All the people that claim and cry that Aion has to much grinding.. I LAUGH AT YOU!!! You can always tell people who come from the big GIMMEE GIMMEE game thats hanging around, I for one love the style that Aion is bringing back to the genre. Like in day one of prelaunch. Me and 2 of my friends are hunting braxens.. Everyone knows the quest that requires you to kill them because they are being hunted to extinction by so many solo artists out there. Well I had 2 friends with me. While you were bored out of your minds we were chatting and talking and having a good time. Just like back in the days of EQ1.. Hell I tried to invite a few people to the group.. Some responded no thanks. So didnt respond at all. I actually managed to get 2 others to join us. 1 got what he needed and left without so much as a goodbye the other person stayed with us for the rest of the day and we ended up actually adding him to our friends list and played with him again yeterday. So for all of you who cant seem to understand that this game was designed around a theme that is, to be enjoyed most when with friends, and it is not designed for boring solo play.. All I can say is there is another game hanging around that might more suit you. Aion though is definately my type of game. And to hear it called a grinder? All I do is sit back and laugh at the idiots that have no clue..

You might want to get past level 6 before you claim there is no grinding.

It does have a "grind" in the sense of kill so many mobs, just like every other MMO, but it's fun, combat goes pretty fast, and it feels less grindey so far than classic WoW before they cranked up the XP rates. I'm not getting the grind complaints either, in fact I think the quests are quite fun. I thought LoTRO and EQ2 quests were a real drag.
At this point, it's a good bet that a large bulk of the negative comments are from young kids with junky computers or trolls. |

And up to what level would that mythical grinding start? So far in two days of pre-start, I've seen people closing in the level 30 mark (out of 50max). If anything, that tells me that the levelling speed is way too fast, not the other way round. |

That is the most probable reason of course, unlimited free time. Still, by that speed they'll reach the max level by the end of the week. If the game was Lineage 2 in its first chapters, they'd still need 6-8 months, even if they played for 20hrs per day. So ... ok, lets assume it's a grind. Compared to what? |

Out of all the complaints I have with Aion grind wasn t one of them. The only way I found it a grind was it was boring to me so I guess ya it was a grind in that way. |

Calling people who say they dislike grinding "idiots who have no clue", "young kids with junky computers" or "trolls" is really a great start for a discusion. [/sarcasm] Fact is: Aion is very grindy. Many MMORPGs are. Why? It's an easy way to keep people busy and active and playing, which means having them pay their subscription fees for a long time, which once again is the only important thing for the company. Does it have to be that way? No it doesn't. But few other ways to entertain people that long requires that little time to develope. Is grinding good or bad? Depends. There is small-scale grind. Like "kill 30 of that, 60 of that and 90 of that, and then bring me several hundred pairs of hooves, snouts and dragon tails". Then there is large scale grind. Like grinding raid-dungeons. And then of course there is the PvP-grind. Some people get bored quicker by doing repetitive grinding, because they want new challenges and more varying experiences while playing. And some people can grind all day long, enjoy the combat system and have a heck of a lot of fun. Why is that so difficult to understand? Those who get bored more easily by grinding will have a harder time to find the right MMORPG, since it's such a common "feature", but still not all hope is lost. :) And those who are more easily entertained by grinding have a large range of MMORPGs to choose from anyway.
Let's play Fallen Earth (from launch to present) |

Given the tone of your opening remarks - launching a thread by calling people idiots - you sound like a pretty unpleasant person to hang out with. I'm not surprised that person left your group without a word. |

OP seems a little biased, you think? The FACT is, there is grind....ALOT of it. You can say theres already high level people, but those are people that played the beta all day everyday and know where everything is. THen when headstart began they played ALL day. Does NOT mean there is no grind, just means they are extremely efficient at it. The point is, there is a TON of grind, it looks pretty but lacking a lot of substance that holds normal players like me. Ill stick to something more entertaining for now. |

Of course they don't have life, jobs or whatever. There are people that say - Every game has people, usually kids or people who can't do anything else but play games due to disabilities etc, they will always be ahead of everyone else in levels. Quite a few of those are also beta players, they know quests and game nuances, they know how to level fast since they did their research and exploration already in Beta. For one I have to agree that AION does cater to small groups even at early levels. Drop rates in some cases are low. And while with 1-2 friends along its much easier to run through quests then doing it solo. Also there is not enough quests to always keep you up the similar level that you kill mobs at. You either will have to grind for some 1-2 level in between quest hubs or have some friends doing it with you since often you will have to run against the orange mobs solo. Which in small group is very easy to get through. |

My question to those who thinks it's a grind is: why are you in such a hurry? If you're not enjoying getting to the max level then you might want to reevaluate why you are playing the game to begin with. Just a thought. |

Group vs Solo play has nothing to do with grinding. You can quest solo or in a group and you can also grind solo or in a group. I've leveled to 15 solo doing all quests, no grinding. Most MMO's you eventually have to grind in the higher levels because there's not enough quest content ready. I'm hoping Aion is different. This game wasn't designed for any one style. It was designed to accommodate both group and solo players. |

Well for one I have a life... A very busy life actually.. I work drive about 3000 to 3500 miles a week. I live in a truck for 2 weeks at a time... In the evening when I unwind thats when I log in IF... IF I have signal. For maybe a few hours a night.. IF I didnt pull a 16 hour day due to traffic and getting held up by a customer. So many nights I dont even log in. Also on weekends when i am home i dont even take my laptop out of my truck and I dont have Any of my games loaded on my computer. Why? Because I have a life at home. WIth a fiancee and a baby, with the beach jetski, surf, or offroading in my FJcruiser or camping. When I am online I look for something though that I can sink into. Aion offers a game that while sure it has alot of quests that require you to go out and kill mobs.. Guess what thats almost the norm. The thing is with a group or group of friends the combat is involved and FUN... I play a Spirit Master which is a solo friendly class. Normally In most games I play a tank. But even as a spirit master i play 98% in a group.. and the way this game is designed is alot more along of the lines of a group oriented game. Which creates less of a grind.. Now I will say. I wish everygame would use the mold that GUILDWARS 1 used... where as y ou have storyline quests and get rid of the kill this many mobs quests with the mercenary design.. Where you just get extra XP and coin for each of a certain type of mob as a buff maybe a timed buff in Aion instead of a instanced based buff. Or even as a instance based buff in dungeons. Guildwars was revolutionary the way they did that. WIsh every MMO would take from this design.. Ohh well one can always dream. |
