When a game has any type of variety they let it die or bitch that it's not WoW.

A good video game genre has variety but this one happens to be held back by the community that's happy with the same formula since EQ.

To the OP...posting that you don't like a game on this forum is probably not a very wise thing to do...the second you utter something negative about a game here, there's, literary, hundreds of people ready to jump down your throat and rip out your tonsils and maybe even your vocal cords for good measure...

I'm not especially impressed by Aion either...and I've not made up my mind if I wanna continue the sub when the free time is over...but it's not a bad game...just a bit...well...generic.

Unforunately the game I liked was unpopular so it was shut down and I'm waiting for something else to come along. I don't blame people who didn't like it for not playing it. You see them all the time. you get into a guild and the second you start conversating about RL shit they get all crazy or never say a word like a fucking bot.

It's sad really. Thats why I play games like Ryzom and Eve. Real people knowing that one of the biggest draws to a MMO is socializing not fucking solo play and gear.

You like eve which is cool i liked it two i just found grinding ore/forever upgrading my ship to be rather boring after a while. And yes thats 90% of the damn game ore and upgrading your ship. No Eve isn't a spread sheet but its a rather good space sim. Also none of your posts are innocent they are almost all aimed to get people to flame you so you have something to do. Apparently you have alot of free time to do so. You say you want a sandbox half the time yet you play a game that isn't one. And before you go off saying "not another one of these" and flame the hell outta me with all your bias let me say this.  Meh actually i won't cause frankly your not worth time time. It has nothing to do with people liking my games and everything to do with people not giving Variety a chance. Imagine if someone released a game with no UI, Totally new combat and randomized quests and  Randomly generated dungeons something totally different than what we are used to.

All you would see is retards on this board bitching because the dungeons arent as cool or as scripted as WoWs or Lotros and that the Quests dont give them cool rewards like WoW or push them in a certain direction. They would bitch that the combat isn't a Fps happy spamm fest like WoW.

Most of these guys won;t even give a game like that a chance.

How is the genre supposed to evolve if everyone wants to play a new version of EQ over and over?

Variety is a good thing. Also to the games you listed Take out the themeparks that are near death like DF and Ryzom, PotBS is near closing down due to lack of players because the game isnt WoW 2.0 like Aion. As for the rest they're just EQ with one new feature to hook people in.

Yeah she's awesome. She plays WoW right now. She wont buy me anymore MMOs unless I ask for it. honestly I haven't read enough on FFXIV to warrant a pre-order or anything.

It might be something I will get her as a random purchase. She likes Pve focused games like Lotro, WoW and EQ.

We used to play together but now the high risk games I play are too much for her. She gets really nervous and to her that feeling of danger 24/7 isn't fun.

It's kinda like watching a horror film certain people just cant relax with that suspense feeling all of the time. I understand that.

Let me say that I'm not as much of a sandbox fan wanting everyone to like the shit i play as I am a player wanting the genre to move forward with games offering the player more to choose from variety wise.

I'm pro MMO all the way. I want the genre to get better so I give games that bring nothing to it a hardtime. Really I only have the best intentions when it comes to the mmo genre as a whole.

One day MMOs will be fucking fantastic solid all the way around an amazing social, pve, pvp and rp experience. i'm a little impatient since I know if people continue to support the same shit over and over that we all complain about it will take longer to reach that point. Don;t get all mad at me for wanting this stale genre to improve.

To your other shots at me. No im not an Idiot, no I don't have a lot of free time ( I work a near 10+ hour shift six days a week) and yes Eve is a sandbox/open ended game lol.

Variety is a good thing but just building a different moustrap isn't enough. The get the world to beat a pth to your door you need to build a better moustrap. Now we can have a huge discussion of what "better" means but in this case it means successful. I won't call you a retard because I know what it actually means and trust me you won't see people that mentally challenged on the forums. Darkfall is a near death because Tasos is an asshole and hyped up a indy underfunded sandbox as a WoW killer. Darkfall would have quietly grabbed the FFA pvp fans and been a nice little niche that needed work if he didn't act like a jerk.  Ryzom mostly isn't given a chance because of its artstyle and lack of direction and Potbs is a different game then what most people are used to so it failed for that reason.
