Is it just me or are the fort sieges just terrible? My computer can handle them fine, but DAMN that a ton of people.

 

Every time i get involved in a siege or defense, both sides just end up being at a stand off staring in awe at a sea of names without a clue what to do. With so many people it just seems chaotic and pointless with no strategy at all.One person.. hell one group dont feel like they are apart of anything.

 

Zergs are just ruining mmorpgs....

 

 

now im bummed out and have nothing to look forward too, the only entertaining thing to do is gank people...

Thats why I'm looking forward to seeing how Global Agenda turns out with its evenly matched team-based battles. People complain about small instanced battles and yet open world PvP simply leads to the chaotic and daft zerging situations you just described. Small tight-knit battles whose results have an impact on an overall map? Much better in my opinion and a lot more fun too.

Oh and yeah yeah I know all the elitist mmo nutjobs can whine about how its not "massive" enough and isnt a "real mmo" blah blah blah. If its fun to play and provides a consistently good gaming experience where your actions can influence the game world then who gives a crap? I would rather play that than any of the other so-called "real mmos".

yea zerg can be tricky.

if you are terran you gotta tech up vessels with irridate real fast if they go mutas. if they try fast hydra push you gotta siege up and make sure you place the tank a bit away from the bunker so they cant reach it too easily. if your protoss they always always go 3 hatch hydras to push your fast exp which can be a pain untill you know how to manage HT's and storm properly or even reavers

There is strategy involved. Ever play Lineage 2?

It's about coordination and working as a number of small units. Each group acts as one and collaborate in different ways to achieve a specific objective. It's zerg vs zerg, it's massively multiplayer. Lineage 2 did it quite well and there were no limitations there on who could step on the battlefield. Small skilled clans there did fairly well against overwhelming odds time and time again.

It may not be for you but it's for the rest of us.

Zerg now because nobody knows what to do, and nobody leading the raids. Give it time and the few will step up to get things coordinated, then it will get better. DAoC had the same issue for a while, but there will always be those few great ones who rise to the top as natural leaders and bring the massive zergs under control with purpose and direction. Then you will see the true potential of this games PvP environment. Let people get established first and you will see things change. One day, you will show up thinking it will be just another zerg-fest and start hearing the generals and captains barking out their orders, and watching people coordinate flanking maneuvers and frontal assaults in perfect harmony.

actualy i saw this happen last night it was amazing, lol there was a huge eylos force and we had all 4 walls protected, every time asmodians walked up we had attack forcses zerg them quick and merciless, it was pretty amazing, and then we would have a scout run around and find were they were Regrouping, and wed go and strike from all sides without stop untill all were dead.. it was sick for the first hour and half then i got bored and got a group together to go gank the low levels it was fun hahaha

people that use this to defend any criticism are the ones that need to go back to wow.

 

i love world, free pvp. I just think it was a mistake to make the abyss so small with forts that only go vulnerable once a day. The Zerg would be more widespread if forts were always vulnerable.

Thats quite funny. Two armies that can never be killed or defeated fighting each other. The only measure of defeat or victory is either boredom (the winners get bored and leave to annoy someone else) or annoyance (the losers get annoyed and leave to annoy someone else). Not that there's any decent solution to that of course.

WAR had the same problem. Balance in large-scale RvR or PvP is very hard to achieve.  It's why after the initial novelty of the game wares off a lot of players realise that the PvP isn't really all that much fun and the outcome predictable from the outset. WoW, of course, went the other way with small-scale PvP in their arenas, and I think that spawned the hordes of PvP nuts who seem to swing mmorpg game development these days, but even that has huge class imbalances, though not zerg imbalances.  The mmorpg genre has been really hurt by the PvP nuts, I often wish they spent more time on delivering an immersive and novel game experience, and not ganking or zergfests.

as for you,i was speaking about the op problem with zerg basicly he wants aion to ber like wow thats why i posted for him to go back ,second zerg is part of the strategy and if ncwest didnt make sure to time it 

people would be bored because theres would be no pvpve 

the problem right now its just pvp because most dont know what the each objective are ,once every player know them 

it should be insanelly nice

true right now its a zerg fest because lot of gold seller make sure you stay at low lvl abyss since thewy can sell their junk easy 

but as time goes,this skeem will go away

do defender have objective like if you attack you got to do x,y,z thing ,is it same for defender

Thats the thing about world pvp, ppl imagine these big wars with generals, lieutenants and grunts fighting for life and death, driven by the fear of themself and their familys ending up like slaves without a country. The reality is though, that the "war" is bttled between bored geeks and teens, who dont know how to take initiative and might go afk in the middle of the battle because the tv airs a episode of their favorite show. Maybe Battlegrounds do suit theese games better with their football`ish nature.

The open pvp might get interesting, if it actually was possible to conquer the opposite factions citys and lands and then exploit it big time with wealth and growth for every toon on the winning team. That way strategy and coop would be crucial since both teams need to win. However it might allso make the loosing  players quit the game.

Yep you summed up pretty much how I feel about open world pvp there. I really like the idea of what it could be like but the reality of it simply isnt that great. I think in computer games the action needs to be more controlled and focused. Thats why I am far more interested in the focused instanced pvp being offered in Global Agenda as it completely avoids the zerg but you still get to participate in a gigantic war as the battles in each zone have an impact on the rest of the gameworld. You can actually defeat your enemies by conquering areas of the map and taking control of structures and resources......which then helps to support your forces in adjacent zones. I think thats much better than simply having a single big zone with a keep in it and saying "ok everyone we will just leave you to it".

 People are assuming a lot in this thread so lets stick to that. This is not L2 or DAoC and the community is no where near the same. Most I have seen playing Aion are no different than the give me now generation. Zergs are easy and they are less headache to most players than getting together, making a plan and being organized.  The landscape of MMOs are different and thats not really a good thing and Aion will be one of many to notice this. The easier and quicker the better. This whole rise to the top and lead stuff is a thing of the past and a dying breed. You may disagree but lets revisit this in 6 months and see whats happening out there in the abyss.

I guess the Elyos zerg is better because we own all of the abyss atm on Vaizel. Was in a siege last night and the group leaders would mark the healers and we'd all focus them down from atop our fortress wall. Once the healers went down it was a simple matter to pick off the remaining forces - AOE is particularly nasty when they have no healers.
