It''s my job to be objective, it''s my right to have an opinion.

I'm not sure if any of you even remember who I am. I played this game a lot at release, capped out, got all the epic gear, etc etc.

When I left this game (after the first month of paid-play) this game was a broken, staggering mess. Nothing worked, FotD crashed if you didn't turn your sound off, classes were completely and utterly imbalanced, end-game bosses were so broken you could solo them, and there were hundreds, if not thousands, of other problems.

How is this game looking now? Did Funcom ever fix this game into something playable and fun?

What's changed in the last year?

There has been massive changes to the game. I would say too many to mention in a post but the highlights are:

Version 1.5 + brought a complete revision to itemization and stats. It is a fantastic change that worked well.

Engine improvements: The engine has been improved tremendously.

Bugs: except for issues with sieges the game has very few bugs now.

Content: Lots of added content this past year with Ymir's pass, the Tarantia commons,  plus a whole lot more. They are about to add the Iron Tower and some other stuff.

Most people who start the game now see a polished and solid game worth playing.

That is my opinion of it right now.

Short answer: Yes

Longer answer: Yes, but there are still considerable things that can improve. The game flows and is fun to play, which is the most important, but it will be even better when they implement more PvP goals (some to be implemented in next update a couple of weeks away) and continue with balancing of classes. More work on sieges need to be done too, to make this sales pitch become the carrot it was portrayed to be.

Playing ToR
Played AoC, Aion, EQ2, CoH, Rift, WAR, WoW

AoC is a much better game now then it was on release. There has been a huge effort to get classes closer to balance. While I think some classes are still OP, the balance is much better.

Craig Morrison:  It's definitely worth going back. I'm really proud, I mean everyone's more than aware of the issues the game had last fall, but the team have worked exceptionally hard to work through and address those things. I think we've done seven major game updates since we took over last fall, in making everything come together ... Behind the scenes there were 76,000 tasks that have been done since the game launched. I think that plays into how hard the team have worked to really look at the issues players had immediately after the launch and start to address them. XD

Well if Craig Morrison says it ...it' has just gotta be true. I mean how would he benefit from saying this?

If I knew Craig Morrison recommended his own game..I would have re subbed a year ago. I mean..it's not like his job isn't hanging on by a thread or anything

Thanks for clearing that up.

The only time you run out of chances is when you stop taking them.

Actually Craig Morrison says "Don't take his word for it try the game yourself and see - "free trial" - Paraphrasing from several recent interviews.

Vet winback site http://www.ageofconan.com/updates/  has recent dev diary where visual changes can be seen.

One thing to keep in mind, the population DOUBLED a few months ago for free trials and win backs, and right after the freebies....the population fell a a good bit, so instead of a net gain of original players AoC had a net loss of players after letting them "see for themselves."

So is may have changed but it is quite the opisite of recovery, less a downward spiral is considered a recovery...keep in mind that AoC has never grown since the first 3 weeks and every MMO that is released steals a large percentage of AoC's population.

EDIT: do you realy expect a straight answer from the game's forum? That is like going to the girlzone.com forum and asking if clothes are awesome111!!! Don't take my word or anyone, but do take the huge number of players who left over the last few months opinion when they bailed on AoC into consideration.

Funcom has reviewed all of its assets relevant for
impairment testing. This process has led to
recognition of an impairment loss of around
3,1 MUSD for Age of Conan due to a decrease in
numbers of subscribers for the game. Funcom Q4 10 report.

finaticd, you have no basis for your statements, so why make them?  Even if you spend 24 hours on every server jotting down the number of players logged in at any given time, you would not be able to figure out the total number of subscribers.  If you want to be constructive, instead start with explaining why you dislike the game.  That way you can make an argument for why someone should not spend zero dollars to sign up for the trial version of the game.

Last time I stepped into the lands of Hyboria, it ran so much better, loads of bugs cleared up, quests added. The lvling process is a joy with no gaps. However the end game for me is still a broken, softcore borefest with ill thought out ideas that can never be rectified.

last time I played was about the time 1.05 released and they had the vet return promotion. Most of the stuff you mention had been fixed. Game itself still bored me to tears though, all the bug fixes in the world can't make a game you find unfun suddenly fun. If you are hurting for a game right now gamble 15 bucks for your old account or look around the net and you can find deals as low as 5 bucks if you want to start anew. Worst thing that can happen is you will spend 15 bucks and still find it lacking
