According to Xfire WoW lost 10% of its market share to Aion, it had 60% market and its today in 50%.

Ofc Aion got many player from WAR and other games too.

Lol. I was just curious the way a particular WOW fan is explaining why Aion has the numbers it does. I fhought maybe some figures have been released showing a mass exodus from WOW.

I would say 10% of WOW numbers is huge. While i dont play either game, its good to see some healthy competition in the market.

Ofc he is explaining, even if he doesnt admit it he knows the wow market as it is today is in danger, and that the game will going down from what it once was.

And good thing i say, monopolys are never good for the creativity of the markets.

Wrong.

The Xfire graphs show the playing time of the games. Not the number of players. :)))

Aion is being played now on average at 6 to 7(!) Hour sessions. Thank you launch period and "shops"....

The average MMO is played at 3 to 4 hours.

You have to count the number of players, NOT  the playing hours.

And last weekend WOW was at  63 to 65K on the weekends. We will see how many played it in this weekend....

Tell us the truth Zorn =) you are feeling thretened by Aion right? C'mon, you do more posts about Aion than about WoW, that has to mean something. You know it man, and the fact is that its much more fun for you, to have competition, lol.

Since you are so bored of playing wow and spent so much time on forums, at least now you have some new entertainment, you play Aion, in you little way, bashing it and its numbers =)

No problem mate, as you wish. I Dont mind what you write, I imagine how you feel, thats enough.

PS: Im writing this while i level my Handicrafting skill to make me a nice rare staff... can you believe that in 4 years of wow i could never craft myself a god damned staff? Jesus...

I'm still trying to figure out how a logic, the devs and media need to be accountable for what they say post turned into a whoes got the bigger "player base" (read as a euphamisum) argument between WoW and Aion, Aion is new it has that new game smell weeee we all love a new game, when the new wears off then we complain. WoW is old, it has it's old men on the pourch shouting get off my dang lawn you punks. Both games have their flaws, the op was talking about companies and media that gloss those over. I can list out the flaws in every game I have ever played, a few of them end with the biggest flaw, I played it with a girl I was dating.  But i digress, in end a lot of people hate WoW cause they spent years playing it and didn't get what they wanted out of it, a lot of people are old school gamers and have run throught that new game smell on Aion and didn't like what they found under it.

People will be people, your opinions matter, but they matter when placed only in the right context, accept other valid arguments and move on. Doesn't change the fact that if you say something is awsome, has nothing of X in it, then it has a whole lot of X then you just lied. When you write a reveiw you have to put the self aside and get anolitical on that bad boy. I may love mangos, to me the may be awsome. To you they may be a bit to tart or bitter, all I can do if I am reveiwing a type is compair it to like products. Break it down as clearly as I can, for the conosure and the layman.

In games you should do the same, if the gameplay is repetative admit it, if the comunity more than makes up for the repetative nature of a game point that out. We all know a grind or a quest , alone, in a vaccume of non exsistent comunity, where you got no one to talk to will drive you mad. Life is about point and counter point, friction powers all things, yet friction that is way off topic is like a catcher playing in left feild. It's pointless and losses you the game.

I am only asking for 4 months now to give me the official link to NCsoft stating that and ... nobody can give it. Only the one IGN line that cited an unnamed AU source. It was clearly a type at that time....

But it helped to create a LOT of hype for the western market.

It should have been of course 1.5 M (due to the server numbers in the first quarterly report of 2009 of NCsoft). Very good still ....but keeping in mind that Chinese internet cafa"s can't really be compared to western monthly subs....

And now ... it appears Lotro has ... suddenly 2.3 million players in china beta also ....

The 3.5 M "rumour" was NOT the fault of NCsoft, but it came in handy to promote Aion in the west before launch.

Without that "magical" figure Aion would not have gathered the steam for a Korean game in the west.

I always was surprised how easy it is to spread rumours on the internet. NCsoft can always say the rumour didn't come from them though.

A clear example of how a simple "typo" ended up in promoting a Korean game on our doorsteps.

They didn't lie to you.  They just include people like me who pay a few cent to log in Aion, and say meh I don't like Aion.  And it just happen wow china get shutdown for a period of time.

It's just a lame way to play with wording.

Zorndorf once again demonstrates the type of post the OP is talking about . Hes never played AION by his own admitance in his other posts . So where does he get his imformation from ?

I ll admit i dont like his beloved WoW anymore but the difference between him and me is that i actually played it for 4 years and have first hand experiance of the game .

This is a guy that argued the average age of a WoW player is 30 which is laughable .

