I've moved legion and group chat to a floating tab above the general tab. I've also opened a whisper tab, as a separate one, just in case I missed a /whisper from somebody. I've been doing it to all the games that allow this kind of customisation (WoW, LOTRO, etc.) and it does help de-clutter the information passing through the general chat window.

One thing I tried to find, but didn't, was a way to adjust the transparency of the chat windows.

 Well, i've defended the game enough but the time came for me to cancel.  People saying they should wait to see how many people are staying after the first month.  That's ridiculous.  I would think they wouldn't do this because it's idiotic.  I just cancelled after i'd had enough of the gold spammers.  I'll wait a few months, come back, see if anything's changed and if not chalk it up as a lesson learned.  On a completely unrelated subject, anyone want to buy an account? LOL 24 Sorcerer, some other lowbies.  Anyone? Collectors Edition? Someone?

How long you think till your block list is full and your solution no longer works?

If NC isn't taking any action your block list will be full within 2 weeks and the only option you have is either dissable all global chats, dissable whispers or just cancel the game.

Guess what most people will do when that time comes?

But if you like spending several hundred hours gathering resources at nodes throughout the game world, to increase your crafting skill by a pathetic measly few points (while spending insane amounts of money at the same time), if you like being forced into anonymous status so that none of your friends can see you online just to avoid the spammers, if you like having to turn off your whispers so that you won't know if any of your friends whisper you to see if you ARE online, if you like having to stop what you're doing to block yet another gold spammer in General, Class, LFG, and even /say chat, if you enjoy waiting in line for up to 4 hours just to get into the game in the first place, if you look forward to game client crashes that are more frequent than troll flames on forums, if you like killing monsters and getting 0.00001% of your level's requirement of experience to advance (beginning at the half-way point of the level range of the game), if you enjoy getting killed by groups of enemy realm players while you're trying to level up, if you like mind-numbingly repetitive arguments in-game about how World of Warcrap is better than Aion and MANY other "dead horse" topics, if you like having to squint, turn your character, zoom the camera, and otherwise move the User Interface around so you can ACTUALLY READ the chat given the transparent background and terrible in-game fonts, and if you enjoy patronizing games where the gamemasters are utterly unconcerned with the majority of the player's concerns, and are absolutely impotent when it comes to stopping the biggest source of harassment online games have ever seen, by all means, play Aion.

The game is total garbage, but hey, you get to fly.

The gold spam is a non-issue. I usually don't need to block more than a couple names per day.

The server queues during prime time are a big issue.

The comparison between games in general chat can become annoying, but it's understandable considering the human nature. Like a guy comparing every new girlfriend with their ex, it's neither productive, or healthy, yet people do it.

I hate to break this to you, but the gold spam and the server ques are not separate issues.

For every gold spammer in the game there is a legitimate player waiting in the login que.

For every spammer there are dozens and dozens of bots and farmers running around the game and forcing more players into the login ques.

The true beauty of this is that the people buying gold are the root cause of the problem.  Of course they will say it doesn't harm the game or whatever nonsense they want to spew.  I just hope they enjoy their wait in the login ques and don't whine about it since they have no one to blame but themselves.

From what I read, they grossly underestimated both the amount of players that would connect to their servers and the amount of time they would spend in the game.

It takes me a minute tops to stop the chat from scrolling, /anon, and block the spammers (including those whining about the spammers).  For the next hour or three that I play there is no more spam only that of those not smart enough to shut up and block the spammers and stop adding to it.

Of course I understand that some forum goers are above having to do anything beyond lifting their index finger here and there so do feel free to leave as many before me have said.

LOL - I wish they would as it would shorten the queues. Right now pretty much in any zone on any server at any time of the day or night there are people running around having fun. It is way too soon to take anyone's comments as leaving the game seriously as most people are still playing on their included 30 days. Possibly they won't renew but there will not be a serious drop in players for at least a couple of months and even then unless there is a fundamental problem with the game that is not likely.

Of course NCsoft can ruin everything and the game can fail but I will play until they do.

Not really.

I unticked the All channel so it's empty. Created a Legion tab and placed all the important stuff like whispers, legion, system info, group there.

If the unfortunate thing such as a whisper from a goldseller happens to arrive, I just use the block function and that's it.

Just for the record, I wouldn't use useless channels like global, trade or LFG anyway so no loss for me here.

Shame to see each new MMO suffer the same issue within weeks of getting going, but i can't say I'm surprised. The indignant responses and suggestions about how to get round it - as well as the screenshot with the overwhelming flood of spam - indicate a recurrence of the problem on a fairly large scale.

I have a solution for you.....

.....STOP.....BUYING.....GOLD....

Hopefully that is easy and clear enough for everyone - i'm pretty sure it would solve a large part of the problem.

Exactly, The issue isn't resolved and I don't have faith in NCSOFT to deal with this issue. I logged into Aion today and there was a constant stream of the gold sellers in LFG. I blocked 12 of them, and a few minutes later more appeared. It's pretty bad to log into the game and see that :(
