This is from DC Universe:
"Every item a player earns in DC Universe is permanently available in the character's wardrobe, even if the item is traded, sold or tossed away. Then, as a second layer, players equip actual items to gain their statistical advantages. They are not, however, under any obligation to display them. It is a bit tough to wrap the noggin around at first, but it may just work. Sure, Super Bob may be "using" a gun and "displaying" a sword, but it allows players to have the equipment they need and the look of the equipment they want." http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/350/feature/3513/page/1
Do you like this idea, would you like to see it in other MMO's like fantasy or Sci Fi? Or does it suck?

It works with armor, and other games have done it with armor (EQ2 and LoTRO's "appearance tab", among others), and it would work with weapons with similar functions (mace and axe; sword and axe), but it's just fail when you can use a ranged weapon and have it show up as a melee weapon >.> I don't want to see people shooting things with their sword -.- "In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]" (Wikipedia.org, 8-24-09) The best way to deal with trolls: |

Along those lines, if the character is HITTING something with his gun, and wielding it in such a way that he has no intention to fire it, it's sorta OK. If it actually animates as though it fires while you're whacking someone with melee damage.... just plain fail. Never underestimate the capacity of some developers to produce crap. It's amazing. |

I like the idea of being able to display an alternate weapon but, for me, it has to at least be within that weapon's same class or category. Display the flaming sword you got 20 levels ago while you use your level-appropriate weapon? Sure. Display a melee weapon while firing a ranged weapon? That just seems really odd. |

The idea is perfection in that every item I have acquired, I can display. I really, really, really love that. More games need to have different options for display and gear. If you have a gorgeous set but it is not good for what you need to wear, you should be able to wear those clothes. The same goes for weapons. However, the display weapon should be the same type as the weapon you are using. By this I mean that if I am wielding a sword, I should look like I am wielding a bladed weapon of some kind. If I am using a gun, I should appear to be shooting a gun. If I have a big mace....you get the idea. Everything else is wonderful, but the title here, displaying a sword while using a gun is a terrible horrible no good bad idea. Displaying a ranged weapon while performing a melee attack is fine if the animation makes sense. Pistol-whipping, bonking a target with the butt of a rifle, etc. But yah, holding a knife and "shooting" someone? .. that's much less reasonable. In a superhero or magical setting there is some leeway; one could envisage someone "casting" balls of fire from a flaming sword or throwing the melee weapon and having it return via telekinesis. If it's just a case of "hold a sword, target reacts as though shot" then that's just sucky. |

So true, so sad. That's totally nonsense to me. Characters should show what they have, unless it's related to a specific power.

I don't see why anyone would be against this. I mean I don't really believe you are going to swing a sword and hear bang and "shoot" a guy with your sword, if anything it would shoot energy or something, or you use a sword like a regular sword but with the stats of the gun, this one is most likely I think. Other than the gun/sword thing I can't see why anyone would not want to have something like this in any game, unless you like having your appearence dictated by the items you need to wear due to stats. |

If it's like every other hero game, you guys are going to seem awful dumb naysaying this feature. Like how I can create a medieval-armor-wearing guy with a sword on his back, but he pulls out dual pistols when I use that ability. It works perfectly fine in other games, and gives you tons of creative control over the look of your character. |

hmm Might i use THOR as an example with his mighty hammer he summons lightning bolts. Or slams it into the ground and causes shockwaves of thunder... blah blah blah... you get the drift Even in Sci Fi I will use the example of a Grey Knight Terminator with their nemisis Force weapons which are giant Psychic Halberds that have Storm Bolters attached to them. Which is kinda like a reverse bayonet. Giant mellee weapon with a gun attached so they can fire at a range while they close in for the kill.

What will be next thing I wonder... looking like a warrior when you are a cleric I guess. I can hear you and the people like you "I want to look the way I want in the game I'm paying to play. And robes are retarded". Or mobs will stop dropping random items, they will only drop what you need. "I don't want to do stuf over and over again". Or being able to have an toon (yes it will be a toon then) of every class in the game at the same level as your main toon. "I don't want to do the same quests again". Sky is the limit for these genius developers and their followers. |
