Actually, I think the game starts out well, but as you get to 20 it really starts to fall apart and show its 'Korean game' roots.  So if by excessive bitching you mean I have been honest in my analysis of the game giving it credit for things I think are good ad criticizing things I think it does poorly then I guess you are correct.

Reminds me of that one game involving a barbarian, and we all know how that turned out.

Ya but that's because of lack of content and that was after about level 45.  This game has content and keeps you interested at least from my point of view.  Post 20 doesn't have a crap ton of quests to get you to 30.  Even after that it's just the same.  That's why they have dungeons/instances to help you level and get gear to pvp.  Either that pvp be rifts or abyss.  People in MMO's now really just want everything handed to them on a silver platter and if it doesn't they say the game sucks.  God I miss the days where there were no quests and everyone just grinded.  At least no one complained.

I call this the World of Warcraft effect, its turned mmorpg players into whiney lil kids, that complain if everything is not handed to them.

yep your right

As much as people like to try and blame WoW for everything wrong with mmos today I hate to break it to you but they were around before WoW.  All that game did was make mmorpgs more mainstream in general therefore increasing the amount of those wonderful types of players with their "wholesome, good natured, and team player"mentality to the genre.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

ITs a ganking game.. people zerg charge kill and then everyone goes back to grind until next gankfest arrives.

IF you call that pvp.. see i dont even see any skill on it.. nor chalenge to be honest.

You are grinding.. alone or with friends and then bam.. 40 or whatever guys land on you and gank you..

After a bit you get pi***d and go with another 20 or so friends to do the same to the other side..

If you think this kind of crappy gaming requires skill or whatever.. wake up it doesnt. Doesnt matter if you good or bad, if you using top or crappy gear.. only numbers and level matters.. no skill nothing to win from it either.

So.. i wont agree saying rift pvp is great.. id rather say GANKING fest in RIFT finds a GREAT example hehe op shoudl rather change the topic to  "Rift Ganking is great" instead ;)

I went through my first rift as a 22 chanter last night.  It was late so I figured, why not?

I was transported to a great grinding spot with nodes at 115 extraction which is exactly what I needed and level 22 dinosaur things.

I kept grinding until I saw a group of 3 Elyos standing far away from me just watching me.  I moused over them and then remembered I couldn't see their level!  Three ?? just standing there.  And then it hit me, they saw the same thing and had no idea what level I was.

I kept grinding away acting like I didn't have a care in the world and even pointed at them and waved.  This seemed to scare them.  It was a bit like bluffing in poker.  They were watching me to see if I was scared and I was watching them to see if they were headed my way.

Finally I just figured, what the hell, and started moving directly at them and they turned and ran!  I guess they figured if I had the balls to attack them, then they better run.

Fun, fun, fun.

Because none of the founding old school MMOs were gank and grinders right?

People will get ganked in any MMO to have world PvP. Welcome to PvP, it appears you have never taken part in it.

Glad you are enjoying it but to me Aion PvP is completely unappealing.  I know many will disagree but I think large scale MMO PvP is pretty stupid as for the most part it is just about who has the most numbers or most numbers of high level/gear people far more than being about any one, or even several, player's actions.  And outside of large groups the frequency and likelihood of it simply being gank or be ganked is too common.

Ok, you obviously weren't aware that NCSoft went to great lengths, so great,  that some customers may have been annoyed enough not to stick around,  by implementing a faction cap on servers. So neither side will have a population advantage no matter what server your on.

I am all for PvP, even non consensual PvP like the rifts, but if it is not a couple players on a couple players then it just becomes a big mess of our group crushes you group or my group owns this or that straggler and it not at all skillful or engaging.  It would be one thing if Aion had a big open world, but it doesn't.  Rifts in small linear areas only mean that initially those caught of guard get ganked then the other side gathers and responds and once that happens it is just a big mess of spell spamming and other such things.  No my cup of tea at all.

Sounds to me like you would like Darkfall, unfortunately, Darkfall is about as popular as a pet rabid wolverine for your 16 year old daughters birthday. MMO's are all about large scale battles, cause whats the point of an MMO if you don't see massive amounts of other players. I mean 20 vs. 20 can be done playing Savage 2 or something similar.

That's actually a pretty fair thing to write. Lvl 1-10 is quite fun. 10-20 not so bad. Beyond that it becomes an increasing grind. The PvP isn't anything new, but it will probably keep players going in the game while they wait for their one month sub to end.
