It's usually a keylogger, I'd run a Spybot Search&Destroy scan ASAP then change account details if I were you. |

The ingame system message on logon warns of this and similer scams. Chances are if they have your email, then your security is already compromised in some way. You need to immediately disinfect your computer and change all personal details on your WoW account. You should also send a message to Blizz detailing exactly what's happened and what steps you are taking, so that can flag your account for additional monitering and reccommend further action. As I've pointed out, they already have your email address, it's reasonable to assume they may already have more, you should be viewing this as a very serious security threat. Active: WoW, DDO: EU Semi-retired: Darkfall, STO, EvE Fully retired: UO, EQ, AC, SWG, FFXI, DDO:SR, PoTBS, AoC Tried: EQ2, Tabula Rasa, Auto-Assault, Isteria, LotRO, Wizard 101 |

It's a phish. Report it to Blizzard and run a spyware/bot removing program. If you haven't clicked anything in the email, gone to any of the websites mentioned in it, you should be ok but run an anti virus and bot program anyway. |

The email was sent from: thecataclysmbeta@blizzard.com This is the whole email: World of Warcraft: The Cataclysm Beta You have been selected to participate in the alpha test of World of Warcraft®: The Cataclysm. Welcome! In the alpha test you'll get an opportunity to test the first zones of the new The Cataclysm zone, and the new levels above 80. Troubleshooting: If you experience any difficulties installing the alpha game client, or have problems connecting to the test realms, please contact Technical Support either by posting on the appropriate forum at World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums -> Please remember that this software is still undergoing development, so any in-game issues should be reported using the /bug feature

Do a scan fast because it looks like the standard keylogger form that affected many players on WoW forums as well. |

Why would it state WoW Cataclism Beta then start talking about Alpha testing? |

Even if it doesn't have a keylogger, then it will at least e-mail your account details to account stealers. Also, do you really think Blizzard can't afford a domain and must resort to free hosting domains? Nah. |

Alphas are always internal testing or friends and family of the employees, regular players will NEVER be invited to alpha tests. Blizzard will ofc have an invite only beta without a NDA (as it should be for all mmos) in the future but they will publicly announce it. Any kind of Beta for cata is atleast 6 months away.. we got Starcraft 2 beta first.. YUMMIE!!! |

It is not real. Never ever ever ever click a link in any of those "official" looking emails. They look real good, but treat every single email as a virus. Never click, no matter how well versed you think you are with computers. Do not do it. If you simply have to know then just call blizzard.
However, Blizzard has already said in the news when you log into the game that they are not sending out emails with alpha access.
Not that they would invite random people to alpha testing. The first phase of beta you could hope to get into is friends/family and that has not started yet or I would already be testing.

Originally posted by Daffid011 I think they are pretty script kiddish and you don't need more than a good antivirus/firewall program+possibly NoScript to click them without problems. The thing is, there are many new WoW players who aren't familiar with how internetz works(and that's pretty normal), making WoW a huge target for our buddies over here. |
