EQ and UO are still around if you want to finally lose the rosy glasses nostalgia view :p  But yes from 99-05 EQ had me engrossed in it but today its a relic that is comical to have a look at again and remember how you could waste years doing "that".

On topic, Aion is doing the Nintendo Wii thing of releasing to retail slowly.  Here in Canada, BestBuy and FutureShop do not carry it yet, but do carry the other NCSoft games.  No pre-order, no sign of getting Aion at all.  EB is carrying it though.

At my local EB Games they had 15 total on release, compare that too 200 WOTLK. The 200 sold out in seconds as we all know would happen, the 15 as well, but the demand for Aion here is next to nothing. All I hear is "why leave my established char for an average game". Now I m not saying Aion is a bad game, but I just didn t feel it, and I think alot of people where I live anyways feel the same.

I'm only bringing this up because you mentioned x-fire numbers, but where do you see that its almost half?  Maybe I'm looking at stats for yesterday and you were looking at them for the day before (or i'm looking at them for today and you were looking at them for yesterday) but I see nothing even near half.  The numbers I see are

WoW  X-fire users per day 60,894 and Hours per day 267,883

For Aion X-fire users per day 6,685 and hours per day 48,767

And that was with an increase in Aion from the previous day.

So today (or yesterday depending on how they update their numbers) Aion has about 13 percent of wow's x-fire numbers (notice i didn't say players because that's not really a proper way to use x-fire) and about 20 percent of wow's time usage.  Again, I only mention this because you said Aion was at almost half of WoW's X-fire numbers, and I just don't see it.

Aion is nothing more than an Asian grindfest. IT offers nothing new, and does PvP and everything else either worse then other games or the same offering no reason to play it. Flame on fan bois flame on.

BTW For those saying there are subs or people will resub, as it stand until the first month or 3 is over you cannot say if or how many are subbed. Once again, flame on children.

It's a bit passé to debase WoW players all the time. It's hard to take anyone serious who must tack on some form of WoW bashing to their every post. I've had some fun times playing WoW but I've grown tired of it as well, I see no reason to stomp my feet and throw it around like it's the new "newb." Asides from that, it seems a lot of games release well then flounder shortly there after. I was hoping a lot of games would go on to bigger and greater things (I'm looking at you WAR and AoC I love both IPs way more than Warcraft's!) after their release but they ran out of steam fairly quickly...

Considering trying this game but, man, I'm about done with grinding toons through any game. WAR made it easier for a bit, PvP grinds seem to take the edge off it some but I just want to have fun at this point. Someone make a viable shooter MMO quick!

If Aion gets a 50% retention rate post 1st month I'd be surprised.

op your wrong ,yes they lost some but most came from other game like gw or other game

and some had just plainly left gaming and came back in aion

dont get me wrong wow lost about 10% player

but the other are coming from other game

some game lost 50% of gamer so those got hurt pretty bad by aion

and thats just the beginning ,lot of store dont have time card for aion

so lot of player are holding till they got game and time card

and lot of other store plainly ran out of aion game

i ncsoft send time card and game to store in a timely maner

expect other game to be truelly hurt in the coming 21 days

other game will lose as much as another 10% on average per game so that will make an average of 20% total customer lost

on averager /game

i do an average because some game lose way more then this and some lose way less

the biggest limiting factor in aion popularity is the lack of either the game itself or the time card

once those two are properly supplied in your local store(for those that arent as lucky as the big city guys)

then ncsoft will truelly run out of server room

even with this week-end add of another server

yesterday all server were full its only been what 2 days (yesterday)

and lot of server had 3 hour/wait line-up

hell those gamer mostly used credit card lol ,very few have had the chance to get time card

yet if ncwest bothered to check a bit they would see 80% of gamerr they got right now used credit card

so it mean most of the time card gamer are still waiting for those card

so expect to see double the amount of player when those card are truelly made avail

because those cards are what made wow so popular

I don't know from normal retention rates for MMOs but I'd wager that 50% might be tad on the low side. The game is well-polished and relatively player-friendly which will keep the players logging in for a while. If the grind turns out to be more severe on higher levels (30+) or there are huge imbalances between classes, then maybe that 50% is generous, but still too early to say. I just think that those who pre-ordered and actually did get their game are willing to invest a bit more than just a month much like with WAR and AoC before.

Sometimes in this day and age we forget what matters most to us. MMORPGs.

There are around sixty people in my Legion and I know for a fact that at least 1/4 of them came from Warcraft, myself included. That's not to say anything for the rest of the game but I'm sure WoW did suffer slightly from this game. It's no WoW killer but it definitely has the potential to compete with WoW and I hope to see it one day.

