That's actually a brilliant way to handle "instances" in an MMO. It allows the solo or small group player as well as the guilds to all participate in the content.

If that wasn't brilliant enough, they doubled-down by implementing a new "Super SideKick System".  Basically everyone on the team scales up or down to the mission-holder's level.  Previously, players could only sidekick to 1 other player.  When the issue came out, a lof of people including myself were a bit meh, but with reflection and playtime, have really enjoyed it.  The timing of a free activation and double-xp weekend on October 8th (likely the same time as when the Halloween event starts) should see a nice boost to playerbase again.

Sounds good, now SoE just need to steal the Examplar/Sidekick system from CoH and put it into SWG. :)

Honestly, it's an idea EVERY game should steal.

LOL :) Knew you'd like that one Badger :P

I can certainly see the Heroics being scalable, but I don't see how the "Sidekick" system could work with BH's/PvP and all the CL restrictions on gear, weapons, droids, etc. The amount of re-programming to do this would be massive I'd think (for SWG).

EDIT: Just read your UPDATED idea Badger -

Yup, I just added in the CoH sidekick system and wrote a bit on how temporarily increasing your level to match the higher level player in the group could work in SWG.

Temporarily increasing your level: Once grouped with a player that is lower level than you, you would have an option to take them as your "Apprentice".

Not THAT could work! Rather than reducing the "Master", you upgrade the Apprentice...that line was JUST added right?

Yeah I put the Sidekick system into my Game Play Concept: Apprenticeship System + Spendable XP  recently, it seems a more popular way to encourage grouping across level gaps than reducing your level to match a friends.

When the NGE took away the powerlevelling via spin groups no real way to group up with players of different combat levels was put in, we're still dealing with that today.

As long as the SoE and LA Production team on SWG are deciding themselves what the "Next big system" should be and not taking player feedback into account I doubt we'll see a system like this, but one can dream. :)

"We will also be adding new relic types in the future like spawn – yep, you will be able to spawn mobs with real loot, name them, and let them say a phrase like "Teesquared shall be avenged!" "

Can't wait for this update...

I would like to state that in no way shape or form that anything I receive from SOE influences my opinion about SWG or their company. I’m pretty much a typical average player enjoying the game.

Sarcasm? While I'm sure they plan to add in a few more "relics", I have no reason to think this new "big system" will be anything other than another chapter in 60-days. Just another dropped in and forgotten system - just like theme parks, just like the GCW, just like Battle Fields, just like the DE and Tailor updates, just like Jedi, just like the Heroics, just like Hoth...the list goes on and on. All of those were additions/updates with great hype and hope...yet all of them fell short and seldom, if ever, were tweaked after being implemented.

Bloody hell, should SWG slash its wrists now Tux? :P

You're certainly chirpy and bright today.

I don't think Jatwhal was being sarcastic, I read that the most enjoyable part of the CoH system for the players was the fact that they could make customised NPCs with specific specials etc.

It seems the SWG team knows this and has plans to implement this down the line.

that wasn't being sarcastic

and really this was a system that if the players really did want it should have come in when it meant a damn like back in the day now I'm sure a few people have touched it and it's being ignored

Pretty much all I've been seeing is another grind, another reason for people to AFK camp spawn areas... The rewards are no trade of course so people are grinding to master for the rewards and they'll be done with it. There are quite a few people that actually are enjoying this update (like I am) and actually taking time to make quests for the sake of doing it... Or using it to level a new toon :P

It's another update that will fall away... I have never seen storyteller used... Maybe that's because I don't go to events, but I do admire screenshots people take of the things they create using them. It's just not for me or from the looks of things a majority of the population.

Now that it's out though, they can focus on the future updates and hopefully come out of hiding. Zombies are on their way...

The sad part to me is, YOU are using it the RIGHT way...but because of that, you'll also be one of the last to complete the grind collection. And by the time you start to get "good" at this, it will be another "has been" addition. Even if you make the BESTEST MOST GREATEST of quests, if it takes too long, yours will be one that few ever completed as nobody will care then. They'll have their rewards and have no need/reason to do your quests. They'll double, triple or quadruple up on a few Tusken killing quests instead.

I was in-favor of the Chronicles idea. I kinda liked the concept. But again...turning it into a grind with a few set rewards, will make this update just like the GCW grind, just like the Heroic grind, just like the Hoth grind, just like the PvP BF grind, just like the Holiday token grinds (x4)...something players do until they have what they want...nothing more.

It should have been a VERY liberal system that gave players and creators the necessary tools to make some KILLER content. Killing 30 Tuskens at Ft. Tusken isn't "fun" or creative...it's boring and thoughtless. Players should have been able to set the majority of quest parameters and the system should have weighed those goals against in-game quests for rewards. It may have been a slightly abused system, but one slightly abused is much better than one AFK'd to completion and forgotten or one just flat out ignored.
