A good portion of Wow's client base (and a large contingent of MMO'ers) seems to be edging towards a cliff. Nothing is final yet or even likely as far as Wow is concerned but... "China has banned foreign investment in its online gaming industry in a tightening of its censorship regime and an effort to protect local gaming companies. Foreigners would be banned from operating online gaming within China through wholly foreign-owned investments, joint ventures or any other forms of co-operation with local companies, the country’s publishing regulator said." .... "However, many of them (Chinese game companies) still make a large part of their revenues from foreign-developed games, for which they have to pay royalties. World of Warcraft is China’s most popular game on the web." "GAPP said updates and new versions of already-approved games would need additional approval. It also said games that were already on the market in China would need new approval if they changed distributors.

What i wonder is why western countries dont impose similar measures on chinese operators as a matter of reciprocity? That could actually have more of an impact in gold trading... Just to make things clear... |

Originally posted by Sarbocabras A good portion of them are Chinese, this is a great thing I don't see how. The obvious fact is that the farmers aren't playing on chinese servers; they're playing on western servers via western clients. Probably via corporate intarwebz connections owned by "commercial" gold seller sites. How will China scrapping the chinese servers alleviate the problem? If anything, you might see more chinese players on western servers for the simple reason that .. it's the only place they can play. |

They would flood the Taiwanese servers first and foremost. The real players and the gold farmers. |

Chinese people have known the terms "Aggro", and "Train INC!", and "Tank", and "Raid" long before we started to use them in game... Though I can admit that most "farmers" I ran into on WoW were in fact Chinese. They would out of the blue, open trade windows with my Mage and say things like "food". I woud then demand "Money pls". If denied then I tried many insults that involved "sex with their mothers" and the ones that got immediate responses were insults in given in Mandarin. Many times I would just give them first level summoned food and make it seem like I was summoning high tier stuff. While I don't know what effect this whole ordeal will have on the in-game economies, I can bank on the farmers, Chinese or otherwise, coming up with work-around solutions... Eventually, the entire thing collapsed on them. China, on the other hand, is not even bragging about Communism anymore, they run SURPLUSES every year, they are world's number one creditor, and own over trillion dollars worth of treasuries. Theya ren't involved in wars anywhere in the world but within insurrections in their own country. China is hardly anything like the Soviet Union.. matter-of-fact.. I'd say America has many of the same problems that the Soviet Union did... |

China has been trying to censor and control a lot more things lately, in the end it will bite them in the ass, always does. "The great thing about human language is that it prevents us from sticking to the matter at hand." |

XD Funny stuff 1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose. |
