Is there a reason?

Is it because we haven't seen anything massive yet?  Or because people think doing the main story is all there is to the game?

They've announced that there will be massive PvP fights and raids, as well as endgame when you complete the story.  Why are people still calling it a single player oriented MMO?

Because they (most of the community)  fail to digest all information about the game before they pass judgement and throw their uneducated opinion around as fact.  They (BW/LA) said during E3 that the player's story is about 10% of the game.  But no one takes the time to find/read that.  Basicly, ignorance is their issue.

Its because the trailers shown have not shown anything Massive Multiplayer. It lookes like a Co Op Group Adventure game. Its just does not look like a MMO. I am not saying thats its not because you cannot judge a book by its cover but thats just what it looks like. I have not even heard any info on anything envolving large numbers.

Because people think that because they can't see millions of players running around in an Alpha video, it must not be an MMO even though BioWare has said it like 50 times now, so many times in fact I'm getting sick of them having to explain it. Better off if those noobs just don't play the game.

Its does not matter what Bioware says. Companys say anything but seeing is believing. Look at how much has been promised in previous MMOs but was not delivered when people got the final product.  If Bioware says that it has Massive Content then why not show some of it? Nobody is looking for Millions of people but at least something on a larger scale then whats been shown.  Again, I am not saying that the game does not have it but it has not been shown.

I'm about to give up explaining it as well. If they want the answer they can research it with ease.

Usually "single player oriented" is used to described the pre-end game portion of an MMORPG.

It's not really relevant that the game has raids in the end.

WoW for example is considered a single player oriented game, or solo friendly, NOT because it doesn't have raids at the end which are of course forced grouping, but because the pre-end game portion of the game can easily be solo'ed all the way through.

It's solo friendly or single player oriented if you can solo easily all the way through the levels or skills. I believe rough estimates are that only less than 20% of a player base for any particular MMORPG actually plays the "end game" for any significant amount of time. So the pre-end game portion of the game is much more important than the "end game".

I think this game will look a lot like a solo friendly game, since you get NPC party members, and quests will probably scale so you can do them solo. The majority of the player base will probably be off in instances doing their quests solo, and group once in a while, till they get to the end game, then quit or roll an alt.

Even so, might still be fun, because KOTOR was a lot of fun even if it was a single player game.

Because people prefer blind, lazy ignorance to the facts. This topic is moot and will typically lead to a flame war so I'm suprised to find that no one has contributed their nonsensical bs to the thread.

Maybe because people fear it  will take subs away from their chosen game? Just a thought. People love to troll new games. Ive been known to bait an over zealous fanboy myself but feel people should reserve game reviews for games they actually have some knowledge of. Maybe one they have actually played?

Because TOR is hyping story. In showing off the different classes, the story, and the voice acting, it's usually demonstrated with a single player, though there was the one video of the bounty hunter and Sith working together. As some have said, nothing particularly massive, in regards to the number of players on screen either in PvE or PvP has really been shown. That's not to say that there won't be large scale battles with many players, but such things haven't been showcased yet.

I've got to say, people are acting very quirky about this game right now.  Many players right now see the story element, and the video with a couple in game players and jump to conclusions.

The strangest part to me is that, in games like darkfall, and CO, and Warhammer, they would have early videos of just areas and locations with absolutely NO players... yet noone ever questioned if it was an MMO. (maybe they questions if darkfall was going to release, but never if it was an MMO).  The game still has a long time to launch, and I'm astounded by the amount of people that claim they are MMO veterans and then take early gameplay and level footage  as being indicative of the final product before the game has even reached beta.  Something doesn't really add up for me there.

So, to answer your question, they either A. don't know very much about the game and choose to make rash generalizations for no good reason,  or B.  They have all of the information and choose to ignore it.

Because people love to speculate and state them as "facts", that and assuming it's KOTOR 3 with a chat box. :)

What WOW did you play World at War? Becaues the WOW that I played (World of Warcraft) was full of group content way before you got close to the end game.  I mean hell before I hit  level freaking 30 their were already 5 or 6 grp instances that I could run with others.  If you want to sit here and say  how those could be soled at a low level go for it, but you would be dead wrong.

I think you would have been better off using a game like Champions Online as an example of a grp oriented MMO.

If you're going to stick it out there, don't be afraid if you get it cut off.

SWTOR seems to have a lot of signle player oriented content.  I suppose the voice over feature and main story cause people to relate the game to KOTOR on console or PC.  I can't deny that I find it with a lot of single player content, but everyone should understand that there seems to be a lot of discussion about the typical MMORPG features such as PvP and raids.  I think it will be a game that appeals to all types of gamers.  Of course I also see a great deal of questing, theme park style missions associated with this single player content.  This doesn't appeal to me or the others who love freedom in MMORPGs and lean towards a sandbox style, but I think it will be a solid game nonetheless.  I am looking forward to the single player content as well as the multiplayer content.

Bioware seems to have been trying to empahsize the thing that will make SWTOR different from other MMORPGs.  This would be the emphasis on character storylines.    If BW had just showed more standard MMORPG elements like PvP or raids first, everyone would have just said they were making a WoW or EQ-clone.

It appears that BW may be realizing that they've put a bit too much emphasis on the Story element as they release information on the game.    They have repeatedly said all the other standard MMORPG elements in the game, but they'll have to start showing it soon.   I think we'll see more of the typical MMORPG elements in the coming months.

well think about the first two games, Kotor 1 and 2, Those were story-driven single player games and people really enjoyed that so they think that is is an online kotor 3 and not Swtor.

No, its because some people just like to complain whether they have proof of something or not.
