Wrong. Who elected Bush? The people, thus they hate the people who elected Bush. They thought Americans were foolish and stupid. When we elected Obama the world community saw some light in the American spirit. That's what I was driving at. The ability to make such a dramatic change and push the boundaries was always American. So when they saw us elect a black man they thought of how great a people we are. See the correlation? Ok, let me re-phrase peace and coalescence between the world community, aka, powerful nations. There will always be wars. I doubt that is one thing that will ever change about humanity.
Also Stillkillin, dude, you need to relax. America is far, far from weak. If we were weak why do you think they would be talking BEHIND our backs to try and weaken the dollar? Even then the weakened dollar will bring jobs back home. There is strength in weakness and many nations have a hubris just as big as yours. So don't try and pull that, watch out we are weak bullshit. I can almost garuntee you've never been outside of the States and don't know anything but hearsay. I've been in Tokyo for a few months now and I can tell you, no one here hates us nor thinks we are weak. Instead they like us very much. So honestly, shut the fuck up until you actually have knowledge because all you are doing right now is regurgitating talking points from Fox News and the NY Post. |

Nice retort! You showed me! Way to show any reason as to why we are weaker nor attack my arguments that you don't know anything or have ever been outside of the States. You have a small-minded perspective. You should learn more about the world, cultures, and different ideologies before coming here. You're sorely lacking in any debate skills or any knowledge. You're just reiterating what's been taught to you. Too bad, because what's been taught to you is very biased and one sided. There are two sides to a coin, always. 2010 most republicans will be losing their seats again. 2012. I can't begin to predict, there's so much time in between then and now. |

That was a terrible retort. Really. Also, how old are you? You seem so easily influenced. Nothing to help freedom? I don't understand that part at all. We are sitting down with people who want nothing to do than harm America? I think you're referring to Iran. Well, interestingly enough. The first part to any meaningful dialogue isn't sanctions and tough actions. It's talking. Plain and simple. Also, if you noticed the Iranian elections recently. Not many people actually support their government. The US taking action would cause the Iranian State to unite, right they are not unified. They have a lot less power than you presume. Actually a large portion wants healthcare reform. Shown it won't work? Where? Because I'm in Tokyo right now and they have public health and guess what...it's amazing! I get really cheap drugs and don't have to pay over $30 for three months of health care. Crazy eh. You're right though, it doesn't work anywhere. Also, the GOP is just bitching about healthcare, they haven't done anything meaningful to try and help reform. That's worse than anything on the table right now. Last time you checked the world hates America? You have an odd world view. Actually most people like Americans. You need to get outside more. You're reading too many online forums. You seem to think these forums are indicative of the public discourse. Wrong, actually it would be the other way around. But it seems you base your views on the minority view of this forum rather than the larger discourse of the country. You're not helping America. You're hurting it by spreading your hate and lies. Here's the deal. I'm no means an Obama supporter but I understand he's trying to reform healthcare because there is a serious problem with it right now. Many people cannot afford it because the premiums are so expensive or the insurance companies take them off the policy for whatever reason including a misspelled word. At least Obama is trying to do something. The GOP isn't doing anything. They are just criticizing and attacking. You want to help America? Get your leaders to try and work with the D's rather than just attack them. I give credit to Obama from the beginning to try and reach out to the other side of the isles. It's a shame that the GOP were too stubborn and arrogant to take his invitation to work together on getting America back on track. I guess Obama learned his lesson that they want nothing to do with working on the problems. Rather, they are creating more. |

You brought up the Japanese health care system here, and did so a few times before. I showed you, and shared an article discussing, how the system is not sustainable and you gave no answer. Have you figured one out yet? Obama and the congress are copying other unsustainable models and have yet to prove how THEIR ideas will be sustainable. Why should we swotch the unsustainable semi-socialist system we have now for aa less sustainable more socialist model? That's nuts. |

If it helps those who might be upset, if the Nobel Peace prize came from Africa Bush and Clinton both would of been given one, Africa loves both of them. Gore and Carter not so much. |

Politics scares me, it really does. It is good to be united by hope, but right now, it feels like to unify means to disregard our instincts to challenge and question and blindly watch as events unfold. But, to challenge and question further divides our country and leaves us in stagnant waters. Well, forget this unification crap then. And forget this challenging and questioning, too. Sit on the fence, learn from both sides, come up with a conclusion. I'm tired of the news being nothing more than "look what we found out about our rivals" rather than "this is what is happening, let us think about ways to help." The fact that Obama got awarded the Nobel Peace Prize is going to dominate the news, which will further repel more important news. Why are we getting so distracted? =) |

If Obama is caught brushing his teeth back and forth rather than up and down, there are those who cry "the united states is weaker because of the Obama's dental hygiene and we aren't the best any more we're all doomed...doomed...doomed". (You know who you are.... the lack of punctuation should be a hint) Those sort of childish rants either make me laugh out loud or cringe in embarrassment. But I suppose every country has those who are....ummm....challenged in every way. As for this whole Nobel Prize thing, after much thought on the subject I have to say that the Nobel Committee dropped the ball on this award. There are so many other people and organizations out there that are much more deserving of the Peace Prize than Obama is. Hell! Even he was surprised by it! I think that if he manages to end the two wars that were handed to him with some sort of positive outcome or was able to advert further proliferation of nuclear weapons, then he would be a better candidate for the award. But now? No way.

