Logged on today to play a bit and found we have some new interesting folks playing. Some low life was running around called Pedophile. Then to top things off I hit the bank and Molestor was there.

This kind off crap would not fly in any mainstream game yet here its kind of the norm. Whats going to happen when some underage kid playing this game is exposed to this and parents find out. Can you say LAW SUIT, BAD PUBLICITY etc...

Spammers, bots, farmers and now low life scum... NCsoft... ITS time to monitor your servers.

Well the game is rated T for Teen.  It is up the parent to decide what may or may not be appropriate for their child.  I love it how some parents point to video games as a scape goat for bad behavior when they are the ones that bought the game in the first place.  And not just video games.  If a fight breaks out in school, they point to the school.  Teach them right and hope for the best.  You cannot put all the blame on any one thing.

If you're so easily offended, maybe you ought to not play mmo's.  General chat can bring out the stupidity in people.

Well aren't you the judgemental type. And I don't know if you realise this, but it's just a name. The words Pedophile and Molestor exist in this language(now this may be an unfortunate thing in your opinion but we needed a way to identify them with language) and no matter what any parent does children are going to learn the meanings of these words. Will this knowledge somehow hurt them or maybe even convert them to their sinister ways? I don't think so and even suggesting it would just seems silly to me. It's not like these character's names are just pictures of child porn.

So please pull the stick out of your ass. If you really need to complain about something there are far more serious threats to children's minds then words. Like Disney, Religion, and people like you.

It stops when folks like you stop being so sensitive and choosing to be moral crusaders.  This is often backlash against self appointed moral "police" such as yourself.  

The reason folks make names like the ones you whine about is they think it is funny and they hope to make folks like you mad. From your post, it seems the trolls have won. If they were ignored they would go away.

When I see a toon named as you metioned, I simply write the controling player off as an asshat and I move on. I make no fanfare over it, and if the name is particularly foul and violates the ToS, I report it.  You will notice that 99.99% of the time, these toons vanish, either via banning or by the fact the player gets tired of it.

WoW, Lotro and the like HAVE had names like this in them.  In fact, I have seen far worse in many games.  This is not just limited to Aion, but is more a societal problem... or have you not seen the names that grace Facebook, Twitter or any forum account?

The poster you accused of being insensitive is right, if your children are not equipped to deal with such language, then they should probably not play a game open to the worldwide public.  It also shows that you have failed as a parent, and now want someone else to parent for you.

You may not think this, but you are being just as insensitive to views that are not inline with how you want the world to be.

You must remember that no one can make you offended.  You chose to take offense.

And I have chosen to take offense that you are trying to foist your holier than thou views on others in order for you to feel superior.

Children arent going to be offended by this. Only adults will be. Any children seeing those names will just laugh at it and see it as a joke. Only overly sensitive and paranoid adults will get upset by this. Children see "a silly name" and forget about it. Adults see "an evil corrupting influence" and then focus all of their attention on it, ultimately giving it all the publicity it shouldnt be getting which could lead to it becoming an........evil corrupting influence. The more fuss you make over it, the more power you give it. Just report it, forget about it and carry on playing the game.

Oh and Lilsteez is correct. Religion causes a lot more damage and corruption to the minds of children than any offensive name can ever hope to achieve.

But all these games are about killing some poor creatures, or even people, and robbing them of their loot and even their body parts. And you are worried about how a toon is named?

Frankly, I think naming a toon "Pedophile" is pretty stupid, but there are far worse things in this world to be worried about.

Well yes I am supporting whatever is going through these idiots minds, since in all likelyhood they are just idiots trying to get a rise out of you and laughter from others. In no way does the fact that they name they're characters in this way suggest to me that they support the actions that created these words.

And sure, ofcourse it's easy to make a more "sensible/normal" name. But what I find EVEN easier then that is just not caring about what they are naming there characters in the first place. Everyone wins with tolerence.

Even though I enjoy coming up with my own names for my characters (when they are available to me), I think MMOs would be much better off with lists of acceptable names from which players choose for their characters. The pros greatly outweigh the cons, IMO.

It's not just offensive names, but also incredibly lame names - xxsephiroth099 and a thousand variations on Legolas. They really do spoil the gaming experience to a degree.

....and what is going through the head of the person who created the character? Probably something along the lines of "Ha! This will cause some stuck up person who is overly sensitive to get upset. I will get a response out of them and have an effect on their lives because they will take this really seriously. Who knows maybe they will take it so seriously that they will start complaining about it on a forum. Then that will mean I have had an even bigger impact on more people lives. Hurray! Lol.... I would hate to be the guy who would have to make up all the names for a MMO.

I mean...making up names for WoW's 11.5 million customers would be quite a challenge.
