By  who's standards is it the #1 MMO of 2009? I found the game to be beautiful yet shallow and repetitive. So my vote is like the rest of the garbage pouring out this year toting top MMO honors; there all worthless so far. Now that's just my opinion of course and you have a right to yours as well. I could care less if it sold 3 million copies it would still be a worthless MMO for me.

I don't even need to read a text wall like yours but the game is not out yet and 400k is not a large number considering war had 1mil at start and look at war now is slowly dieing.

War had way less pre-orders than Aion.

What war had was post-release sales, with 1,2M units shipped (shipped=/=sold). Aion is also going to be at the stores around the world.

Its defiently the best MMO thats come out in years probly since LOTROs release. Props to ncsoft for making it happen. I for one will stand by them and see what this game has to offer. If it continues to grow as GWs did I've no doubt it will live up to the hype.

MMO's being what they are, I'm gonna have to jump on the "copies sold/subs retained = success/failure" bandwagon.  I pre-ordered as well, but I have no delusions about it.  I know I'll enjoy myself while it's fun.  How long will that fun last and how well will Aion hold up in the long run?  We'll see.  Regardless, right now, based on pre-orders alone you can go ahead and hand it #1.  Box sales after release (especially if it's as good a launch as it looks like it will be) will push it far higher.  We'll check back in 6 months and see where it stands (hopefully still doing well).

Congrats on your 400,000 pre-orders for a game that has already been out  in Asia for a year.  Aion will no doubt be a huge success.  But to bust your bubble about game of the year talk, there are already been over 1,000,000 pre-orders for http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=75807 from the different sources.  So while AION may be "the thing" for this month, it will never be king.  Good yes, king never.

And don't forget Aion will not feature Game Guard at launch and  it might bring some more players in

Not to burst YOUR bubble, but that won't release until the end of 2010, which isn't 2009.  Furthermore, do expansions get game of the year awards?  To top it all off, there's been no other releases this year to compete with the numbers Aion will achieve, whether they sustain them or not. Its pre-orders alone have accomplished what this post claims.

As I said above, the measure of an MMO's success isn't some review or a single/group of player's opinions, but its sales and ability to retain subscribers.  That being the case, it looks like Aion's up top for 2009.  Reading comprehension FTW!

Hahaha, 1 million people paying $39.95 for a 5 level cap raise on a 5 year old game. Sounds like a deal huh? Go go King!

WOW is still number 1,it is still the ONLY game you can buy in my local stores,all other games have been removed ,except of course for console games .

Since we are talking numbers and i assume the OP is saying that numbers means the game is the best,then why are you all not out playing WOW?

Simple reason is because numbers mean diddly squat,i make decisions for myself and i hope everyone else has enough brains to make decisions for themselves as well,i assume they do?

I didn't follow Aion for a minute until open beta.  By open beta's end, I pre-ordered.  I made my own decision as well.  The numbers are still relevant, however, and are a measure (just one measure) of an MMO's success.  Critics, reviews, etc. do not tell the tale of how much any player should or would like a game, and frankly if I'd only gone by what I read, I wouldn't have looked twice at the game.

Honestly, dumber than the OP's post are assumptive responses like yours, trying to play them down for whatever reason.  Most of us posting about Aion are doing so out of the boredom of waiting...for Aion, so until the excitement dies down and we're all stuffed into the game at its release, get over it.  I know that this post thoroughly wrecked your visit to the board, and certainly just changed everyone's mind who was on the fence about it, thus crashing the perception that anyone has a choice about what they play (or at least by your reaction it would seem so), but in reality this type of thing has little bearing other than to excite the game's fellow players, and perhaps troll some trolls.

Edit: BTW, your tidbit about the Aion Kina search... try WoW gold, WoW powerlevel, or any other variety of RMT service.  What's your point?  These "services" exist for even the crappiest of games that rely on any sort of economy or currency.  And really, Aion accounts?  The game's not even released yet and I'm supposed to what...go buy a level 50?  Maybe they sell common sense, too!