I got bored of Aion during Closed beta's...didnt play open so i didnt blow the fuse for the actual release and can play it.

I say bring on DAoC:Origins O.O

i see NA+EU subs at 2 million Max. I do like Aion too.

I never thought WoW's numbers could be destroyed by just one game,it will  be 5 Really good games, that slowly pick at WoW's Subs till a hardcorefan base of WoW at 50k subs remains.

I hated WoW too though xD

I think it just comes down to the fact that there are a number of people (who are in the minority btw) on this site as well as others, for a variety of reasons, cannot stand the fact that WoW is as popular as it is.  It bothers them to no end that a game like WoW has as many subscribers as it has, has celebrities doing commercials for it, had a south park episode about it, etc.  They want WoW to fail so bad that they will take anything that looks half decent to knock it off.  It's really funny, it would be like people complaining that the Sims outsells everything else.

I agree with a few of the posts that mentioned that the only ones comparing WoW to this game and that game are the WoW haters.  They are the ones fueling the hate.  Get over it.  WoW is not going anywhere, and constantly trolling for fights about it gets old fast.  The most common complaint about WoW I hear is that they are all spolied 10 yr olds.  The irony is that I've seen that kind of stuff in every mmorpg I have ever played, without fail.  There are always jerks.  Usually it takes one loudmouth idiot that wants to start a flame war and the rest fall dutifully in line and start feeding the troll.  I'm playing Eve online atm.  Even in the game for "smart people" (or at least thats what some of them keep saying) it's there.  I went back to my first mmorpg, Asheron's Call recently, and it's there.  The crazy thing is, most of the arguments begin with someone saying something like, "This game is so much better then WoW...", and the rants begin.  "F WoW", Go home, carebear", etc.  Someone actually saying the game was BETTER then WoW, and the WoW haters still ranted for an hr.  If Aion did magically get WoW numbers and WoW failed, the very same rabid vocal minority of haters would drop Aion in a sec and turn on it.  It's not about WoW or any game really.  For them, it's about feeling special, or leet, or different from the masses.  And right now, WoW is the dominant mmorpg and they hate it, and anyone that plays it, even though most of them are playing it atm.

I dont have the problem you describe.

I just hate when people chose to do something because its popular and everyone is doing it.

I was talking with an old woW guild mate the other day and suggesting him to pay us a visit in Aion to check it for himself and he relplied that there is no way he'll leave the MMO that 60% of MMO players chose to play. Thats just stupid cause I see that he is actually bored of wow and when he logs in he is semi-afk all the time, doing a couple of HC or some dailies, chat a bit and so.

If he had replied that he is enjoying playing woW I would respect his opinion, but he doesnt play wow because he likes it anymore...he plays it because its the most popular game.

Same goes with music... there are people who are listening to popular music just because its popular.

Its sad if you ask me :(

This is where we make a coup and try to make everyone believe that the entire world is enthralled in Aion so that they will play too! Oh wait. That would be WoW. =P (I'm an ex-WoWer) I have nothing against WoW, but recently it has began to slope downwards in terms of gameplay. It seems the Devs are starting to care less and less about it as they rake in that multi-million dollar profit they receive every year.

I had a mate say same thing but i said no about 60% percent of the wow population playing Aion right now + 52million play perfect world so yeah wow is a newb mmo cut budgets version of everquest for retards. Aion is the most polished MMO released, more polished than wow and everquest on release also wow launched with about 200k NA users Aion launches with 400k. WoW has 11 million sub 6million in China, 2.5M in USA 2m in euro so yeah USA not so big huh. Even runes of magic has 2million in usa.

So give me a yell when you and the other 5 users on the wow server are finally ready to give it up...

Heh, yeah, when I was younger I was so hip I'd knock anything popular. I mean I still do in ways, but now it's mostly because it's "newfangled." Now I hate corporate America for different reasons, but I get the knee jerk reaction thing I just find it a bit amusing the posts turn choleric right off the bat. I have accepted the only thing that will ever kill WoW is WoW. All-in-all it's not a bad game, I've had my fun it's a bit long in the tooth for me and every level cap increase is one less reason for me to log in. May still give Aion a try here, we'll see tonight after I install the new CPU. My other one has been missing a pin since I built the rig a year ago, it seems...how it worked at all is a Christmas miracle or a ground.

The only thing wrong with that is that eventually something is popular because it's good or the best, then hating it just to hate it seems a bit over tragic. DIY killed Punk, after that nihilism sortta lost its charm.
