With you there, friend. But if you're ever curious about a file that your virus software flags, try uploading it to www.virustotal.com. That puts any file through the ringer of about 30 antivirus products. If it flags only on one or two, its pretty safe to say that its a false positive detection. However, if more than 50 percent of the scanners see a problem, you may want to examine it more closely. |

Thanks for the helpful replies. I used to use Norton years ago, but my computer started slowing down so just on a whim I got McAffey and it found several things that Norton did not. That's why I switched.
My subscription to McAffey will be expiring soon and I will look into some of the AV programs mentioned here. Thanks for the suggestions.
I was able to solve my problem by turning off my AV while updating Aion. |

I think I was hacked. I'm posting this from my wife's computer.
I was pretty much reassured by what I read here and dismissed the trojan warning. But when I got off work tonight, I found my computer appears to have had a fresh install of windows. All my drivers are gone for all the hardware. Also I haven't been able to find my McAffey AV program.
I suppose it could be a coincidence. Or I could have had some kind of hardware failure, I don't know. It's really upsetting. It's late and it was a rough day at work, so I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow.
If anyone else has any problems I would like to know. If it's just me then maybe it's something on my end or some random attack, but it just seems suspicious that my computer was registering Aion as a virus and then poof....I come home and Windows has been reinstalled. |

UPDATE:
Well I must have thought about it in my sleep last night, because this morning I jump out of bed, turn the computer on and check bios. I just had a hunch, and I take a look at my boot configuration and somehow my hard drive boot sequence was reversed. Normally I boot with my 150 gb raptor drive, but instead the primary drive was showing as my data storage drive. I switched the boot sequence back to what it should be and now everything is back to normal. (sigh)
I'm not sure how this happened or why. It happened at 10:10 last night while I was at work for some reason. Maybe there was a mechanical failure I don't know, but everything appears to be back to normal as far as I can tell. |
