Welcome to Fallen Earth

Due to unforeseen technical difficulties, the server and forums will be unavailable until 11:30pm EDT (GMT-4) while we fix a server deadlock. We sincerely apologize for this interruption in service and are working hard to bring things back online as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
The Fallen Earth Team

Not only has the game down most of the day, they turned off the Forums so you cant even post a gripe about it.

I am having a tough time understanding why they have a test server and do not seem to be using it to test the changes they put into the game before torturing the user base.

Yeahh.... bad move on Icarus's part. I haven't played all weekend because I'm not near a gaming machine, but all I can do is hope ti doesn't hurt them too bad.

I cant be sure but I dont think they implemented anything. Thier servers just fell down and went boom.

I agree I hope they didnt just screw themselves on thier busiest weekend post-launch.

I noticed that the only avenue for players to complain was through ingame chat. Lots of scathing remarks and GM's getting irate. Even threats to ban players for using capital letters in chat. This game is a complete fiasco and I'm bitterly dissapointed by the whole thing after all the hype.

The tutorial at the start of the game is really poor. Lots of new players in chat totally confused in the scenario of escaping the Hoover Dam. Someone should be sacked for this.

I don't care how technically complicated these games are! When you charge someone money for entertainment or a product you need to deliver it in perfect order.

There are lots of products out there that are technically complicated, but they still work on delivery. Time for these software studios to do some growing up and become professional at what they do.

This is the first time you've ever had a MMORPG server go down for a whole day in fifteen years of gaming? Your MMORPG gaming must be very limited.

The statement you quote says nothing about game patching; they had a critical failure on their server (hardware/software, etc). That would not be game-patch related and would not be something you could test.

It appears that  the forums are on the same server as the server-side game, which would explain why the forums are down. Not particularly intelligent, but it would not be the first MMORPG I've played where that was the situation.

I note there is no mention of a patch of any kind today in the launcher or on the official site; just the announcement of the server issue.

Maybe it's because the code runs fine for the 20 people on the test server but can't handle the 800 people on the live server.

Yes, I made those numbers up all by myself.  The point is that the server issues seem to be linked to player load.  I wasn't in the beta but I'm guessing that even their stress test did not prepare them for what they have faced in the last few days.  I think they will get it sorted out in time.

If it contains the words video and game, it must be a WOW clone.

These things happen in games that have been out (and working) for years. As a cb tester I can say: I don't see how anyone could have problems getting through the tutorial (even though I never bought the game). They hold your hand through the entire thing, what are they going to do when they hit the actual game world? When there is nothing to really tell you what you should be doing, because that's entirely up to you?

Secondly, what do you mean by "all the hype"?

And yet you bought it never having attempted to verify it would work. The outrage is understandable but where's their incentive to do better?

Yeah the new player channel got so bad that the GMs started posting instructions describing how to take their complaints to the forums, then the forums got overloaded to the point that no-one could use them!

I'm not impressed. I enjoy the gameplay when it's working but I'm encountering more and more problems as time goes by. Of course the fanbois won't see reason and say that everything's fine for them - will be interesting to see how many of them remain silent as if nothing happened after the forums come back :)

I had problems getting through the the tutorial purely due to server side lag not a lack of understanding. Can you turn that off for alts, this was the second time I went through it... don't fancy doing it again.

Unfortunately Fallen Earth is a game produced by a indie developer with a smallish team. In my expirences the first week or two after an mmo launch (I'm talking AAA titles too) the servers are always screwy and bugs need to be worked out. Personally I believe their locking the forums was a good move, because when most games launch the forums explode with complaints, and people who are like "Okay the severs down, this game sucks, I want my money back, Who's with me". That tends to create alot of bad vibes.

My apologies if the point of the post was missed.

In 15 years of gaming this is the first time I have ever seen a gaming company turn off their forums when they take down a game server, very strange in my eyes.

No, the game has been plagued with bugs all day before the server went down. Think there's more there than hardware problems?

First time in 15 years, huh? First MMO launch? Coming from WoW perhaps? Just to let you folks know, this is common at MMO launches. When WoW first launched there was damn near weeks were the game was completely unplayable or the servers were down. Only excellent launch I have ever seen was with Dark Age of Camelot and even that wasn't perfect.

Please, before you posted how much experience you have, make sure that it actually applies to the medium your complaining about. Been playing MMO's for eleven years and all this has happened before, even the whining and complaining. And also, before you buy anything would be wise to be an intelligent consumer and know what you are getting into, instead of crying when everything isn't what you expected.

Consider this experience part of your education, and welcome to launch week/month.

The initial part of the tutorial was confusing and GM did have to hold my hand to get through it and well as other players. Lag was an issue too which meant logging and logging in repeatedly. I wasn't alone in the griping on chat so I suggest for those that haven't bought the game, but expressed an opinion here, go try it for yourself.

I've been playing since the 9th, and there have been no serious issues whatsoever. None at least, that weren't fixed immediately.

There has been a new issue that popped up the past couple of days, most likely due to a huge influx of new players. Missions are taking a while to update, and so are queued craft items. The server is lagged out, people are having "trouble" with the tutorial because the server was going kaput, not because the tutorial was poorly designed. So stop being intentionally cryptic and vague about "the tutorial doesn't work, so someone should be sacked".

The tutorial Does work, it's the server that is having issues right now. Wait until it comes back up and voila..

Half a day offline.. oh my.. total rip-off.. waaah!! Give me a break.

The forums are down too because they probably share the same infrastructure as the game server. I saw some of this on the first few hours of launch, where the forums started to getting heavy and started giving the game server some issues. Not the first time I've seen a game do this.. so not that "serious" as people make it out to be.

Contrary to popular belief, the sky hath not fallen.

This has happened in many games I have played over the last 10 years...I can't see how you say it has never happened to you before....I'm talking MMOs.

Anyway, i don't and wont play this game as it just doesn't interest me but Champions Online had their forums and servers go down in tandem.....don't know why but it seems to be a trend.  Maybe it is to keep ppl from screaming bloody murder on the forums.

Seems like a good idea......I just feel sorry for any pets you might have.

After 15 years you'd think they would get it right. It's not down to the consumer to check everything works okay. If your expectations are that low then this industry will get away with extremely poor launches. I pay good money to supposed experts to produce a quality product. I don't need to know about the technical difficulties I just want to game without problems. I want the product to do what it says on the side of the tin. This is not unreasonable and the more we complain the better the industry will respond. It's your misplaced empathy and indeed apathy that lets them get away with this.
