stuck to their guns, Warhammer might've been a different and more successful game.

However, let's not forget that Mythic did make some huge mistakes in DAOC. Trials of Atlantis, New Frontiers and crowd control spells... three of the major issues that crushed DAOC.

Was a great game until they started tinkering with it.

The Warhammer Online license was acquired by Mythic on May 18, 2005

released in North and South Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand on September 18, 2008

Subtract the 1 additional year Mythic was given by delaying the game and you have an original design timeline of 2.5 years.  That is an unrealistic timeframe for a game of this size.

I have to agree with frostbite, that the game has the classic feelings of something that was rushed out.  Even after the delays.  All the mechanics were there, but nothing was really tested or refined.  The engine has big problems and the gameplay was sloppy.

Paul Barnett 'We won't release anything in warhammer until it is awesome', 'awesome this, awesome that', led zepplin of mmos.  He beat that drum pretty hard.

Some see those comments as lies, but I really think Paul/Mythic/EA really believed they had developed one of the most awesome games ever.  They just really really really did not understand how far short of awesome warhammer actually was.  The potential for awesome was there, but they just never really put the game to the test to see how badly they missed.

I'm sure the first few months of release was an eye opening experience for them.

I would have rather they pushed the release date back until December that year just to polish the game more.
