I really hope that's a joke, as I don't wear hoodies, am in my 30s, have never broken any laws. But, since this is Toronto, and everyone who's not white gets looked at & treated differently all the time. -- |

How can I hate white people, I was in a white foster family, all my friends are white, except two who are black! -- |

Anybody can claim anything over the internet. You could be lying, but you could also be telling the truth: Who knows? The reason why black people are generally discriminated against when it comes to crime is because of the statistics: A stupid white guy will generally base his action on what he can reason within a few seconds and since black people commit the most crime per capita it provides them with the means to make a simple assumption and be done with it instead of actually having to do any real thinking.

well it doesnt really sound fair the way you put it. Usually when things like this happen, however, theres always one person that gets treated fairly and the other poorly. I think it depends on how whoever is securing the situation feels sympathy for more. ie. whether you defended yourself or not, if you busted the guy up more than he busted you up and you were the person they had to pull off or stop fighting.. chances are they wont sympathize with you much. |

You may only be 3/4 right. Social psychological research on racism finds evidence of racism at the level of perception (how people see and categorize things) where "statistics" don't really apply in any definite manner. People often make decisions using adaptive mechanisms (called heuristics) so that, as you said, they don't really have to do any real thinking; but heuristics are usually not developed using statistics as a basis. To the larger point, here's the scenario: The bouncer sees the fight, but only most of the fight. When forced to make a decision about who to remove (as he was forced to do), he's going to have to compare the two parties involved to decide which one is responsible. To do that, he's likely to go through his perception (so, the different aspects of the situation that might be able to differentiate the two people's responsibility) until he ultimately arrives at a conclusion. For one reason or another, he decided that this guy we have here was the one responsible. "Why" is up for debate; was the other guy's face more messed up? Was there the smell of alcohol on one stronger than the other? It was motivated by racism if (and only if) the reason why he was thrown out was skin color. That belief in race being a factor for differentiating guilt can't really be called statistical. The reasons why people believe in things don't have to be rational; it can just be because that dude was raised as a racist. Proving someone used race in their decision making is a difficult manner (unless they are willing to outright tell you that they are racist, which is a behavior that has become increasingly less frequent). The contextual cues (perception) people use doesn't necessarily operate using the standard methods of statistics and data collection; some people are just misguided. You can, however, use statistics to establish the likelihood of of the decision maker having a particular outlook on life. Where did he grow up? What're the cultural stereotypes that you find in those areas? You can even make inferences based on his current lifestyle...he's a bouncer at a rock show; is he more likely to have had race sensitivity training or attendance at a white power rally? Sounds to me like someone could probably get their money back if they put in the right amount of effort. |

Originally posted by mlauzon That's a pretty broad statement there. I live here and I don't see it, but then again I'm white I suppose so it doesn't impact me as it might you. I haven't been to any Dragon Force concerts myself but "generally" it's not the kind of music that the people of the black community listen to. You might have just bumped into some retarded skinhead that is racist beyond rhyme or reason then again I wasn't there so I can only take your word for it. No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga- |

You have no recourse here. They can toss you out on your ass for anything they deem a security risk. By the way, I don't agree with you that the relevant market here is health care. You're not regulating health care. You're regulating insurance. It's the insurance market that you're addressing and you're saying that some people who are not in it must be in it, and that's -- that's different from regulating in any manner commerce that already exists out there. - Scalia |

He should of been removed from the concert but they should refund him in full. Also, the other guy should of been removed too. My question to the OP is how do you know that he wasn't removed? They wouldn't release you at the same time and thru the same door if you were fighting. |

Dude. You were at a fucking metal concert what were you expecting? If you don't enjoy people running towards eachother headfirst just because... well, it's metal you should not go to a metal concert. The problem here is that you tried to defend (which you did not specify, this could've been anything from blocking the hit to pulling out a shotgun and blasting his face) yourselves when in reality you should have got slightly pissed and hit some other guy, defending yourself is not metal. Could you possibly specify what you did to defend? |

The bouncer was incapable of using your sophisticated empirical thought process, so he must have been relegated to using categories and was thus a racist.
