The Harmony Gold version took three different shows and tied them together to create a long story we in the US know as Robotech. Yes that suit is from the original show called Mospeada, but here it came from Robotech the Next Generation. We watched Scott, Rand and Rook and the rest of the gang take on the Invid Invaders! OMG I loved that show. :) ![]() |

Originally posted by Eben I wouldn't rule it out, since they are coming out with a live-action Robotech film (sometime), produced by Tobey Mcguire. Be pretty easy to tie a MMO into a movie release.
Supposedly, McGuire wants to play Rick Hunter...
I hope the movie gets made but really Mcguire is nowhere near right for that role, just look at the way he ruined spidey. Not enough range as an actor, not enough personality to carry a lead and he's certainly the wrong type (you'd need an everyman that could pull off a cocky attitude). I think a cast of unknowns with a maybe a couple of big names for the important secondary roles (Roy Fokker) would work best. I hope they won't go for a Tokyo chic style (it worked wonders for Speedracer but the tone is different, Macross is an epic) and that they won't try biting more than they can chew. For a feature lenght film imo it would be best to concentrate on the SDF-1 being found, the initial invassion, Rick becoming a pilot and Fokker's death. Perhaps Mynmae's effect on Centraedi culture to give it some depth. I think it should end with the SDF-1 still in space and on it's way to earth, probably after a climatic victory and some "hope" for the future. Another way to go would be to place the film at the end of the first war, with Lisa Hayes in a more prominent role and a bigger emphasis on Centraedi's internal divissions. However you would need an extraordinarily talented director to work the backstory of a decade long conflict. I did play the Palladium game and although story wise it was a decent effort (despite the dry and uninspired writing) yea, the game mechanics were atrocious. I was never a fan of one size fits all pen and paper rules but the megadamage mechanic was a definitive fun killer. MMO wise it should be placed at the end of the complete saga because of larger race and technology choices tho. You would even have humanoid Invid available. Another thing to note is that it would be a great chance for a sci fi game that's neither set in a post apocalyptic future (not in the Road Warrior vein anyway) or a Space Opera, which really would make it unique. Man, i'm getting excited about a game that in all likelyhood will never be made... Just to make things clear... |

I would love to see a macross and a mechwarrior based mmo, I just don't see either one happening, and with the company that is doing the mechwarrior reboot being just a crap company that seems to turn out only badly recived titles I weep for I see the death of mechwarrior coming slowly toward me and I can do nothing to stop it. If they did make a Macross MMO I want a real company with some skill making it. |
