In a year that promised to deliver probably the two biggest titles in MMO history, its amusing yet tragic that the same two titles are only separated by 8 hours and rank 57th and 58th on the charts. All the hype about masses of people playing both games and hitting 500k-1mil subs is just a fantasy. I feel frustrated that neither one grabbed hold and took off but in a way I am quietly satisfied as this may show big firms that making an MMO that follow a simple formula, albeit with some interesting tweaks, won't cut it and firms need to really develop innovative gameplay. The numbers below are just tragic.... And for the record, yes I played both and even enjoyed AoC to a certain degree. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning |

I think both games had quite neat ideas. While both was kinda flawed at launch, I think they got to much flak for it. So now we got games like Aion instead, with much polish, but very few new features... Somehow I hope games like darkfall and Fallen Earth becomes popular, at least they are trying something different. But I still enjoy my daily dose of AoC. -- |

I imagine there is a dip on population on those games due to Aion being just released. It will be interesting if it jumps back up after the initial month of Aion. |

I think it's a bit tragic. I mean, the companies are capable to create great games, and a lot of designers, sound & graphics artists, programmers and so on for sure worked very hard on those projects. I mean people are playing them, but still... On the other hand... at least the AOC guys knew that they kinda screwed up, when they write "with DX10" on the boxes and deliver that a year later. But it's not as bad as Hellgate London... I mean that game was about unplayable and had horrible decisions in matters of it's design. So I wonder what went through the minds of those who released it in its state. But WAR and AOC? They seemed playable to me when they were launched. Well, at least on my system they were playable and rather stable. They just were not the right games for me. Let's play Fallen Earth (from launch to present) |

It has been often argued that xfire, while useful in providing a glimpse at trends, is in no way an acurate way to measure level of activity or subscriptions on a game. Having said that, it does seem kinda sad but both games seem to be heading deeper into decline... Just to make things clear... |

x fire also has wonderful undocumented features as well. say your playing aoc an want to take a screen shot for xfire . not only does it take a great screen shot but it causes client to crash. if your runing dx10 some times aoc an x fire dont get along .an the best part it does not keep track of time on aoc corectly. it will not even see older games .everquest or city of heroes it didnt detect so had to log in after the game was started for it to keep time.x fire also won the unistall of the month .sorry to those x fire fan boy trolls who use every number flux as a spaz of troll like glee but its not even close to a realistic sample of players . To an extent I agree but its a sampling just like any political poll and some trends can be seen in it. Lots of people use it. I do not but many do therefore its a indicator and nothing more. |

Look at random MMO's like Ryzom or Vanguard, check their estimated subscription figures, then check their places on the Xfire list. In the large majority of cases, subscription figures are reflected by Xfire rank.
So whether you like it or not, Xfire stats do mean SOMETHING. They, at the very least, mean that among Xfire users, these two games aren't as played as they once were. That disproves your first three sentences. However, I, for one, believe they are a far greater indication.  |

Xfire stats are only relevant to Xfire and the people that use it. You can say certain games are more popular on Xfire than other games that people play on Xfire, that's about it. |

I don't want this to get out of hand but to say Xfire doesn't mean anything is a little naive. So when AoC and WAR sat over 40k and then stabilised at 20k for a while, this didn't mean anything? Its a poll like any other poll and 'suggests' a trend even though you can not truly know the exact figure. As a comparison the top 4 ranking MMO's today are listed below. Aion is obviously up there due to new release. Are we going to argue that WoW isnt 100 times busier than AoC or WAR? Or that EVE Online has having approximately 4x more hours played? This is not a flame thread and I have already stated that I played both games and enjoyed AoC enough, still think WAR stinks but that is just me. But to dispute an obvious poll is living in denial. Lets not forget AoC did promote Xfire and funny enough that is why I joined it in the first place. World of Warcraft |

That dont' even look bad. Think of it another way, how many mmorpg are on top of aoc and warhammer. And how many subscription base mmorpg are on top of aoc and warhammer. It's the industry itself which is sad. |
