I'm in the UK, and often have to stop playing due to lag. For those that aren't familiar with me, I worked in IT for almost 2 decades, with the last 4 years of that being involved in AI research. I'm more than capable of telling the difference between system and server lag :) My home connection is on Virgin Media. I have no other viable option as the local telephone exchange can only provide me with ~1Mbps connection. I love my little rural house and I'm not moving for the sake of playing this one game in my spare time. For me, and many other users, the trouble is in the connection between Washington and Raleigh in the US. This seems more so for the people on the ex-NTL cable network. VM is aware and has made a few small changes, but not enough as yet. I'm well aware that this isn't the cause of everyones latency issues, but it is undoubtedly the cause of mine. If anyone is having troubles with lag, I encourage them to download PingPlotter and run tests directed at www.fallenearth.com.

Playing from Oslo, Norway with Get internet 26 mbit. No lag/latency issues what so ever any longer. My basic specs aren't too far from yours: e8500 @ 4.3ghz, 4gb DDR3 1333mhz, WD 500 gb (OS) + WD 1tb (games etc) 7200 rpm HD's, Win 7 64 bit, 260 gtx OC'd, cheap Netgear router, win firewall, Avast anivir. Have you triple checked exceptions on your firewall and that antivir is not interrupting? Tried adding all .exe's in the game folder to the exceptions list manually? Have you e-mailed your ISP and ask if they are messing about? Tried going into another area of the map and seen if the problem persists? (Last weekend Terance and Depot 66 was lagged like hell, but Oilville was fine) |

Well, it's surely bad luck but not an isolated incident. I've beta tested this game for months and I can assure you, a lot of people were talking about / reporting such latency issues, especially where Europe was concerned. This does not mean, for example, that every player from a certain country would have it, but it was widespread enough to earn threads on the game's forums. And Rallycart, thank for the heads-up, that actually makes sense. Problem is, up to now all my pinging login.fallenearth.com has returned nothing but "timed out" messages... What kind of results are you having?

Nikopol, pinging login.fallenearth.com won't do much for you :) Tracert will show you why. You're not after the login server though, and it appears that all of FEs incoming/outgoing traffic is sent through www.fallenearth.com, with the most common 'hiccup' in the line at ae-6-6.car2.Raleigh1.Level3.net which is found in all connections to the server (on my VM line at least). |

They usually time out at Raleigh, which is why my lag is so bad. If you check the config files, login.fallenearth.com is clearly used, so I can be pretty well and sure that the game connects through it, and being that I have a ton of lag, and the pingpath/traceroute almost always times out at Raleigh, that is where I diagnose the problem. |

I really have no idea what you guys are talking about. I'm your average "holiday casual" gamer if you will. And like I said, I don't even know my own specs other than what I can and cannot play. I really hoped I'd hot have to do alot of this "wiz" stuff and that I could just install and go. Like I can with anything else I have played the past years (except fallout 3, that game was a mess beyond hell in comparison).

I asked for an speed increase to my internet 3 weeks ago, and have still not gotten it, because they need to change out the ADSL card. Really? Three+ weeks? I used to have an issue with them back when i used Bittorrent, which I would constantly get bad signals. It took them 7 phone calls, 2 e-mails, and almost 5 months to get it fixed. I would drop them if I had any other option. The only other ISP for me is Telenor, and their speeds are garbage. |

10/1 mbit cable here (UPC, ex-NTL) in Ireland. No issues whatsoever. Latency well below 200 most of the time. DB Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is. |

I sympathise completely mate. If you don't fancy doing anything techy, follow the request in this thread. FE will take a look and confer with your current ISP. Sadly, there really isn't much more you can realistically do other than try a different ISP. |

I installed Firefox, and vowed to never open IE again (even though I HAVE to in order to get into my net bank...) and only download torrents that have a large collection of comments. Any time I need to do something that I am unsure about, I use my laptop. I have gotten two minor viruses in the last 3 years (when I got rid of the firewalls and anti viruses), whereas I used to get viruses monthly before. Why? False security. I will do a sweep on my system from time to time with Nod32, Avast and bitdefender. usually comes up with nothing, or false positives. If you control what you do on the internet, dont give out your IP, and dont have software that downloads e-mails to your HDD (or open e-mails you dont know the sender of) then you are just fine. Cut porn out, and you are golden. |

UK based, Virgin Media cable (ex NTL) and the game runs smooth as silk. My pc is no decent spec at all, 7600 graphics card for example, and I only have a bit of an fps issue around the main player areas, other than that, it's perfect. Agreed, no euro server, all on one. The makers are tweaking things almost daily atm, so if you are keen on the game, hang on in there, if not, you have my sympathy (been there with that fkn steam thing, never ever worked on my system)

Yeah, I'm getting that hiccup at the same spot. Though I'll say again that during some hours of the day the performance seems to be better, so I'd advise the OP to try giving it a go at different hours. |

The things you listed are ONLY the most, very obvious ways to get viruses: there are a million more. Of course, I don't use IE either, but I'm truly happy to have my wireless modem as a firewall, and I don't mind Avira running on my system, the performance hit it takes is negligible. I have been burnt before, but I never had a single virus in the last 2 years since I've been using it. DB Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is. |

There is another reason to as why I wrote Gavlenet, that should indicate that there would be reason for you to trust me on my location. And I do not have 20s delays. My ping time is normally at 130ms. And even if you say this "And dont give me any lame "turn off the dls" cus that is all I got from help chat in game.", there is a reason to ask if your upload is choking your connection. I'm not trying to insult you or anything but when you say it is something lame thing to say, could tell alot about your knowledge about issues around that. Because it doesn't matter if even your downloads is only drawing a fraction of your bandwith if your upload is at max capacity. Anything uploading at max capacity that you can give, will give your long delays and alot slower download speed. Maybe it is not the problem, but if you are looking for solving your problem, why not start to answer simple questions?

MMORPG actually has been hacked a couple times and viruses were put on. The only way we found out was that people with antivirus programs were getting virus notifications when visiting the site. They had to bring the site down and revert to an older version. I can remember two times that this happened since I've been a member here. |
