Maybe it's just me, but I only get a "server not found" when going to stargateworlds.com... CME & Firesky sites are still accessable though.... Anyone else not getting through to SGW official site? |

Nope, can't get here either. The domain name is registered/owned by MGM, and oddly the registered IP for the site (69.16.140.23) brings you to the Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment website now, not the SGW site... derive from that what you will. ------------------------- |

Interesting..... The WHOIS shows that MGM owns the domain, and the nameserver is ns1 & ns2.taetechnologies.com... taetechnologies.com takes you to an active webpage, so it doesn't seem to be a down server issue (unless it's a down sub-server on taetech's network that happens to host SGW).... Guess we'll just have to wait and see how long this version of "media blackout" lasts...
EDIT: wasn't trying to copy Darkholmes' post... just a slower typer :) |

They are having DNS issues. From the IRC in #stargate-worlds topic: How to access SGW forum: start - run - type in: %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\ - ok - open up hosts file in notepad, add in: 69.16.140.10 forums.stargateworlds.com - save the file - refresh sgw forums
The websites are still there, but name resolution is currently down. |

Tkksnow said yesterday that the server would be down for a non specific amount of time for maintenance. Also the SGW website has being under MGM for over a year now. |

There was indeed an announcement on the forums stating there would be maintenance on the site resulting in unknown duration of downtimes. |

Thx for the info about their server problems. Initally had that "i've got some bad news timmy, old rex had to be put down" feeling when the website wouldn't load. I always check the site half wondering if it will still be there. |

Mate it went down over the weekend so none would be working in CME. Also follow what bc said on the first page to access the forums for now. |

It's a pretty bad sign from a technical perspective to have your DNS servers go dark. It's why they allow you to list more then one Name Server. Also good tech companies don't just serve DNS from a single server... they do it from a cluster sitting behind a load-balancer or director. That way you can take an individual server offline to do maintenance or whatever, without interrupting your services. Even if you need to take the director/load-balancer offline... you should always be able to NAT the ip address to something that can provide those DNS services for as long as it takes to do the work. DNS going dark is the kind of thing you expect out of something hosted out of some-ones garage...not a multi-million dollar project... it's kinda scary. |

so none subscribes to the belief of that shit happens at the worst time? Also CME is under manned with a dev team of under 30 people. |

Well, the nameservers aren't down, they just aren't serving the addresses: Header: This is what I get when I query ns1.taetechnologies.com. Either a) they are trying to wait for old records to die, b) they don't know what they are doing (but the nameservers aren't part of SGW's site anyways), or c) TAE took SGW's site down on purpose. Anyone have any other ideas? Since you can get to the forums by putting in a static hosts entry, I don't see how it could be maintenance on SGW's side. |

I don't think we should read too much into this website being down thing yet. Websites go down sometimes. It just happens. Hosting companies have problems. Sometimes its a random problem out of the blue, sometimes its something major. I had one hosting company that just dissapeared on me one day. Just shut down with no warning or explanation. The next hosting company I had after them was located in the area struck by hurricane Katrina and I couln't get their tech support to reply for three months. So yeah, sometimes things do just happen at the worst possible time and there isn't anything to be done about it. And if every time one of my websites went down for some reason or other there was a group of people screaming "OMG! RALTAR IS SOOOOO STUPID! LETS KILL HIM!" then I would probably have given up on the internet a long time ago. So lets just chill for a bit and see where this goes. If the site isn't back up in a couple more days then we may want to send someone to check out the CME offices to see if all the furniture has dissapeared or if any of the employees are in the process of fleeing the country. And THATS when we can call them stupid. Each man must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man. To decide against your conviction is to be an unqualified and inexcusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let men label you as they may. ~Mark Twain |
