I recently had some old EQ nostalgia after not playing for a long, long time, so surprise!-- I resubbed. I haven't felt this kind of addiction in almost 4 years. In fact, I started from scratch, and the addiction is unbelievable; I don't know whether it's the game mechanics or the memories, but I'm just in love all over again. I understand people's criticisms about the changes in difficulty and lack of immersion due to dated graphics, but if you're loafing around waiting for EQ3, I highly recommend you hit it up and stick with it rather than seeing the graphics, comparing them to Aion, and saying, "There are prettier games out there, why am I wasting my time?," as I have done a few times. Of course, if after sticking it out you still don't enjoy it, to each his own. But if you're waiting for EQ3/Next, realize that it will most likely not come to fruition, and if it does, it won't be until 2012 or later. In the meantime, I'm extremely satisfied with EQ1 and am glad to feel the intoxication of addiction again. |

Welcome back, glad you're having fun.
After being gone for 5 years, I too said eff it, I'm not gonna wait for the next EQ1 anymore. Jumped back in, and was surprised at how much they've improved the game, it's like playing a new game. Yet, you get this sense of nostalgia, like you've been here before (of course we all did), but there are many new zones, revamped zones, and new features that makes you feel like you are playing a modern game but with old school gameplay.
EQ1 is about the only MMO left on the market that plays like an old school game, while having a decent population and still getting expansion releases once a year. It's that old monster that just won't die lol. EQ1-AC1-DAOC-FFXI-L2-EQ2-WoW-DDO-GW-LoTR-VG-WAR |

If there is to be an EQ3, this would be the top game on my radar screen. |

I resubbed recently, too. However, I can't say I don't regret. The only choice is to level by soloing, and when you're in the 70s, soloing is barely an option. It takes about 5 minutes to kill one mob(most boring 5 min of your life. I actually surf the web, since its autoatack and let merc heal), and you get about 1/100 of a percent of XP per kill. EQ just isn't a viable option, anymore. |

At this point I'm waiting for more information about Everquest Next, before I start waiting in anticipation.

This may be true, however a modern game that "almost" meets the mark is a lot easier on the eyes than EQ1 (or Ultima Online for that matter). I think "Everquest Next" might be some kind of huge hit. Sony has had time to learn about what works and what does not. While the new game may not meet all of our needs, I expect it to cater to many folks. |

I'm back playing the original game. When you first see them, the graphics look horrible but after a while you just sort of settle into them. I hope by playing the first game it tells Sony that people still want an EQ1 like experience but with a full AAA team and new graphics, and new players. I actually like some of the new things that EQ1 have done. I think some combination between the new EQ1 and the old EQ1 with new graphics would grab some people. Throw in housing and the crafting from EQ2 and you might have something. I would love to see what a penthouse in Grobb looks like. :) |

With EQ1 aspects it can grab the attention of the original EQ1 crowd. 2. With EQ2 crafting and housing, it would complete the focus of the current market. 3. With updated graphics it will contend with the newer games becuase even though graphic dont really matter once your play, if your game looks sh*tty then most people wont buy it. Plus I really hope than when EQ: Next comes out it will have aupdated EQ1 style graphics instead of the EQ2 style graphics.

I am willing to bet EQ3 is farther along than people know. I am willing to bet late 2010 or early 2011 for release. Devs can be pretty sneaky with keeping things under wraps. I too certainly hope they follow the EQ1 model in style and mechanics. |

I also hope anynew EQ can take whats good from EQ1 and EQ2 and combine them to make a even better game, I love both games and am active in both. But im waiting for something with EQ2 GFX and the EQ1 feeling. Truth be told that will prob never happen however. In all reality any new mmo made by anyone will be much easier much "dumber" then the earlier ones, simply because they must cater to a much larger fanbase. Im hoping them find a way to make the game simplier for the mmo newbs and still rewarding for us vets. |

The reason it's being called "next" is cause it's going to be free-realms in the EQ universe.. think RMT w/ free to play / pay to play options.. think taking every dollar they can out of your wallet and letting you pay for success.. Don't expect to see anything like eq1 or even (what it use to be like) e2 again..
They have the engine .. the mmo as we all wish it would be is.. dead... |

If it's SOE, unless management changes, you can be sure to know that any future games they develop will be loaded with RMT, much like Free Realms. EQ1-AC1-DAOC-FFXI-L2-EQ2-WoW-DDO-GW-LoTR-VG-WAR |

I know alot will hate on this but RMT is the way now since people who are impatient and want the shiny object asap will pay the money to get it. RMT is the way it seems for MMO's from any genre to any part of the world.. be it Eastern or Western influence. Hopefully EQ: Next will be PC compatible as well.

PC compatibility is a must for me, and a must if they want to catch the older crowd who mostly are PC folks. I dislike, but can live with RMT, if EQ Next is done very well. I do hope there is mystery and danger in Norrath as I once again explore it, and exploration was the most fun I had in that game. Sneaking through a dangerous zone and making it to the other side had a thrill that could not be measured in gold gained or experience points; it was just fun. Let's hope for the original three islands and perhaps done bigger and bettter, and loaded with content. |
