Nope, not a joke.
President Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize OSLO (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for his calls to reduce the world's stockpile of nuclear weapons and working for world peace. The prize worth 10 million Swedish crowns ($1.4 million) will be handed over in Oslo on December 10. (Reporting by Oslo newsroom) "If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike" |

They might just be giving away Nobel Peace prizes for the wrong reason in rescent years. You are suppose to get it when you do something, not when you say you will do something. Its not just Obama, there have been many instances in the last decade of people getting the prize that don't deserve it and people not getting the prize who should have earned it. When he actually decreases the world's nuclear stock pile then yea. When he actually makes peace in the middle-east then yea. However, not when you say you are going to do it but haven't yet. Hey everyone, I am going to cure aids. Where is my Nobel Peace Prize? |

Its a mixture of things add immaturity to the mix and id say we are pretty close. Another great example of Moore's Law. I thought this was from the Onion at first. Had to be a joke. Guess not.. After Gore and now this;) This prize is officially a joke. Gore's should've been stripped away by now considering what a hypocrite he is. The guy alone does more damage to environment than some small towns. |

I lost respect for the award when the head of a terrorist organization, Yasser Arafat, won it. "If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike" |

The man has changed the world's image of the U.S. The night he was elected there were celebrations worldwide. When has that happened before? If that doesn't promote peace I don't know what does.
No American conservative has ever won the prize, but I'm sure they'll just blame that on the liberal bias as usual. They don't understand that the vast majority of 1st world countries are liberal if using the American definition of liberalism. *Edit* Actually I think Henry Kissinger won it. However it caused a few of the board members to resign because they didn't want to be associated with that.
Maybe they'll invent a nobel war prize so they can get in on the action. |

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed. |

It's given out for peace. The way the nobel board sees it and a lot of other around the world see it, Obama is a peace bringer. Instead of just immediately threatening violence, he has said and has opened up talks. Remember when all the conservatives were complaining that he was talking to "Terrorists"? That's what peace is.
If there was an American Peace Prize I don't think he should get it, as technically he has divided the country more. Tea Parties etc. But worldwide, I definately think people view the U.S. in a better light and since we kinda have a major hand in everything going on in the world, that equates a more peaceful world.
It probably should have gone to the American voter technically. |

Sorry this is bullshit no matter which way you look at it. The guy hasn't actually done anything he has just spoken about it, shouldn't the prize be given ONCE he has actually achieved what he said he would do? I mean he's a friggin politician after all, they make promises ALL the time! *Edit: I just read the start of that article again, one of the reasons stated is that he offers 'hope'... hope... OMFG stop the presses this guy offers hope! LOL!!! O_o o_O |

I agree with Moo that the reason people were so happy about Obamas presidency was because he was black. I think that a lot of people, especially those outside of the US, were hoping he would become president because of his image, not his policies. Obama is black, he looks young, attractive and he has a very powerful voice. Mccain was old and just didn't inspire.

I think Obama will be the one who takes us in to Iran in another worthless war. You can see the war propaganda machine already in action. Remember not just a week ago they were alarming us about a supposed nuclear facility that was "new" yet we've known about it since 2006....lol. Obama the peace bringer, hardly.