BEWARE OF THE TROLL

Zorn's so far past fanboi he almost can be considered a high priest of WOW or something.

There's marketing people at Blizzard that are less zealous about the game.

Most people don' t really lie about games, its just that  their opinions are molded by their perceptions, preferences and general state of mind.  This is why we all see things so differently (like why anyone would play any game besides EVE is beyond me)

I was going to say some more, but I'd be lying.

SHHHH hes building a religion . He might smite you . You dont want to be smited by Zorn because hes "the man" as he puts it .

Aion must be the most lied up game in history by now.

It is about time we count the servers and say ... "Hey where are ALL those players playing on ...? "

On servers with a max capacity of 7 K concurrent users on line  or 'thin air" ?

You seem to forget once more that you don't have any hard numbers to back up your statement so you have no idea if it's a lie or not.

You don't know if Aion doesn't have 3.5 million subscribers. The closest thing of information you have is that the game had 1 million paying players 4 days after the chinese release in China alone. That was in April. The IGN report came in may. It's not impossible to reach 3.5 million players by then.

i will tell you go try eq1 then speak about grind

At least the grind in EQ1 required a brain

Amen to that! And a decent amount of fear as well.

But that number dont' mean anything.  That was 5 month ago.

If you exclude the Taiwan, Japan, and westen Aion player.  I highly doubt Korea and China have 3.5 million subscriber now.

Taiwan have 17 server and Japan have 9 server btw.

Well I think it's probably even higher now. That number was a few months after release, so it clearly isn't a game that people play for one month and then just leave like AoC.

Well, Aion is released in China april 14th i think.  IGN's report come 1 month later.

What percent of the player quit 1 month later?  no one knows.

Both ways, it's just a poor indication of how Aion's doing now.

The game had an Open Beta test before release. People were playing long before april.

Clearly the servers weren't there to back up the 3.5 million players.

The NCSoft report of May (I showed above) spoke of 41 Korean servers and 113 Chinese servers.

That's a fact/

And each server could hold at MAX hold in a stress test 7K of users concurrently.

That's a fact/

And NCSoft NEVER confirmed the 3.5 million players anyway.

That's a fact/

There were not a significant number of servers added between mid May and when the typo was made at the beginning of June on IGN.COM

-----> Besides: it is not we who have to prove the 3.5 M doesn't exist ... (although by doing a simple server count we can show you the logic).

It is YOU who have to show me the official link of NCSoft where they stated they had 3.5 M eastern subs in June ...

-----> the same applies to the western count btw. A sample of Xfire on player NUMBERS (not playing time) shows Aion to be played by almost 1 million (!) western players !.

Exactly how would they do that on ... 16EU/14 NA servers :)))) as the servers can only hold 7K players per server.

Get the picture already ?

Same launched product.... same trics used.

------- > it doesn't make the bare bone Korean product any better for the players btw...

One of the nasty things out of this Korean launch is that every other MMORPG maker will BLOW the numbers up on the internet without any back up: just to create hype.

You really have nothing to argue with,

You don't know if any server can hold 7k players. For starters the only source you have is a blogspot post which is clearly refering to NCsoft korea NCsoft however doesn't publish Aion in China: Shanda does, which could very well have entirely different server system and an entirely different cap, in fact even Ncsoft West can have entirely different hardware and playercaps than NCsoft Korea

Further more we don't know how much the servers are stressed in China. As China has very strict video game laws and has an internet cafe culture, players won't be logging on quite as long as in the west thus having more users being able to play with less servers.

Just because they haven't been increasing servers does not mean that the playerbase isn't increasing. It could very well be possible that Shanda was expecting millions of players for Aion.

The only information we got is from IGN which got the information from the distributer of Aion in Australia. Obviously the Australian distributer is in contact with NCsoft. The other piece of information is that Aion reported 1 million paying players in just 4 days after release in China.

Is it accurate? Not sure, but to say it is a lie like you did  without further information is ignorant. For a game that has reached 1 million players in just 4 days in China also and has over 150 servers in just Korea and China, It seems to fit with the 3.5 million players claim.

I'm not sure where you got your numbers from Xfire but you probably misunderstood what it said, because that's assuming the game already has over 1 million players using Xfire alone. Considering the pre - orders were 400k, the game would have sold 600k copies after release in just one week and that would be just xfire users. over 1 million copies sold in just one week for a game that' doesn't have a big IP? I doubt it.

What it does show is that the actual daily users of Xfire users playing Aion is about 11.500
