Alright now. I've played MMO's for a few years now. Ranging from EverQuest 1, EverQuest 2, Eve, very little wow(terribad imo), guild wars and many others in between. I've had my guild wars account for 4 years and logged over 4,000 hours played.

Needless to say that I enjoyed the game at one point. Although now, after beating the story lines numerous times on many different characters. I find all that is left in this game is pvp. And lets face it, every new patch ArenaNet nerfs something or changes something that makes a new unbalanced class/build. That class/build is then abused and integrated into the "meta". Which is why i have come to call it Build Wars. Now, I've done MANY hours of pvp, all forms of pvp. GvG, HA, RA,TA,AB,JQ,FA and HB and I've noticed the same trend. Not saying I don't enjoy the pvp, because there was time that I once did.

As far as pve content in Guild Wars, I find it lacking. Which is why it was the back up game for when EverQuest servers were down for a patch or what have you. Once I quit EverQuest, It became the main game simply because there was no other game to play because i definitely wasn't going to play WoW and let the game hold my hand from Quest 1 to max level. Guild Wars has about 3 campaigns and 1 expansion all of which you can clear from start to finish in about a day or 2 with the right knowledge of the game. After that, all that's left if pvp. So the 'MMORPG' part for guild wars goes as 'Mini Multiplayer Online RPG' for me. Many players? yes. Much content? no.

I guess to get to my point. I don't understand where the hype of this game is coming from. It seems to me like people are rating concept art and not the actual game. Any good artist can draw a pretty picture. The concept of the game is good yes, but if its anything like its predecessor then the content will be short lived leaving you to pvp for 4 years until build wars 3 comes out.

Although I do plan on giving it a shot, it will be under the same circumstances as guild wars one. Something to play when Aion servers are patching.

So its wrong to hype an upcoming game when there isnt much info to go on about. But its ok to take away the hype based on information about GW1 and your preference in MMO's.

Dont you realise that its basically the same? You are also jumping to conclusions in a similar way as the ppl who hype GW2. The lack of information about GW2. So there is no reason to assume that GW2 will be more of the same for the same reason that its too early to hype GW2.

Jumping to conclusions is whats getting its hype to where it is now. The people I've talked with or just read their conversations in guild wars are already talking about what this and that in gw2 will be like and what they will do when this or that dragon is spawned etc. In my opinion. I don't think the new features deserve the hype its getting because all of it has been done before...

Not trying to say I don't like the concept of the game. I'm just saying I couldn't rate a trailer full of screen shots as 8+. People will rate based on what they feel the game deserves to be rated. I'm just having a hard time finding a logical way to explain the rating of pictures rather than in-game footage and the like.

my understanding is its guildwars in an open world, that alone has people hyped.guild wars is a good game, its downfall is there is no open world, gw2 fixes this.

Exactly. The only qualm I ever had with GW was that it was linear and heavily instanced. I refuse to play a game that calls itself a MMO but is anything but. GW2 will hopefully fix that as they have said they will and I will definitely give it a try. Right now, I am excited for it.

I guess so. Open world HAS been done before though. There for, once again in my opinion, doesn't justify its current rating. Maybe once some in game footage has been released it will prove deserving of its hype. Until then, lots of games have nice concept art, and I can't begin to tell you how many dragons I've killed.

mm ,i played it too if you dont like story in pve world then yes this game can be short indead youi can reach max level in a mather of hour so you ask youir self whatelse is there

sorry cant help you with that its your view

as for pvp ,its one of the best out there yes nerf and op are annoying but its very hard to balance a game that popular

the only game that dont get nerrf and un-nerf are game just some specific crowd play

for the rest of you ,if you dont try to skip everything there is to skip in the game, then you ll be playing a long while in the first game alone

there are the other 3

so when you do al campaign you ll have achieve a lot of you dont skip content

there are lot of hidden place in this game for those that dont know

and the best part if you join pvp ,the sell pvp pack so you dont have to farm all those skil and elite skill

so you can do your build on the fly

eq1 and eq2 are great game yes i love that game im noob in there right now started 2 week ago

