Not a console lover or anything, i love my pc more than i could ever love a stupid 1way console. But the point remaines, console games are more stable, and that is due to only one reason, Submissions

When a company creates a game for a console, they have to send the release candidate to the console manufacturer. At that point the game most follow specific technical rules, show standard messages and be bug free, and i do mean bug free, no frame drops, no collision issues, etc. not to mention crashes. And if the game does not meet these requirements the submission is failed and the devs have to fix the issues, and submissions cost, allot.

Now on the PC there is noone there to check these games for issues except the devs, Microsoft is trying to change this, games that have the games for Windows live banner, have been submited to Microsoft.

So that is why all mmo launches are technological failures since noone will post pone the launch of the game if it is full of issues.

So my 2cents if you really care about the mmo genre as i see you all scream out loud, punish games for having a failed launch and they don't fix it,if we the users won't do it there is noone who will, and more and more crapy mmos will come out, and they will only be fixed when the subs start to drop and that is generally to late to change anything.

From the mmos that are out right now only a hand full of them would pass a submission.

Just to show that the mmo industry has the games with the most problems.

The majority of issues during an MMO launch are server side, not client side. MMO launches on a console would be just as bad. Also, there have been some pretty buggy console games released that had to be patched.

What's with all this ignorant crap about console MMO's lately? They wouldn't be any better, they would just have to dumb down the gameplay to accommodate a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard(Think Oblivion's simplified UI compared to Morrowind). You could make a PC MMO have better gameplay, they just aren't being made because that's not where the majority of demand for an MMO lies. It's not because the PC can't handle faster gameplay.

As soon as a harddrive was added to the consoles developers started doing the same thing to consoles as PCs.  There are plenty of console games out there that are released in shambles and are later patched into a running state.

It's a Jeep thing. . .

My stupid one way console has the ability to, and does do game updates so your point about games "having" to be bug free, while true in the old days before "console internet"  is not true today. In fact, the ability to patch games at a later date is no longer something that plagues only PC game development. I expect to see more and more half finished, buggy games released for console as a result of internet capability.

Name a console game that is as bad as a pc game before patch. You are right about internet console, they do bring the whole production down a notch.

While i havnt played it as i dont own an Xbox 360, ive seen some horror stories about Mass Effect on console and know of the problems first hand on PC. By the way, bragging about how PC games are released buggier than console games doesnt help your condemnation of "one way consoles".  :)

There are other issues for console mmos. if you look at AOC and Champions Online (both games developed for PC and console) you have smallish zones. There is no feeling of scale that you get from other MMOs.   I think it really takes away from the experience when I'm looking at load screens every time I enter a building or want to go to a city. Even WOW got that part right. Sure dungeons were instanced but at least you could run through the zones and see the environments.

I think developers are looking at the console market as an untapped MMO market. I dont have an issue with that. But I think those games should be different from what they bring to the PC. The requirements for consoles and PC are different. Making a game to satisfy both markets will disappoint at least one of those markets.

Also, not all PC games are buggy on launch. So when you ask for a comparison, you're gonna have to more specific.

by one way i was referring that you can only play games on a console, maybe some movies, and that is about it if you don't get ubuntu on an xbox witch will turn it into a pc.

prolly has a lot to do with the fact that consoles have become little pc's in a box beside the tv.

oh and in on page 1

Im honestly not sure what all my PS3 can do as i havnt had it long. Im anxious for an MMO for it though to see how it goes. As far as single player games im pretty much sold on it. I dont use it to watch movies but i do like the built in wireless and the Playstation Network.  As for MMO's i doubt it will replace my PC anytime soon but if something i really want to play launches on console i will check it out.

Fail.

Although I agree about consoles becoming closer to PC's. Eventually they will have the exact same functionality, except that the owner will have less control over the hardware and software than on a PC.

Consoles are computers too, they're just crappier computers. Only difference being is quality control. PC dont have quality control, no one controlls the developer consoles do. In a way thats good and bad for PC game devs, gives them more freedom to do what they want, but also gives the bad devs a chance to peddle their crap without any warning to consumers except sites like these.

The crappy computer games some devs make dont give a shit and will put out anything to make a buck. This is what kills the PC industry.

When noobie Ned goes to the local game store and picks out a nice looking box with some fancy graphics on it and then takes it home to realize its a pile of crap he gets discouraged. He does this a few more times and after getting burned enough times he stops buying PC games all together. If you ever checked the games on the shelves in some of these stores theres probably 25 crap games for every 1 thats worth their money. This is what killed the PC industry, not pirates. Pirating was just a counter measure consumers did to protect their money from shitty games. Ive always pirated a game just to see if it can run on my machine and try it out. If it passed the test Id buy the original to play with all the other legit players. But even now I cant even be bothered to pirate some of these crap games, arent even worth the d/l time let alone any money. MMO's have been guilty of this too, putting out bare minimum crap and asking $15 a month for it when the game wasnt even worth the box price. Disgusting.

Like the populations in MMO's aren't childish enough, imagine how bad it would be if you had PC/console crossover. No thanks.

Less control over hardware is  true. But that only means that games developed for say ,an Xbox will be developed for that particular hardware and thats a good thing.

Console going away ? Consoles are the future of gaming because they are an untapped market for mmos and not to mention users do not have to worry about system requirements, it s much cheaper to own and maintain a console compared to a PC. I been a PC gamers for many years and since I started playing games on a console I can't wait for more mmos to come to the console.

I know several adults that play console games, many of them play on Xbox live. I also  have two grandsons that have played, EQ2, WOW and are now playing Aion so that argument isnt a good one.

Bah, I edited out that last sentence to avoid this conversation again. If you own a console, you probably own a PC as well. With the money you spent on the console, you could have upgraded the PC. Also, notice I said that PC gaming will need to get a bit cheaper. As time goes on, more and more people are computer literate. My 11 year old sister plays online as much as I do. So the trivial task of keeping track of system requirements (and it is trivial btw, shame on you for using that as an excuse) will be gone as people will just know more about computers.

Also, consoles cycle out about 5 years. If you're willing to let your performance slide for a while, you can make a gaming PC last about that long.

Right now you can own both a 360 and PS3 for $550. For me I looked around at graphics cards and processors to upgrade my PC, I went with the PS3 for $300. Less than the price of a good graphics card alone.
