I would love a game where the focus is on the leveling up part instead of endgame. But Aion really dosnt seems like suchs for me; that is, unless the endgame is even more repeatedly and boring then the grind.

A game where the focus is on the RPG part need to offer RPG. It needs to offer decent fun combat, quest variety, good instances, decent rewards and upgrades as you travel along. Im all for suchs a game, but honestly, and i hate to say it, but i really think that both WAR, AOC and WoW have better leveling up game then Aion.

Thats the problem. Most gamers are so used to being held by the hand in MMOs that Aions leveling system turns them off. If your looking for a mmo where you can level to max in 2 months with your eyes closed go play WoW...or LOTRO even.

I personally love the Aion leveling progression. Makes hitting max level that much more enjoyable. Heres as idea!! Try taking your time in Aion through questing, crafting and helping guildmates for xp rather then rushing to max level. Nah...that would be insane.... MMOs are serious stuff!! Theres no point in taking your time and enjoying them!! Thats just crazy!! LOL

You dont understand me. I dont mind a game with focus on leveling up; in fact, i would love a sandbox game without a level cap. But - leveling in Aion is...not..fun!! If it was fun it could last forever for all i care!

Yes the punch drunk convos in legion chat while Aether grinding are another form of fun. If people want to solo to 50 and "b3 ubar" without being social this isn't the game for you. Even if you power-level to 50 if you haven't gathered Aether and other things you are basically missing out on the whole crafting scheme and gathering quest chains. If you're like me you'll try all the things available and explore the game. There's a lot more to do than hiting max level in this game which is why I think it will last. I doubt it will have many more subs than it has now though.

It's pretty pointless to ask this on this forum. I mean, is there actually anything average poster on this forum doesn't hate?

Yes, the only thing they don't hate is the game they believe is the "best game evah", to which they've bound their soul for all eternity.  Usually, it's their first MMO "love".

More on topic, I'm enjoying Aion a lot.  It's pretty much what I've expected it to be, and has been an enjoyable experience so far.

No if they just are gonna bore ppl to death with endless monotone grind.

Aion has a Korean developer, that will probably mean that updates will cater for the Korean market first and foremost.

Worst site to make such polls so many haters and trolls here that will vote for no obviously.

Yup! I don't take anything serious on this website, its a mad house 24/7. Makes me wonder what MMOs all these fools are playing so I can avoid them...lol

I dunno, the poll seems to be neck and neck, where are all the haters and trolls you guys are talking about?

You think those that didn't even play it will post why they picked "No" in the poll? that's what I mean.

While I dislike Aion in many ways and canceled my account a day or two ago (from pre-release), there is an interesting phenomenon on these boards immediately after release where everyone tries and bitches about a game.  I would think that the poll would work better in a couple weeks when the people like me have stopped coming into the Aion section of the forum.

For the record, I chose 'no', not because I "hate" Aion, but because I think that many other posters in here are correct:  There are plenty of other games which can fit the niche of Aion, some of which are even free.

Probably not because this game is pretty easy to hate.  There is nothing new or innovative to this game. Everything has been done before.  The major downfall of this game IMO is the grind (of course).  I rather do quests than camp one area for five hours pressing the same buttons over and over again (sounds fun, huh?).  Also, I wasn't too fond of the group element.  To me it seemed rather shallow and empty.  The healers didn't have any distinguished healing skills and felt rather generic.  Same goes for the tanking in this game, it didn't seem fluent enough to distinguish a toon from being a real tank or a toon weilding a shield.  These are my two cents. Hate on me if you wish but this game is basically all hype, and the wow vs aion threads are ridicilous.

There have been very few mmorpgs that have been either new or innovative since the release of the early mmorpgs. All the complaints you have about the game are also present in just about every other mmorpg.

NEG.  AoC offers a new and innovative angel.  Fallen earth also offers a new angle  Champions online is pretty innovative via super hero genre. They all offer a much more solid group aspect to the game.

The only thing this game offers that others don't are scrolls of speed so you don't need a mount?  and timed wings that you can't use without jumping off a cliff.  oh yah, did I mention that the flying is timed?

