Guys If you liked the Gothic series at all please for the love of God do not take anything these reviews are saying seriously.

This game is a hardcore Free roam Rpg, it's hard to play and hard to learn everything from the monster difficulty to figuring out the UI takes time and because of that it's being given a 3,4 or 5 out of 10 from major review sites.

The game runs much better on PC but even on the Xbox due to chugging here and there it doesn;t deserve such a low rating.

These guys did the same thing to Two worlds giving that Game a 1 when it clearly didn't deserve it (atleast not on PC after the patches).

These guys blast everything even the hack n slash rpg combat.

Rent Risen if you wanna test it out but please not trying this game due to the reviews is crazy. It's obvious these guys don;t enjoy hard games and want Risen to be level scaled like Oblivion so they could walk right through it.

Seriously guys they are doing it to Risen just like they did to Sacred 2 and Two worlds both imo are good games.

sorry but Sacred 2 is not a good game. its crap. ppl have right to make an opinion, and since everyone's a critic - get used to it.

Sacred 2 was reviewed before the patch that fixed near every problem. It was given 3s and 4s and clearly is closer to a 7 or 8 now.

Reviewers are jumping the gun because a game is hard and it takes near forever to progress in the game so they toss together a BS review by the time they level to 3 because it takes a few hours.

You see it all the time, Console reviewers rating a PC type Rpg badly because it has a learning curve.

Edit: also ever wonder why Sacred 2 is still 59.99 after all of this time? because everyone knows the game is rock solid and one of the only quality dungeon crawlers on the market that released in the last couple years.

Surely by now a "Bad game" would have dropped to bargin bin prices on 360 no?

I was thinking of getting it from steam...10% off if I get it in the next 4 hours.
But I can’t find any reviews....what ones are you talking about.

EDIT: What is better...this or sacred 2.
I’ve been meaning to get sacred 2 because I loved Titan quest and was told it was similar.

Well for me gothic 3 is a total crap, you go in game first time and there's a fight with no cutscenes or tutorial whatever first thought in my mind was wtf? To add to that my pc was lagging while playing it and it doesn't require some high end pc so it was poorly made.

I'll try risen because from videos I saw it didn't start as wtf but something similar to oblivon but instead of in prison you are left ashore after the ship breaks.

So, you're really saying the reviews were accurate at the time of writing, before the patches....?

On the 360 the game had horrid preformance issues and a glitchy combat engine within a week the patch was released and since then Sacred 2 is one of the better rpgs on 360.

The reviews were done for sacred pre-release so yeah it deserved a 4 or 5 rating then.

Edit: alot of the times I agree with reviewers but they have been off the mark with PC type Rpgs for a while now. It would be a shame if these companies stopped making these games on 360 and Ps3 due to bad reviews. Honeslty the only way Risen would have gotten a review above a 7 is if they dumbed it down so you could level fast and the mobs were easy.

Explain please, why is it a bad thing that reviewers review a game in its release condition?

Afterall, that's the impression we'll all get from the game if we buy it at the time. It's the entire point of a review. To tell us if this is shoddy workmanscraft or something we don't have to wait before trying.

If a patch comes along and fixes a shitty release they should just re-review it if it's really that much of an improvement.

Btw, this is the opinion of someone, who like RadioMaryja judging from her avatar, has played Anarchy Online and enjoyed it, despite the fact that it was an unplayable pile of turd that sucked massive donkeyballs for the first year or so of its life. I sure as hell didn't mind the headsup back then that the game I was getting would be pretty much as far from perfect as it was possible to be. It saved me alot of grief as I knew well enough to stay away until it was actually presentable.

That's the problem they didn't give it a re-review. So now every player of the game has to go to review sites and explain that the review is old and how much more improved it is.

Risen isn't a bad game, It's clear this eurogamer guy hates games with a learning curve or any kind of challenge.

Bad reviews like a 4 or 5 keep new players away. Bad reviews like that could keep Risen from even being bought at all except by the hardcore crowd. It would be a shame because it is a good game.

All I see in that review is a guy that got frustrated because he didn't want to level his character and wanted to explore without getting owned. These games don;t work like that witht he exception of Oblivion.

Check this shit out and you tell me if he isn't crying because the game is too hard and not like Easier more mass market rpgs.

" I hit the wall after about 15 hours of play, as I simply couldn't work out what I had to do next to progress the story. You may well end up as an absolute bad ass by the end game, but why should I suffer to get there?

I know what you're going to say. "So what? The game's supposed to be like that? It's a hardcore RPG! You just don't get it. Go back to playing WoW, noob!" Well in this post Oblivion, post Fallout 3, post Fable II world, Risen's got no excuse, especially on the Xbox 360."

Would you even listen to a guy like that trying to review a hardcore Rpg? This guy gave Risen a 5 out of 10.

Listening to game reviewers is about as useful as listening to the idiots that review movies. Opinion often outweighs fact in any kind of review so why worry about what some guy at Eurogamer has to say about a game, especially from a controversial site like Eurogamer?

I can’t find the video you are talking about but I saw a couple of early gameplay footage and the game looks decent (graphically it’s really nice)
But the game has good metascore
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/risen
Has an average of 8 and 9.5 user score.

So like i said..Eurogamer has the worst reviews out there (imo)

The problem is any normal gamer does listen to reviews. sure the rpg fans know to Download a demo or rent the game first but you would be shocked to know how many people listen to Gamer Mag reviews like its  Fact and not just opinion.

oh ok cool.

I already know the 360 version is going to be a bit stuttery. PLaying a direct Pc port on a 360 is like playing a new game with a system that only has minimum specs req on medium graphical setting. Obviously it will stutter here and there.

For some of us we like playing on our sofa and relaxing to a nice Rpg so we will take the slight graphical and preformance hit to play on a 360.

Oh man, I would have missed many great games, if I had believed the opinions of these "great" journalists. I still value my own opinions more than some random guy's writings in his bullshit reviews.