that being said guild wars is popular  check on xfire its gona give you an idea

eq2 does good ,but they cant compare to guild wars in term of popularity

eq2 is a better game then most out there, but it never caught

yes we know they started on shaky start hell my computer was just recently supported so i could play too

but now eq2 works on way more system then before

but in my view its an adult game

AND GOTHIC TO THE MAX

if some of you love gothic men this game is for you some city like free port ouch

i m just at the entrence from noob zone it that place look like too many gnome were blasted to bits

it give an evil vibe i  have yet  to see in other game

ps :but gw is a great game (personally i love the first best)

when its released you get rating.

I think you misunderstand the whole concept of hype, it’s all about the possibility, and at the moment Guild Wars 2 looks very promising indeed. Sure it can’t justify its hype but that’s only because it hasn’t been released yet. When it’s released it will receive a rating, in which case you are free reign to rant till your heart’s content about how unjustified it may or may not be. I think that is where the biggest problem of this post is, I don’t think you really understand the difference between a “rating” and “hype”.

I’m also a little bit confused about your argument as to lack of content in guild wars the original; you yourself said you had racked up over four thousand hours of gameplay. I’m sorry, but personally I think that speaks volumes about a game that has a heap of content. Sure the main story may be linear but that doesn’t mean that playing the main storyline is all you can do, and I hardly think anyone could clear all three factions and the expansion in two days…let alone one.

Sorry, got a little sidetracked. The thing is, the Guild Wars 2 trailer was, simply put, amazing, and that’s where a lot of this hype stems from. There was a very clever integration of concept art and in game footage which really blew many away. Compare the cataclysm trailer (which may or may not be a better game) with the Guild Wars 2 trailer and you get what I mean. They seriously put a huge amount of effort into it, just with the pace of the editing and music, you really get a feel as to the epic quality of Guild Wars 2.

pve content lacking?

it had great missions. even tho storyline was a little lame, it offered some great challenges that were interesting to play.

most of the dungeons/instances in other games cant do the same...

it also had random standart quests that every mmo have. there were plenty of them...

and if you are into repeatable stuff you could farm etc.

what else do you really need? what other mmos have that GW doesnt in pve? free exploration is the only thing i can think of.

as for pvp its not really as bad as you say. while some stuff has some 'cheap potential' its only, because lets face it - majority of pvpers in every game cant really compete with even a slight imbalance which can be countered by another imbalanced thus in the end everything is balanced.

good balanced teams have always found ways to overcome anything that is thrown at them.

i know what im talking about, because some time ago i had a chance to play in top100 guild for some time and saw the game from the different perspective than most. your 'build of the week' isnt instant win as you make it look.

however i dont think build wars is what the game is all about. its only 30% of it. strategy, tactics, builds etc... its great. i dont think any game has so much possibilities like GW. everything else is coordination between team members and skill.

i have no doubt that GW2 will offer all what i said in this post... AND MORE. what does that mean? its goin to be succesful.

My words are not here to sway you, they are here to make you understand.

9/17/09 7:42:26 AM#13

Open world has been done before but has it been done in Guild Wars? No... the reason why people are hyped is (1. they believe that GW1 with an open world (inlcuding jumping aaaand swimming) will be totally awesome (2. because GW1 was a great game no matter how you slice it.  And to the OP I dont think you can finish GW Prophecies in a day or two including sub - missions but maybe excluding submissions and I'm pretty sure that's the same for most games.

This is not a game.

yep first time i saw the top dog in gw duke it out i was like wtf is this an evolved version of chess

i went it looked easy till you finally understood what they were doing

they dont go there just to fight they go there to often test some of the most ridiculous build

like one time all necro team lol

they wrok very hard to find a proper build once they find what they needed they move on they got from 5 to 10 different build at any given time and randomly choose wich to play

if those team from guild wars shows up in aion ,good luck trying to win cuase those guys have been doing strat in gw for years for some lot left but still play together in other game

and a game like aion probably make em salivate right about now

MMO's are the ark of the gaming world. let it take us in new directions

Some of you guys are sounding as if you've never seen the Guild Wars 2 trailer that was put up a little while back. The trailer wasn't just artwork and a few screenshots it gave alot more info than that. It started off with cleverly animated artwork and then went into gameplay footage(not screenshots). It depicted HUGE cities, swiming, jumping, open world, and a plethora of new races to play around with. It didn't show game mechanics but it showed what we can expect both graphic wise and concept wise. It gave alot more info than some people see right off hand. It definitely gave some insight to the GW2 story and some other lore.

