Smedley has not had an original idea since he worked on EQ. SOE is struggling mightily these days, it will be a wonder if they get this out in time to avoid him getting the axe. |

Why should people be excited? Is it possible that soe could recreate the magic of the original planetside? Maybe. Are any of the creative developers from that era of soe still around? Not really. Did soe do a good job managing this game? No. Did soe ruin and then neglect this game for years? Yes. Do they ignore hacks and game stopping bugs? Yes. Will this game be riddled with overboard RMT, loot cards, cash shops and other annoying features? Based on the current operations of the company you bet you ass it will. I doubt this will even be a PC game considering the new direction soe is under and their lack of performance in the pc market. Honestly soe has not done a good job with this game and the slight chance they might do something right is supposed to get people excited? I can guarantee you if subs don't meet soes expectations this rebirth will snuggle right up with the rest of the life support mmos soe neglects and mismanages.
Maybe when soe turns a new leaf over there will be something short of blind faith to get excited about. |

Your apparent 3rd grader mentality reminds me why I left WoW. Why don't you try to grow up and discuss topics instead of YOU BASHING people and ridiculing? |

What an odd set of replies.
I like the overall idea of PlanetSide but tbh, it's a bit long in the tooth for me to pick up now as a game. So, a new updated version sounds great!
Could it be a load of crap: YES. Is it going to hurt me to wait and see: NO.
No point slagging things off before they're even underway or released, or no-one will ever bother putting an MMO out again. Everyone hates at least one thing - be it a dev, company, game - with a passion, but it doesn't cost you to button your trap and see what their next offering will actually be like before condemning them based purely on speculation.

Put it this way, there is a thread in the EQ2 forums about a rumored new EQ in development. Even long term EQ2 fans are wishing another developer gets the IP. That says something when people would rather have another company develop the title that launched your company. |

Planetside was fun, but some of the design decisions made it stupid. Guns that can't the broadside of a barn, sniper rifles that can't kill even with a headshot, tanks whose most powerful weapon is the bumper, machine guns that require an entire clip to kill one person, bases with too many entrances, quick and easy respawn, and a host of other just plain stupid design logic problems make the game seem more like a giant capture the flag exercise than a game of futuristic combat. |

I gave up PS after never seeing a battle more spread out than a melee fest because the weapons were so inaccurate everyone ran in front of ya so close to the enemy to with the inaccuarte weapons they caused negative damage not being able to avoid hitting own team. A true FPS shot where you pointed. I remember sitting perfectly still firin the rocket launcher and watching ammo veer off most the time. Yea there was a cone of fire but it rarely worked. Sniper rifle headshot never produced realistic damage. The game has vast amounts of empty space perfect for a tacticle battle but never used. Did any of that change? Did the weapons ever fire as accurate and doing same damage as other FPS games? My fault I over hyped the game for the 3 plus years I followed before it came out. Remember originally it was going to be in an escape from NY setting? That changed completely and the weapons were the real dissapointement. I hung out long enough to max a couple characters and add the expansion but too frustrating. Battlefield series, Rogue Spear games and swat blew it away. Even Face of Mankind weapons were better. This post is intentionally written not to make any sense what so ever. Thank You Very Much. |

Smed claims to love the game and they say they want to make the game based off our feedback... But I can't help but say BS! Who were they listening to when they added br 26 - br40 with certs in our current planetside? Why would the br40 reward allow you to be certed with EVERYTHING? Who were they listening to when they added black ops or the wasp? Our past developers understood things, especially when certifications came into place. But someone somewhere clearly isn't looking at the big picture with some of the decisions that have been made. Since Alex Von Miden left the planetside, quality has gotten pretty bad...

PS was my first graphical MMO. When it came out, the weapons and vehicles were as good as most other FPS, except for when lag made you miss. As time went on and other games saw pysics updates, Planetside did not. After flyign a Cobra in BF2, i resubbed to PS and played. WOW did it feel clunky after BF2.
I didn't like the uselessness of the bases. It felt kind of like playing house. You have a base with all sorts of rooms...but none of them DO anything except the recert room, and the bio implants. The tactical rooms...had fake holo wars instead of the battle going on outside. There was no COMMAND room. Having Leadership skills meant little more than a few small tools. Could you go into a base's command center and reroute energy to repairing turrets? Turn of the vehicle bay so that the shields didn't go down? Newp. Anyway. It was still fun. With updated physics, i'd play the original game again. But if they're doing a whole new game, give us more than that.
Sure I hate SOE for their heartless treatment. It seems that all they had were bean counters and number crunchers. Decisions based on what the numbers told them, rather than listening to their fans. Currently not playing any MMOrpg -- |

I had a great computer when PS came out and so, the game ran perfectly on my kit. I had a blast playing through the Beta and did stick around for a few months. The game itself was great but the lack of updates made it stale. You get tired of capturing the same 3 bases in a week. Planetside 2 will need a major kick in the butt for it to succeed.
hating SOE is just a cool kid's trend, nothing more.

Originally posted by Ponico All games need updates to keep the game play interesting especially mmos. The most populat single player fps games with mp modes add new maps all the time to keep the fans happy, and to gain a bit of money of the play station network, and xbox live. If those that play fps games are going to be even more demanding I think because of they are used to games that play well, and not paying a monthly fee. So they will all be expecting a lot more for one that requires more for the cost of admission. If they expect people to just play a fps game because it is mmo they have got another thing coming. With everything that has happened since the first game fps multiplayer is a lot bigger now than several years ago. |
