Heh, well up until a few days ago there was only a few hundred posts under this title. There wasn't a huge "wow killer" picture being painted on this game. So yeah, please tell me where you saw the super hype generated by NCsoft ? As I said before you either going to like Aion or hate it period. I like it so far and I'll respond to the Eurogamer review to keep the thread on topic. I disagree with the Eurogamer review...he is reviewing the game in Beta for pete sakes. |

I too don't understand what the fuss is about, and find the general gist of this thread faintly embarrassing as a community. One comment though - remember that scores have to be takenin context. Let's look at some other MMO scores on EG e.g. WOW gets at 8, WAR (re-reviewed though after a while) gets a 7. 7 seems a pretty good score relatively to me (and I've got to mention the score for DF - 2). And it also shows for example that the site will re-review the game after some time once the game is more established, when typically the score moves up 1 or 2 points (or in some cases down).

Well, some people did not like the review and used arguable arguments to justify their opinion, so the result is an argument about it. Apart from some uncalled for personal attacks it is quite ok for people to voice their opinions on these forums, I think. |

Well, I didn't disagree with the scoring or the way he described his experience through the game. My only gripe was with the way he described combat. I suppose I would expect from a reviewer to understand the meaning of optimising skill circles and cooldowns. Apart from that, no disagreement really. |

I'm not even sure why their review matters at ALL. People will make up their own minds about the game and either tell their friends to avoid it or play it.
Warhammer still has a 8.23 score on this site, for instance, and everybody knows that the game is a tragic failure, so I'm completely over 'professional' reviews.

I agree, Eurogamer is crap. The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. When will developers (and players) become sane? Now go eat some grass like everyone else. |

I honestly don't understand why some of the above posters are annoyed that Eurogamer reviewed a beta. Especially when the reviewer states in his review that he was reviewing the beta. If you also think carefully about it, the US & EU beta's goals were to stress test servers and finalise language translations to the game, opposed to making any huge gameplay changes. The game has been finished and out for 10 months now. I am against reviewing betas, however, Aion is the exception (to date), for all intents and purposes the game has been finished since it first released in the East. The 'oh but it was beta' crap is not applicable in this instance. As to the controls/combat I think the reviewer nailed it on the head, they are very similar to every other MMO and well quite frankly I'm getting bored of them so why shouldn't he? Repeatedly using the same skill rotation is BORING and I like the fact that he states this. The review also clearly states that it is pre-Abyss, which is not necessarily a bad thing as that is going to be the testing ground for most gamers, its usually in the first 20 or so levels of a game a player makes up his mind whether he will continue his sub or curse the developer on the forums for cheating him of his money, no? tl;dr: Stop whining that Aion only scored 7/10 - it's a nice well polished game, it just has no OMFG factor.

meh 6 or 7 seems about right to me. But they really should have waiting till they had gotten to 50ish post release, and see the PvPvE. That's the entire freaking point of the game, and he acts like once people get there, they will still be in the starter zone killing low level mobs that just melee and do nothing special.... |

He states clearly that he is only reviewing the first 25 levels. Mostly because there was not enough abyss activity to make a fair judgement. Eurogamer also wanted to get a review out when people are interested in finding information about the game not six months later. If the author had not been so clear on what he was discussing, I could see what the fuss is about. |

They probably will after a couple months. Well from my experience in closed beta, my sentiments are exactly the same as the reviewers. In fact, I think this is a very spot on review, rushed or not. |

Remember guys, a review is a review, this is the opinion of the critic/writer in question, not the official stance of Eurogamer. If you disagree, go ahead, it does not make the review bad. |

Like there is such a thing as a "professional" reviewer. Well, I guess there is. However those are required to make up stories and give all games a 9/10. |

Noob review....You can't review a MMO this close after the release. |

You can review a game after playing it for 2 hours. By then you know it if the game grabs you or not. I even wonder if Aion has any gaming value. The kind of feeling when you start up a 12 year old Starcraft game or Mario Bros and are sucked into it. Aion simply thrives on old WOW players. That's not an added gaming value. Eurogamer gave the highest possible score possible. Sorry for those that wanted a game. Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race. |
