I have read a lot of the threads pertaining to this game. I did my research and even got into the closed/open Betas. I enjoyed my time with the game...but i never made it past level 18. Game comes out and i get it....oh so hoping that the enjoyment factor persists. I reach the start of the "grind" and decide to keep at it so that i may see what awaits in the fabled Abyss. Well, what I soon realized was this game was almost strictly Group based if you are wanting to do anything in the Abyss. Sure there are some quests to be done that can be soloed. But those dry up quickly and all that remain are the Repeatables. So I'm left with a game that relies on: -A TON of group based content for both PvP and PvE. -A grind on mobs hoping for the materials to drop for the Crafting grind ( drop rates for certain things are horrible). -A grind on the Repeatable quests (Coin and other). After a while I start to get the feeling this game was made with PvE/questing/soloing as a last minute throw in with little effort given to quality and substance. This game really is no better than a (slighty) polished Free to Play game. It has almost all of the same game mechanics. -very little in the quest department (the questing that it does have turns out to be an extreme grind due to the horrendous drop rates and the Repeat this quest 100 to 150 times setup) -the crafting system and enchant/manastone mechanic function much like all the F2P games i have sampled ( everything has a chance to fail...thus waisting your materials/money and time!) -There are player Shops (just sitting in certain areas causing glorious lag and screen /NPC obstructions) -Very little variety in Gear ( you use dye to make your character look different from everyone else...take a look in the Auction house. There is at least 10 or more pages of the SAME exact gear! Everyone is wearing the same thing pertaining to their level) I have a ton of other issues with the game as it is. Combat/Stats just seem a little "off". It feels like I'm fighting an epic battle every time I engage an enemy...no matter what level the thing may be and how "uber" or pimped out my gear may be. This actually wouldn't be a bad thing if it wasn't for the fact that "most" of the time you are just grinding away trying to level. So it makes the grind feel that much more of a sting. Not a fan of the way they have incorporated the controls of many aspects of the game as well. The Camera system still feels a bit wonky. The flight mechanics, while usable, feel not at all precise...especially for an area of game mechanic(s) that is relied upon for the PvP portion of the game so Heavely. This game will appeal to people who live for PvP...but for how long who knows? This game WILL NOT appeal to the vast majority of PvErs out there. If you like to PvP...... give it a go. If you can manage to make it through the mundane 25 levels that are required to fully enjoy what PvP is in this world. If you are more into questing, crafting and raiding.....this game was in no way shape or form ever developed with you in mind.

Actually, at 18 it's very likely you'll only have group quests left if you refuse to group. Personally, I can't entertain an argument against a mmo that's based on a refusal to group though. Those would have to fall pretty low on the list of knocks against. |

I don't know, cause he does't say until what level he played. But he's clearly talking about the Abyss, and not about level 18 content. So he's not level 18 when he only sees group based content. Might have read a bit more carefully before you shot him down :p |

I am playing Elyos and didnt do my first group stuff until about 17 and had plenty of solo quests sitting around still. I had not done any mob grinding either. Just quests and crafting (negligable XP).

I must be whacked because i actually like as people call it "mob grinding".I mean what is the whole premise of playing a combat game?to run back and forth between npc's with meaningless quests or to fight?BTW the quest theme is something WOW copied and it seems or confuses me as to why so many want that completely boring system but i can see why now. MOST people just want that end game ,speed leveling effect,i can't help those ,i guess there will always be a place for WOW like structured games. It is VERY simple....if you call anything in the game a "GRIND" the game IS boring ,and you really should not be playing it.If "grinding" mobs is boring ,then the combat system is boring. You only have 3 choices in any game,PVP/PVE or craft. If 2/3 are boring, you call them a grind, get out of the game.If 1/3 is a grind, then hopefully the other 2 parts are fun, done well enough to keep your interest. If all 3 feel like a grind, then it's time to cancel that sub. http://www.youtube.com/user/Napolianboo#p/u/15/rCYLLQCNc1w |

There are certain lvls where it is MUCH easier to get group content rather than solo content in the game. It is possible to avoid the group content, but it may feel grindy in comparison because the group content is honestly easy enough that there is not a whole lot of risk or trouble involved in trying to experience it (at the earlier lvls). The first 3 major group content components for the game are insanely easy to get groups for (black claw quests, tc, ntc). 24 - 25 can seem a somewhat painful grind if it's your first time playing, as it's not immediately apparent where to find all your quests at. However, having tried to do so multiple times (asmodean) I can say that it gets much easier with each attempt. Also, after 25 (the abyss content) is most definitely soloable, and you can also run ntc instance (a very easy dungeon to get groups for) which usually only takes about an hour, and gives you roughly 2million exp or so each time. This means that in about a week of doing nothing but ntc (you can only run it once a day) you can get from 25-29 on that instance alone. I know at times it doesn't seem like it, but leveling in this game is insanely easy (though not quite as easy as the current WoW). If you are seriously stumped, try going online and lookin at what others are doing to help you. As for group-based pvp, this isn't necessarily true, but it's fairly common knowledge that if you are going solo into a combat zone you are at much greater risk (though will get much better rewards for killing enemies) of death. If all you want is solo pvp, there is also a duel feature in the game. Just use your head a little, and you can solo much of this game without too much hastle. Also, don't be afraid to juggle between the abyss and the non pvp zones. The rift pvp tends to be a bit more solo friendly, and there are tons of quests there if the abyss is too hot to handle at the moment. I've definitely had times where I'm constantly being attacked by elyos and needed to go elsewhere to quest, and that's exactly what i did. So far the only group I've joined for pvp was the assault a fortress / artifact (which shouldn't be soloable), everything else I've done solo / piggy backed off other groups for. I will say that I am a ranged dps class, so if you are melee or a healer that may be part of your soloing problem (chanter?). They can solo pve really well (and they are good in pvp) but tend to be much easier to gank. |

Sorry bud, but your way off imo. If you only played to 18 you have very little knowledge of Aion so many of your points are totally wrong. Anyways, hope you find what your after! If your as picky as you were with Aion I'm sure you'll be looking until you retire of mmos....lol "Mom, I play Tera for the gameplay I swear!!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-2paFdRw_U |

you really hit the nail on the head with addressing how so many people with their own personal "agendas" come here and flat out LIE about the game. I simply do not have the time to go and spend refuting all the crap they say. The bottom line is, ALOT and I mean ALOT of the negative posts here of people trashing the game expose the poster as a fraud who has no idea about the game and they criticize it like they are actual players or former players. Which they clearly are NOT. Again, for those of us who play the game you simply make yourselves look like desperate little fools, trying in vain to steer people away from AION (or any other game you feel threatens your own personal MMO.) they are sad, silly little creatures. I know most people are smart enough to make up their own minds on their gaming choices and so far AIONs numbers do all the talking for the game. |

I totally aggree with the OP, AION for it's hype is an awful game. The quests aren't even imaginative, and any game that borders on repeat this quest 100 times to level, needs a serious grilling. The OP got the graphics aspect just right, the colours and movement seem slightly off in colour and perspective, as well as flight being unrealistic, the backdrops look like static wall paper, it was the only mmo that made me feel sick after I played it for a few hours. It's mechanics are very similar to many F2P games. I have more fun playing Dark age of Camelot and that is nearly 10 years old. |

And if you want to argue you did, lets talk about some of the quests you did. What were they and what did you find unimaginative ? "It's mechanics are very similar to many F2P games." If AION is simalar to ANYTHING, its mechanics are very similar to a P2P game called wow. Again dude, its clear you never played AION. |