Why all the hype?

Open world, Playable Races(something that was absent form GW1 and the expansions), New Content(armors) , less instancing, event system, new graphics(of course), the companion system that is to replace the hero system in GW1-EOTN, the PvP(that has yet to be discussed in complete detail unless i've missed some press release somewhere), and a dynamic day and night system(which could make for some interesting time based quests).

Also it's a sequal that's retaining the original flavor of guild wars. The game still looks and feels like guild wars even with the open world aspect applied to it. Guild Wars has always been one of the least "Korean" feeling Korean MMO's in my opinion. I didn't ever feel like I was playing an asian game whenever I played GW. Also some people are calling it the WoW killer. That word has been used so many times it should be included in the Webster dictionary. If you want my opinion on that here it is: Arenanet is like Nintendo(and the Wii). They're not necessarily trying to compete with anyone. They're not spending all their time concentrating on ways to bring down WoW. They're just doing what they want to do with their game. And as a direct result people like it. The same way that Nintendo isn't concentrating on beating microsoft or sony the way that sony and MSoft are concentrating on one another...they're just doing their own thing. As a result the Wii is in its own league. It is the top selling game system in the console market. Guild Wars isnt the top selling MMO(that's still WoW of course), but they still retain that care-less attitude in my opinion. That's why it's possible to hype GW2 so much. Because it's not trying to directly compete with anything. It's loyal fanbase is already excited for the game and has been waiting quite some time to see some info. The trailer was just NCSoft and Anet's way of giving us ice cream and cake instead of just a cupcake :)

MMO's are the ark of the gaming world. Let it take us in new directions.

one problem his question is genuine lot of those guys never saw a char invade the city

most of the stuff in gw2 trailler show stuff you have to have seen in the game

hell do you recall one of the first quest you get an item we all wondered in the freaking game for a lot time what that item was for

surprise in eye of the north we finally see what the whole thing was

but if you never played or if you played but skipped lot of lore stuff you never saw all those small thing that

made gw1  special

as for the previous poster

true gw might not be first but its a freaking big second tho

I agree with much of what you said in that this game deserves the hype because Arenanet is doing their own thing and making a game for the love of gaming. That is, in fact, why the people in Anet left Blizzard. But...they are not Koreans. NCSoft is, but the developers and designers are from Arenanet, which is not in Korea. I just thought you would like to know that.

yep the one big reason why most of us over say the name arenanet is because that game was made and thot in america

its not a korean  thing

yes ncsoft was sketish of arenanet plan but ncsoft opened the door to arenaet an inch and guild wars is the result

now arenanet has the full backing of ncsoft

so much in fact that the boss of the new ncwest is the boss of arenanet(guildwars)

so futur is looking good on that side

if ncsoft doesnt shorten the leach like they tend to do

my understanding is its guildwars in an open world, that alone has people hyped.guild wars is a good game, its downfall is there is no open world, gw2 fixes this.

Exactly. The only qualm I ever had with GW was that it was linear and heavily instanced. I refuse to play a game that calls itself a MMO but is anything but. GW2 will hopefully fix that as they have said they will and I will definitely give it a try. Right now, I am excited for it.

so had they not claimed to be an mmo you would have played and enjoyed the game.

GW1 has never claimed to be an mmo, they have stood by their definition of GW as a COrpg. co-operative rpg . Only players still persist in the debate of calling  GW a mmo, when Anet themselves deny that definition of their game.  Go and enjoy GW 1 now before the release of GW2

P.S i get the hype, for the same reason, making GW open world.
