Originally posted by mmaize That would change absolutely nothing. Plenty of the quests are interesting but the issue is that everyone likes something different when it comes to what people think is a good story line, just like people enjoy different genres of the books they read or movies they watch. You could design the best fantasy story line ever made and some non-fiction person could look at it and be like...that was stupid. But the real issue isn't that the quests are uninteresting, it's that people simply 'some' don't care about them and are after the experience.
Had to fix that for you. I think there's a sizable group that enjoys reading the quests, I know I do at least the first alt through, and if they aren't the typical "fetch 5 frog leg" quests. Questing allows a player to gain experience doing activities other than killing npc monsters. Nothing wrong if folks want to do shuttle, escort, crafting etc quests in addition to constantly killing stuff, have to grind somehow.

When I help people in RL, it's not out of the kindness of my heart, it's so they'll stop bugging me... I don't give a crap about their heartache story... why should I care about the NPCs issues, just gimme the money and XP and stfu... if they weren't so damn lazy or inept they'd do it themselves wouldn't they. Plus, I'm a hero... their problems are inconsequential... |

I have no problems with this. Nor do I have any problem with the use of macros or bots. Ultima Online was one of the greatest PvP MMORPGs ever and it uses this type of system. |

Meh call me crazy but I like to do both. I do read quest because some can be quite funny and then there are others that have a good story. But you are right in that aion has it share of canned quest but I read them anyway and try to do them all because I can't stand to open my quest log and see old quest in it that I have not finished. Most people that tend to not read quest are the one's that are in a race to max lvl, and feel they can't spare the time or effort to read. Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries... |

So basically I havent done a "sidequest" since level 11 and I made it to level 24 on about 90% grinding alone. If anything, there are too many quests."
I'm not sure why you consider this a matter of concern to you personally because you don't seem to like questing all that much. Oh wait, I see. You want to punish people who don't play the game like you do.
Well then, I'd just like to say that killing MOBS should give no XP at all, because it encourages people to bot-grind and not play the game. If you could only level by questing and some of those quests were group quests it would force people to group and stay closer to the original spirit of MMORPG's.
This would solve the bot problem for leveling. NcSoft has implemented their new anti-bot gathering strategy as well. You will get 'ore poisoning' once in a while from gathering and if you don't type in a series of random characters presented to you within a given time, you can't gather ore for an hour. I'm sure they'll do this with other rare or valuable materials (thinking Aether)
No XP for mobs and random checks for gatherers = no more bots.

I'll read the quest once, maybe twice but the third toon I make, I'm not reading that stuff, and if a game forced me too i probably wouldn't play it.