My my, the classic leftist tactic of making the libertarians and conservatives constantly repost the same articles, studies, graphs and figures until we get tired of it. Damn you guys just suck. If I can find it later I will. I am getting sick of posting the same shit over and over and over and over and over and over and over again and then you guys ignoring it, and then when I bring it up later you want to see it again. then you ignore it and so it goes. declaredemer and popinjay pulled the same garbage regularly. It's crap. If I have the time I will find it again. However, you were in the thread, you posted in other threads on the same day as well as that thread again, and I waited while you supposedly "lost track." Actually, Japan has a more homogeneous society so they should be able to sustain socialism better. They have less problems with drugs, are more nationalistic, and everything is in THEIR favor, not ours. Theirs is still as unsustainable as is all of European socialism. Socialism is simply not sustainable, and no one has ever been able to prove that it is. Every time it is proven, some socialist comes along and says THIS TIME it will work HERE because of X. Sorry banging your head against a wall will not cure a headache that was brought on by hitting it with a rock. Again, I'm sorry if you are being honest and not a typical lying lefty like we have had on these forums but I find what you say hard to believe because you are doing what every single one of your philosophical allies does on this forum on a regular basis, until they vanish and stop posting after being caught many times. Again if I have time I will show you some grace, even though I can't give you the benefit of the doubt. I'll look for it later.
EDIT: here you go: www.tokyofoundation.org/en/articles/2009/addressing-the-problems-in-the-japanese-healthcare-system
This was brought up in this thread: www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/253798/page/8
Your non-response was that the Japanese need to make more babies, or to stop being afraid of the flu. Similar things are occurring in ALL the semi-socialist health care systems no matter which one you look at. All have costs increasing more than growth in GDP; therefore, all will eventually bankrupt the nation. Telling people to make more babies or not be afraid of the flu is not an answer to the basic problem inherent in all command economic systems -- without a market, without a real price mechanism, ALL will eventually fall prey to maing bad economic calculations and all will eventually collapse due to accelerating costs. I see no logic in shifting from our unsustainable semi-socialist system to another unsustainable semi-socialist system, or any combination of unsustainable semi-socialist systems. |

Oh, and the Japanese economy is now doing better because they moved away from the socialism (in other areas) we are embracing. They already had the "lost decade" Obama is pushing us into. He is pretty much copying what japan did in the 90s which pretty much gave them a ten year recession/borderline depression that they just came out of this past decade. America hasn't been a capitalist society any more than Europe is for a very long time, and all are in decline due to it. They instutute more markets, they get a bump, they move more socialist, they get a recession, just like us. Everyone has created a similar economic mess in their own societies. In many ways Europe, specifically the Union, is more capitalistic than America now, and it's helping them. Heck in some ways China is more capitalist than us now. We are red, they are red, it's wrecking all our economies and driving the industrialized world into bankruptcy. This worldwide recession is probably just the first big boom-bust in a series of much bigger boom-busts we will have in the future, if current world policies continue. |

I think this would make Obama the first head of a war conducting government to receive the Nobel Peace Prize? How ridiculous. Luckily, I haven't really taken the prize seriously since a few other people have won it, but seriously? Does the false Obama hype really run that deep, even in foreign countries? Any American can speak up right now and say that absolutely nothing has been done on the domestic front. What about the foreign affairs front? He's running a conflict in Afghanistan that purportedly killed thousands of civilians - not to mention hundreds of American lives. The closing of Guantanamo Bay, a major issue in his campaign and a major issue abroad, has basically been abandoned. What has he really done? Nothing to deserve this, I'd say. ![]() |

I have no problem with the concept of someone like Obama being elected President. What I do have a problem with is anybody (much less someone with Obama's tragically breif resume) presuming to know better than you or I how the world works, what is good for us, and to have all the answers. Grandiose social and economic ideas are great. Proof of concept is better. The city and state that Obama respresented as a Senator is no utopia...it is the gold standard for corruption and the murder capital of America. Yet in barges Obama with his titanic ego and demands the country bow to his whim in enacting "change". His Presidency has jumped the shark. The media won't be able to maintain his "50% approval rating" with any credibility for much longer. I fully expect the voters to take away his majority in Congress in 2010, and then put an end to this sorry mistake of an Administration in 2012. |
