Same here. The difference between us though is that you wanna escape into a Disney movie while i wanna go into a dark, mature and sexy sci-fi world.
This game is for kids. Very young kids. Like 3 years old perhaps.
Because that worked for AoC right? I'm 21, I still watch cartoons that come on TV, I guess I'm a 3 year old. |

My only complaint is about the character models, which I think are awful, but one of the devs said in one of the many art/graphics threads that they are indeed NOT the final models, as suspected. |

In a perfect world I'd love to have an mmo with Mass Effect graphics. Not happening unless Bioware wants to limit their sales to players with supercomputers. :p |

I find that the more a company tries to make a game look realistic, the more I find myself disatisfied with the graphics. Not because I wouldn't love to have a game that looked realistic. Simply because games that try to look realistic just make me notice the imperfections and the unrealistic aspects. Games that are designed to be more like cartoons don't have that same effect. It's cartoon-like so I just accept the graphics more. Realism would be great but it would have to be perfect. Plus I'd need to sell our house to afford a machine to run it. |

It looks pretty good to me. you know this comment is so freaking funny. So i take it that when new MMOs come out its graphics that is the overall important aspect of a game, not content or information? Why is it certain people has to have everything so dam perfect now these days? The smart thing to do and that is what BW is doing to compete with Blizzard is making the graphics so everyone can and would be able to run it on their computer like the OP said at the beginning of this thread. As for me graphics is important but not my deciding factor in choosing a game, i go with content and all the information first then go with graphics. But this is MY opinion and everyone else has theirs. |

How popular do you think Modern Warfare 2 would be with WOW graphics? I rest my case.

You miss the point, when CoD4 released the graphics were sick, it's been 2 years since release. Compared to other "realistic" games it now looks old. While a game that uses a cartoon, almost timeless artwork can live on for years. If you wanna take your retarded argument further. Look at Battlefield Heroes.

So CoD4 "looks old" but you still think that MMOs like Fallen Earth and Darkfall have OK graphics?
I know good graphics is something unbelivable for you MMO kids who play WOW right now, but for us who have played online shooters for more than a decade we know that good graphics are coming along nicely in the rest of the computer business. We dont always ask for it, but its there with almost every new game anyway. Its called progress! Its one of those things that makes a game sell no matter how hard that makes you cry. Kids can stand cartoons and still feel immersed, but for us old farts we just need a little bit more to get off. If it looks like shit, and smells like shit.... well..... |

Sorry but I like the graphics, and yes graphics don't make the game, or companies like working designs would never have made some of the best games of all time cause their graphics were sucky as hell. The core of a game makes it good or not if your looking for only pretty there are plenty of games out there for you. Now the game to me looks like it should, to me it looks like Clone Wars off cartoon network and for some reason they feels right to me. They have listened to the player base when we complained on graphics that we didn't like as a whole, so if you feel your in the majority hating on how the game looks, your sadly mistaken. |

Personally the graphics are the largest hangup I have for trying this game. Just the direction in general seems more toward a WoW-vibe - which after 4 years of 'cartoony' I'm just a little bored of it :/. Basically you love it or hate it, but there are plenty of games around now that have 'better' graphics. Also note that their focus on story (& hopefully gameplay) probably took all the time devs normally take for graphics (like maybe funcom did? though I don't know, lol). I won't fault the game for me hating its art direction, but every game has it's "fatal" flaw to each person :) So yes OP, I agree - sub par (but for a reason, I hope). |

I think it's to cartoony looking. I just hope that isn't how it looks in the end.

You know... at first i had a problem with the style for TOR as well. But then i replayed both KOTOR 1 and 2 and saw why they chose this art style. |

Personally, I don't think the graphics look nearly as good as the other MMOs in developement. Even a game like Jumpgate Evolution that will run on my 10 year old PC has better graphics IMO.
But just go over to Infinity or STO to see the kind of graphics a space game should have. If you want realism go Infinity, if you want fantastical, go STO.
But whatever, people aren't looking at SWTOR for the graphics, they want to be told a story with VOs and ahve a lot of traditional RPG aspects... |

I don't know his reason but I have a few. Most star wars games really never looked realistic. The art styles have always been about mid, ToR is breaking away from that a bit. This art style looks good, it's colorful, not bland. It will look great for many years, even when the "next-gen" rolls around. The other reason being it's probably not to stressful for you PC to run. Kinda like WoW. It will run on older machines, this does not force people to upgrade to play. Actually that's one of the reasons I refused to play Conan at the time, I didn't feel like upgrading, I can run it now, but back then, WoW kept me happy and ran fine. Keeping the range of possible subscribers in a wide range is a good idea. When the game is finished and released don't judge the graphics judge how smooth everything falls into place, from animations to lighting, everything. The art style looks different I'll give you that, but it may flow perfectly in the end. |
