Seriously, the size of the official community, here and other places is just huge! I am actually amazed by this and I know you all where going to hear this sooner or later... is this a possible WoW killer? I say no because the size of the WoW population is just staggering.. however I do believe this game will put a huge dent into it. Just amazing thou how many are following this title huh? Heard it before, does it matter? Usually when people start throwing around the term "wowkiller" the game ends up killing itself from hype generated from that single term. Who gives a shit,. is it a good game? that matters. |

Bioware is a evry well known company. The last thing I heard they had something like 5 million registered accounts on their website. It doesn't hurt that they are making a Star Wars title either. This game will have a huge following. As far as it being a WoW killer, who cares ? |

I don't see anything killing wow until people get bored of it.
But yes, I agree. Its mind boggling how many people are already waiting to sign up for this game. And the ones on these sites are only a tiny fraction of the total amount of gamers. My website is closed temporarily. Hopefully it will only be a short delay. |

I have been around since before Star Wars was even a movie and yes i agree the following that franchise has is HUGE.I really think it is a no brainer, why do you think they continue to make star wars games after all these years? Look how much Square paid for the tomb raider rights, and their owner was unhappy to lose it.There is a ton of money around that IP,and Star Wars is probably 100x bigger. However we are talking about a FOLLOWING,yes it's huge, this will NEVER convey how good the star wars games are or ever will be.This is also true of how much money a developer spends [within reason]a 10 thousand dollar project is not going to be good at all,i'm talking about the other end of the scale ,a 100 million dollar project does not mean high quality.Look no further than Blizzard, they have to out spend the entire world on games,JUST to meet their payroll. So their investments will be much larger than anyone else before they even begin to put anything on paper. If the OP thinks this HUGE following will mean a lot of players for Star Wars games ,i highly doubt it.The reason is probably because once you choose to COPY an IP,you are limited. If you stray too far away from what the Star Wars fanatics expect, then your game fails.Open end Fantasy games have much more leeway to CREATE,witch IMO is a better option for the game and the players. http://www.youtube.com/user/Napolianboo#p/u/15/rCYLLQCNc1w |

Thats why Bioware is using this time period of the Star Wars Universe. It allows them to be Star Wars with a whole time that is not constrained by other lore, such as how SWG was/is. "And after blizzard takes over the world, they are gonna gather a bunch of lemmings, sit on their fat asses near a cliff, and watch the little fuzzy bastards suicide dive into the ground below. . . . . all just for their own entertainment." |

If EQ1 is still going strong after 10 years with about 600K at it's peak, I am gonna say that WOW still be around for the next 15-20 years. |

Or a failure to contend with the hype. What Dana Massey had to say about developers marketing their games too early hits the nail RIGHT on the head. It's what happened to Warhammer Online, AOC, and a hand full of other games I can't think of atm. Yes, these games are still around, but in a sense, they are zombies. No, not in the computer venacular where a hacker or virus has taken over your computer. They become moreless ghost towns of the MMO community; relics or prototypes that failed to meet the high standards of their consumers. Read the recent column that Dana wrote; it's a sobering reality. One developer isn't going to kill another. There is only one way that a MMO becomes a ghost town, and that's through overhype. Stop the hype! We don't need to beef this game up anymore. It's in BioWare's hands! Any failure is only a result of our own grandious fantasies. Really, anything we're led to believe is purely speculation at this point if we're to put aside what we've learned thus far. Why do we continue to get our hopes up? After waiting for two+ years, your hopes go from mansion to skyscraper and beyond. When the release finally comes, you're left with a slightly bigger mansion than you had imagined in the beginning, but a mansion nonetheless; and a failure in your mind. Again I plea that we stop the hype. THE Rooster Nash |

Its not gonna kill WOW, blizzard pulling the plug ont he servers will kill wow. THis i feel however, will eliminate quite a few MMOs that are out there now. ahem warhammer, aoc, aion, champions, CoX. 5 million at startup and I am continuing to recruit friends to play this game. Everytime i show gameplay footage or the trailer to someone, they are siging up for it immediately. THough, my WoW friends will not be coming as they are excited about Catalystic (or whatever WoW 2 is called) Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, Eve Online, DCUO, Rift Playing: SW:TOR |

If they're not with you, they're against you. Plus, Cataclysm is a hunk of crap. I mean, you're seriously not going to release any new areas? You're just going to tear up the land a bit? And FINALLY, they open up Greymane. Ugh... I hate WoW; the acronym, not the game. OK, both. THE Rooster Nash |

WoW killer? No idea. Doesn't really matter. Will I find it fun? Will I find myself sitting at work wanting to run home and play it? Micro Transactions, WoW Killer etc all aside that's what matters to me. Fun and captivating FTW. |

I think that Star Wars: The Old Republic and World of Warcraft target different audiences, although there will be some crossover, I don't think that it will effect the number of players subscribing to WoW very much. |

I personally have no interest whatsoever in TOR. I'm a star wars fan, but a PVE focused Star Wars MMO? No thks!! lol I'll throw in the movies on my big screen rater then play some mmo trying to match it. I've seen the video;s of TOR, its exactly what I expected... I'll admit I'm abit baised because I much perfer MMOs with good pvp. I think alot of gamers are tired sick of grinding quests in pve focused MMOs as well. Give me some high tension pvp action and I'm happy. I do hope TOR is good though! I just won't be touching it lol

Hype for this game is a bad thing (IMO), never mention WoW when talking about this game. Also pre-beta/open-beta community population doesn't mean anything, AoC had 900K before it went live, how many do they have playing it now? 50K? SWTOR: sub ended, no thanks to Georg Zoeller! |

I can't believe they've had about 60k new sign ups the last two days and are around 320k now...unreal. Didn't Darkfall have over 300k registered forum users before it launched? How'd that turn out? Granted, this is Bioware and not some dudes sitting around smoking weed while they are coding, and they hit 300k users in less than a year compared to 7 years or w/e for Darkfall, but number of forum user doesn't mean that much. |
