Not sure if this was posted earlier. But as a part of their Direct 2 Drive turns 5 celebration, they are offering Age of Conan for $5. It looks like fileplanet still has a Age of Conan trial also. So if you get the trial, you can basically play the game for 37 days for only $5. Not a bad deal at all. The sale for the rpgs and mmorpgs runs for this week. Next week it is another catagory. http://www.direct2drive.com/6/6132/product/Buy-Age-of-Conan:-Hyborian-Adventures-Download

Given the statistical history of the game regarding subscribers, chance are good you'll be throwing away 5 dollars. If you want to try it, use the free trial. |

$5 on a game, compare that to paying for a movie or any other form of entertainment (say beer) |

Dunno, some days I feel MMO players are the cheapest people on earth =) Sales are weird on digital items though. I mean it's not like they have to move inventory.
Anywho, thanks for pointing out the sale! |

For any digital product or movie, the marginal product cost (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marginal_product) is obviously very low. However, this holds true for many other services as well. For example, for an airplane with empty seats, the cost of taking on an additional passenger is minimal. However, the passengers are essentially paying for the cost of taking the plane from one place to another. However, I think MMOs are unique in the nerd rage that they generate. Today you can try the game for $5 or even for free, so if you try the game and dislike it, you have at most lost $5. If you enjoy the game for a few hours before you get bored, at least you have had $5 worth of fun. Even if someone purchased the game at launch, the monetary cost of the game is minimal. Compare that to going out at night, which most places will set you back at least $100 and give you a hangover in the morning. |

Five dollars is a pretty good deal on a game. Heck, even going to the movies cost $20. |

Five dollars is the price point where, even if the game is well below average, I don't really mind taking the hit. For an MMO, any time the cost of the client and a months play time is lower than the cost of the monthly sub, I'll give it a shot. (Unless its a Korean MMO, then you really are pissing your money away!

honestly, people are more concerned about wasting their time than the $5. i think with lots of mmos, the gameplay is so bad, the cost isn't even the real issue.
that said, i don't put aoc in that catagory. it's a great mmo, compared to 95% of the other crap its competing against. i don't get why it failed so badly. |

I agree with the statement about people being more concerned with wasting time downloading/patching than the $5. There are literally 100s of MMOs most people never try even if they have free trials...maybe the IP just doesn't appeal to people, or they have heard how bad the game was and don't want to bother. |

Does it mean that the monthly price is over charge atm or Funcom planning to reduce the monthly fee as well?

How is $5 bucks for AoC a special deal? It was gave away free with magazines, and has been spotted for cheaper on various sites a year ago. ..but if you are suggesting that every single game offered in your link is far superior than AoC (MMO or not).
I'd have to agree |

Yes haha very funny, you are of course joking, we all know that. What a lot of people are failing to realise is that AoC is like a wine, it gets better with age, only quicker. As i have said in many a post, AoC, despite its bad launch, can now hold its head high amongst other fantasy based MMOs. Although not yet in the realms of WoW, EQ2 and LOTROL, i am sure in 5 years it will be comparable.
Please tell me, if you're so clever, which other fantasy based MMO released in the past few years can you compare to AoC. The ones i mention above are all over 3 years old. Its main competitor was WAR and even though that had a better launch than AoC where is it now? Whereas Aoc is getting bigger as people realise that a bad launch has nothing to do with the current game. Its main servers have very healthy pops and that is the measure of an MMO, not its launch status or a few random people's opinon of it. AION is coming but i doubt seriously that it will affect AoC subs and i cant think of any other imminent fantasy based MMO being released.

AoC can be bought from NA only, they keep ripping their own continent :P I already have my copy gathering dust on the shelf. I put it there 2 weeks after launch and don't really miss it. |

Youre better off taking a $5 bill folding it up the size of a baseball card and sticking it in the front wheel of your bike tire. |
