Like so many of you, I've been playing MMOs for a very very long time.. (Ultima, EQ 1, Lineage, DAoC, FFXI, ShadowBane, SWG etc etc etc)

I eagerly awaited Aion since 2006.  I played it a little in beta but not too much, I wanted to savor the "new game" experience at launch.  In my 20s now all I can say is that I am bored and I've had to talk myself into logging in and leveling.  So terribly bored.  And I really hate not having fun with Aion.  It was supposed to be my new gaming muse.  But beautiful graphics and nifty interface aside, I can't even bear to put up with the grind and the annoying rifts and the tedious crafting.

There is no soul to this game.   The quests are not worth reading, there is no immersive storyline or atmosphere.  The Aion community is now the new home for all that went wrong with WoW.  The WoW community bled over into the Aion community and now it appears that it will be this way from now on with all mmos.

anyway, yeah I can QQ more and see myself out of here.  But I'm glad I'm finally done with this ride.  The lather, rinse and repeat of the MMO has finally lost it's hold on me.

It's only a grind if you run solo.  XP comes so much faster in groups after 25.

And don't get wrapped up in just leveling.  The rifts are there so you have other ways to spend your time logged in.  I'll level for a couple days, then spend one just hunting and killing the other faction.  Legions are also a must.  Aion was never meant to be a great solo RPG.  If you want one of those, go with Fallout3.

A lot of my entertainment value from Aion comes from group mechanics that you won't get with a team of bots.

Now there's some grade A irony: I've seen people 3 boxing, so I could definitely imagine a team of bots going at it ( probably all gladiators ).

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

/shrug

I think the lore to this game is decent.  It still isn't as good as LotR which far as lore goes is the best in the business far as I'm concerned.

You are right about the community though.  It's really bad in this game and I'm afraid you might be right that this might be the way things go from here on out because I have noticed a steady decline in communities in general with mmos.

The only one that still seems halfway decent is LotR.  They have their asshats as well but compared to most communities the few running around in that game are a godsend.

As for the game itself, I'm enjoying it.  Sorry you're not.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Yep, the same thing happens to almost any highly anticipated MMORPG. The problem isn't necessarily with the game mechanics, but the plaeyrs' attitudes. Something that is not likely to change for a long time. Not until players are helping each other and not even realising it, or a game that gives players enough immaterial incentive to work together for one common goal.

The community stagnates without the impulse of the individual. The impulse dies away without the sympathy of the community.

I think now the players are bored with the same things with the all online games. No matter how much they try to be different, they end up being all the same. Warhammer came up with the idea on pvp but it was a failure. I don't know AoC, so I can't say anything about it. There are some games, however, different in dynamics and goals; like Eve. But many of the games are based on the same assets: grind, quest, level, item, group, rank etc. The community needs a new goal, new purpose to play for. Some play for to be the best, some play for just fun. But there is no game -but one which I will not say its name- is balanced enough to satisfy all the players.

well thats a good thing you played Aion in my opinion, I was a\ddicted to mmorpgs a good few years ago.  I now play a few hours a week, I enjoy the game more and I have more of a life.

Might be worth your while having a looksie @ Fallen Earth, that is if you're not too burnt out on MMOs already.

Same here, makes me now feel physically sick thinking about the amount of time I spent (in single sessions) in my previous MMOs. I'm looking at you EQ & FFXI.

Sounds like the OP is burned out.  It is simple as that.

Aion is a solid game, but it isn't really all that different from anything released in the last few years.  Therefore, if you were bored of MMO's before Aion came out, you are probably very likely to get bored once the newness of Aion fades for you.

I think many who complain of Aion's grind are those in the burned out crowd.

If you are in this group, which I suspect many are, I would recommend against playing Aion in the traditional way.  That is, don't play for hours on end rushing through content.  Instead, play for an hour or two, and then do something else, preferably not playing another game.  Then, when the desire to play returns log back in.

Until something truly engaging and revolutionary comes around, that is about the best you can do.

unfortunately, I'm in the same boat. What makes it worse is the endless spamming for gold etc. I'm 25 and cannot continue on. The lag is horrible, as well. Good luck, all. I may go back to LOTRO.

I rarely experience any lag in this game.  It's one of the things I'm impressed with so far.  If you're having a ton of lag you may want to consider toning down what you're trying to run the game at because you may  be running it at more than your computer can really handle.

As to the spammers, just block them.

I`m old school myself and droped Aion faster then any MMO before.

I was already "cured" from any kind of gaming addiction so it wasn't really hard to dump this botfest they call game heh.

My Aion sub is payed until 1st December and I still refuse to play it  thats how awesome this game is :/.

Got 30 Assassin and I dont have the will to level it up to 50 at least.

This never happend to me before, I usualy give every  MMO at least 2 months and I get to level cap before I decide if I'm staying or bailing.

I didn't have high expectations for Aion in the first place, but the game is much crapier then I expected even with my low expectations.

It was gonna be a filler until STO launches but that idea is over and it costed me 75 euros heh.

Whatever.

I'm off to play Fallen Earth, a real game for old school farts like me and I should have done that in the first place and save myself some cash.

I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

You shouldn't be so surprised about Korean games. The core of the game is followed up from F2P technology just like a 486 CPU for today with enhanced graphics features.

and i never really got into aion i was really really excited for it then ob came and i was kinda disappointed by it but,

Im glad to see people are enjoying it and i will say its a good game with good graphics,

but i cant understand why people are bored of it i myself was bored of it after ob its why i didnt finish my preorder.

I know eventually tho after the server lines and etc die down i might try to get back into it.

Just because i don't really know what other game i should play.

Sounds like you're discribing SWG. I just played that game to be there. I crafted and sold weapons. That was about it. I had a nice house w/ all the paintings in a house at a small town on Kauri. I had an awsome time playing w/ no real or fixed goals. 'Cept to make credits maybe.