I think the game will be a big hit for at least another month. However, when the majority of the population gets 30+ you are going to start seeing a hemorrhage of players.

1 - 30 has some grinding, but nothing obscene, 35+ the grind becomes slow and painful. Now... there are a lot of folks that enjoy that kind of thing and for those, the game will be right up their alley. But not everyone enjoys exponential exp growth with diminishing quest and mob exp.

35 + you are looking at 10+ hours of grinding per level, and it just gets worse by the time you pop 40.

There is a patch coming out that is going to increase some quest exp in an attempt to fix some of these issues, but the exp totals arent going to be big enough to make an effect folks will enjoy.

I always believed that Aion would garner about 300k to 500k subs. No more.

So I'll just wait to see how that pans out. Unless they make an announcement, I'll just have to wait until the next quarterly report.

^

This pretty much.

NCsoft said they want to be number two in NA/EU which is probably about 300k-500k.

LOL at one of Aion's biggest haters making an obvious troll bait poll... This whole site is pure garbage when it comes to dictating whether a game will be popular.

I think Aion will be a big game, the size of other big MMOGs (or similar) in the west; Guild Wars, EVE, LotRO. It  could possibly drop to the next layer, with AoC and WAR are, but I doubt it'll be lower than that in 6 months. I've been wrong before though. :-)

(WoW doesn't count as "big" - it's a behemoth.)

How much do u get paid to troll in here all the time , cause if u do it just for fun , u need professional help ASAP.

What an obvious troll poll.

And yes AION will do fine .

I keep wondering why the WoW forum section is moderated and trolling threads gets closed. Yet you see all sort of atrocities in the Aion section.

There needs to be some moderation in here.

Improve Aion's Graphics with a simple text file that you can create by yourself:

-Increase in-game Field of View to 175% or more

-Increase view distance for players to 100 meters with camera at max distance

-Lots of other settings

Learn how by reading this guide at Aionsource

From every crisis comes opportunity

Why is it that anyone can compare the size of any game to WOW when they are much younger than each other.

WoW has been around for years therefore it has more content, that factor is obvious. When WoW first opened it was a massive grind, far worse than any other game. I recall having to repeat certain areas 10s if not 100s of times to be able to obtain those pieces of armour.  When I left the game after 2 years I still didn't have 1 full set with 2 level 60 toons.

All of the quests in WOW are grinds, none are repeatable therefore a good portion of XP was  to run around and kill things over and over and over and over again.  The game mesmerised people into thinking they were on a course to profit and greatness. With those obscene armour sets and glamourous weapons they make you feel intense guilt for thinking you want to leave; after you put so many months into the obtaining of them.

Every process in that game is a psychological trap designed to keep every player going back for more and more torture. If you stop and look without those WOW coloured glasses maybe you'll see what they have done to you.

Now these new games are only months or a year or so old.  How on earth can you compare WOW to Aion when one game is 5 years and the other is 20 or so days old? Yes Aion has teething problems. When WoW first started they didn't fix many things for months if not over a year or two. That game had so many faults it was tiresome.

Even after years there were hours long waits on most servers. Blizzard always took forever to fix things. When they did you had a down time for hours and a massive download afterwards. The classes were so out of whack, there were no quests and the whole game was forever being updated for raiders.

Now let's wait a year or so and see what NC Soft can do to fix their problems.  I can see they are putting in a huge effort in the first month, fixing problems WOW had for years.

I bought and played this game, at first it was fun a there was a lot of stuff to do to keep you busy. But once you hit 28 you hit the quest wall/install wall. All that is really left is to grind and grind and grind. I don't mind some grind, just that with this game you either grind in abyss or grind in heavily BOTTED area.

To be honest, in my mind this game is worse for content then AOC was once you hit the level 50 area. At least in AOC the grind wasn't as bad as this game.

As for fotress and crap really, you've done a couple raid on it and really you are. WTH is that it? Luckily for me i got a couple non MMO game to keep me busy right now so i don't feel the grind in this game too bad.

So in short, this game was fun at start then when you get to mid game it's pretty much blah.
