As you might have guessed, I just finished watching Macross Frontier, and I loved the series. And I thought, wouldnt it be great if my two loves could come together, My love for Anime, and my love for online gaming all in the one?!
And so I thought, would anyone else play something like this? I myself thought of the potential in such a game. A MMO based on a popular anime series which has been around for a good 2 decades would be plain awesome in my view. And quite frankly I dont think theres been many developers that have delved seriously into the Galactic MMO genre. We all know how succesful EvE Online is, and if that success could be coupled with the popularity of the Macross Universe it would make for an interesting experience.
Imagine, starting your life on a Macross Flagship, exploring the wonders of a society which has embraced technology, but longs for something more primal; a place to call home. You decide to become more than a civilian and you enlist in the military, your goal to become the best VF Pilot and to overcome the adversities of space to find a new home.
I know it's a dream, but one I would love to see realized, and I hope someone else out there might see the potential in it. |

I've never even heard of Macross Frontier and I hate anime so I guess my answer is no. Sorry. |

Palladium games made a pnp rollplaying macross game in the 80's. It wasn't half bad either. Got to admit the idear of flying around in a veritech fighter, transforming into a robot and kicking the crap out of some aliens does have a certain apeal to me :) Just mentioned Palladium games as they made my own secret hope of a future mmo and thats the Rifts universe. But also a bit jaded about games developers getting hold of another i.p that I love and making another crap game. Nice idear though op, havent heard Macross beeing mentioned before. |

Depending on how well it was done and what elements they included, I would play. Macross has a long, long history and some of it has been excellent, some of it has been horrible. Take the fantastic elements, drop the bad ones and sure, I'll be there. Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, lots more |

For me it would depend on wether the universe was based on Harmony Gold's re-edit or the original japanese version. Really this is about the only case i know in anime of a translation being far superior to the original. The richness it brought to the story was awe inspiring... I still remember that scene of the Centraedi soldier's skeleton holding a Lin Mae doll as if it was praying to it. I was a very small kid when i saw it but it actually brought tears to my eyes. Yes, i would absolutely love to play it based on Harmony Gold's version. No, i would not stomach the original, it's too shallow a story without the continuity of earth's conquest and ocupation. Hopefully if someone ever brings this up they'll be able to realize it and honor the better story. Just to make things clear... |

if they did it right yes, I'd play it cause you have a built in travel function in the veritech fighters then you turn into one of the other two forms when you get there to get to work in actually questing. Have random invasion events, and name guilds squadrons, and groups fighter wings. Let you earn customizations for your character, and have social places to play around in as your human avatar would be awsome. |

Cheers to that, a Macross / Robotech game would rock. Hasn't been a decent one since Mechwarrior 2. |

I'd play it in a second. Closest thing I've found is this http://www.robotechmmo.com/ but as you can see, not looking so good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Force of Arms cause that game just looks sweet :) |

Originally posted by Tisiphone I wouldn't rule it out, since they are coming out with a live-action Robotech film (sometime), produced by Tobey Mcguire. Be pretty easy to tie a MMO into a movie release.
Supposedly, McGuire wants to play Rick Hunter... |

No, they didn't. They made a Robotech role playing game (which was, in large part, "roll" playing, I'll have to admit). In any case, Macross <> Robotech, even though a good half of Robotech was built with Macross footage. |
