I was really concerned the game would not run well on my computer, but so far it runs at a playable framerate: 20-50 fps depending on if I am in town or in the wild. That's with shadows turned off.
I actually like the graphics. I think they could have done alot better with the avatars, but I did make a few nice looking toons. I really like how I can change my hair style whenever I want. Even though it is a post appocalypse game, it does have a sort of western feel with the buildings and horse mounts and some of the clothing. The music sort of adds to the western ambiance...it's nice.
I'm in South Burbs I think its called, working on some crafting skills and trying to figure out just how things work. I feel kind of lost, but I think I'm starting to figure some things out. The game has a wide open feel to it and right now I'm kind of afraid to wander to far from town for fear of getting lost or eaten by something that I haven't seen yet.
I am making a crafter pistoleer or maybe a crafter melee for my first toon, just to discover how thngs work. I kind of like this character though so it sucks that once I am done with her there is no respec. One can alyways hope. I did a little light roleplaying last night. It was fun.
I think the other thing that kind of strikes me as a nice feature is that we are all playing in the same world. So no having to switch servers if some of my friends decide to join later. Anyway, I'm having fun. I'll be back to bla bla bla if something cool happens. |

Glad you are enjoying it so far. Don't get your hopes up for a respec, though. The community by and large is against the idea (I'm in that crowd) and the devs are pretty happy with not having them. There are, however, resources out there including a character planner on the internet that allow you to play around with progressing a character before you actually do it in game. Globaltech Atlas is pretty much the FE fansite at this time and has a ton of the aforementioned resources. Though not rocket science, FE is more of a thinking gamer's game than the rest of the mmos being released. You'd do well to bookmark and reference the Globaltech site often. Glad your enjoying it, welcome to the FE community. Don't sweat maxing your toon if your attached, the first addition of levels is supposed to be coming pretty fast, and the max level is set for 150. You'll be picking her up again after you max a couple times in the future. Things are pretty stayed in lower S1 to help you with the steep learning curve so explore. Remember though Mob behavior will change a lot in many areas of northern s1 and parts of s2. The game changes a lot in s3 as well, so practise on the lobotomized mobs in s1. :) |

Welcome to FE, both of you, and hope you find the game to be as fun and refreshing as I did. :)
I'm playing from Australia nowadays, and wont have so much time to be on the next weeks, but the character name is Brayson if you need a hand or want to chat in-game and I am on!

Gee, I've been enjoying the game so much recently, I forgot to distribute AP, just realized I have 42 available now :) Can't wait to get home, my second set of ATV components are ready, should be able to do the improved ATV research... I'm too snobbish to ride the basic level one :DDD DB Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is. |

I am also having a great time with the game. OP don't be afraid to go out and explore..and get lost,I got my mount yesterday(horse) and I just jumped on him and took off,It felt great to see just how big this part of the map was..trust me it is huge and I did get lost,I just found a road and said "ok let's go right" I then went through a few town's and finally found my way back to were I started...a few hour's later. This game just beg's to be explored and even though I did not kill a single thing or even craft (strange as I am so addicted to that as well) I had a great time,it must be the 1st mmo in a long long time that 1 eye is not on the XP bar, also like DB said there are time's I even forget my AP's as I am just to engrossed in the game. |

If you ever do get lost, just hit m, then uncheck overhead. It'll show the map of the whole sector you're in. |

Glad your enjoying the game. If you need help you can whisper me. Trevor Goodchild or Sapo Loco. I've run S1 4 times now and have an alt about halfway through S2. About the respec. I'm with everyone on not allowing it. I would like to point out that when Charisma gets its "more usefullness" update, there will probably be a free respec. I assume this will tie in with the animal training ability. There will probably be respecs when the expansions come out. That seems fair. Trevor Goodchild - Traveler - Crafing/Pistols |

Not since SWG have I suddenly become so pulled into a game. For two nights I have played until 3 am. I think even with WOW there was a kind of addictive component to it, but not like this. Hours fly by very quickly and I lose track of time.
I did start exploring yesterday. It started out by just trying to find some resources since there are so many people about. I kept wandering further and further from the town and next thing I know I was headed towards a plateau in the distance. My fps as I got further from the town actually shot up to 110 or so, so I turned on shadows and increased the view distance. My fps dropped down to about 50 to 70 fps.
Things are starting to make more sense. I am mostly harvesting and not worrying about leveling at all. I've made some clothing items and weapons. As I wander a bit more, there is this open feeling, the sense of exploration and being in a virtual world, not a themepark. There are the quests though in South Burb to help you get your crafting books. They don't really stand out from other games as far as quests go. Mostly I like to just do my own thing and have bought some books on my own.
My next goal is to get a horse. But where is the stables in South Burb to buy the untrained horse? |

Could I ask what kind of computer you are running on, As I want to play but I'm a bit thrown off with system requirements but I do run just about any other MMO on my system Vanguard on max, Age of Conan on near max,,... You'd think if I could run those two good I'd just about be able to run anything mmo wise anyways...I also can run Crysis fairly decent on this old AMD3800+ souped up single-core machine... |

Originally posted by Terranah Stables/garages are typically located on the roads leading out of the respective towns. They will be just off the road. If you look at the world map (notthe overhead so uncheck that) you'll see the roads and on them every so often you'll see a little white square. Usually there is a stable/garage there I've found. In S1 anyway. "Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..." |

I dunno. All i know is they make mention of charisma affecting pets and there is a skill called animal training that is worthless as of now. I've also seen it somewhere that Charisma will have more importance in the future. The developers are clever and seem to have a knack for making the game fun. Pets (combat and vanity) are a good bet for a future expansion. Housing is clearly on the radar. I've heard mention of an in-game radio like GTA too. As you play you get the feel that the full potential of the game is not yet in play. FE is a good investment. I rate it a strong buy.
Khalathwyr, you took the text right from under my fingertips. I have had great success chasing down the roads leading out of town to find the stables. They are always just outside the radar down the roads a ways. Trevor Goodchild - Traveler - Crafing/Pistols |

Here I am with my new horse and clothes. Moving right along. I am still only level 4, lol, but I am doing a lot of crafting things and taking my time.
The textures are blurry. I'm not sure if that is just something with my settings or how the game is. If the textures were hi rez my computer would probably choke though. I am using my graphic card's AA not the games. It seems like my games run better when I do this.

After reading all the posts here, I am excited to say that I went to direct2drive and purchased the game. As I await the download, I will peruse the boards for information so I am not totally lost as I enter the game (not that it's all bad;))
