Funny you say that.  My younger sister used to play WoW and GW, and all of her toons were male, for that very reason.  She said she got sick of all the nerds hitting on her, and it was harder for them to act like then when her toon was a male tauren. 

Besides, the idea that a forced-pvp game will draw women just because they can be 'pretty' characters...yeah, sure.

It won't change the overall numbers that much but I'd be willing to bet in terms of the population of women/girls that game, Aion will hit a good portion of that player base.  The fact is that most women in the western world just aren't interested in gaming and those that are usually haven't gotten into MMOs.  But that's also changing with gaming getting more and more into the mainstream and media like G4 having alot of female reporters/hosts, movies that are now motivated by games or games by movies, and how much the gaming industry as a whole is rising up the ladder as a revenue generating machine.

As shallow as some girls are, this does not offer things many girls who are not mainstream gamers want.  Yes, the graphics are great and the avatars can look very pretty.  But that's it.  Your normal gamer girl, this is just another mmo, and if they like this type, they will play it.  A girl who has not played an mmo before, may look or try Aion at a friends, but most likely won't be interested, especially since this game lends it self to being a rush to the end, and not about the journey, or being able to do anything else in the game, but grind/quest/level.

In other words it's not the Sims or Kingdom Hearts. ;)  Well I have hope that women will get beyond that.

After reading 15 pages of this thread I have a couple views on the subject.

1.) I love the idea of playing games with women, it adds a new element and "Some"times promotes people to attack a little more mature.

2.) A lot of guys in this thread have insecurities about the opposing gender resulting in attempted insults about their ability to function in a game. I have played with both good and bad female pvpers. Who cares? Are you really going to play the girls are icky card?

Well they mislead with headlines like that... a BRUTAL rapist is worse than a kind, gentle and caring rapist... cause you know, it's all about tact.

I dont feel as if I targeted any specific individuals so I presume by your lashing out you're one of the guys who still hides in the closet ? No I apologize as I have never seen Brokeback Mountain and personally do not care to. I'm sure the movie is great as it did win awards but still not my cup of tea as I personally cant relate interest to the content.

Often those stories, whenever I read them, have some sort of frightening yet compassionate side of these brutal rapists in the story

Actually you are correct.  I remember an interview on G4 TV with an Aion art director and he was asked why the characters were so feminine and pretty looking.  The answer was interesting.

He first said the obvious by stating such is normal in Asia, but then when prompted as to why the game's look wasn't updated to the western norm he said to the effect of, "Because the anime genre has shown us that such characters are extremely popular, expecially with female audiences." (paraphrased)

It would seem this strategy is working, for Aion does have a large female following.  Only time and subs will tell here, but things do look good in this regard.

It's a simple fact, girls like to be pretty, even when they are trying to crush you into the ground.  And if they get to crush a pretty guy into the dirt, then it is even more fun.

More people should be like me... every girl I date is playing console games by the end of the week and MMO's by the end of the month. I'm good for the MMO business I think.

I'm really looking forward to Aion, and I do not appreciate all the stereotyping of women that is going on here. I've played MMOs for a while, and I throughly enjoy them. I'm not talking about "playing dress-up", I'm talking about actually playing the game. There are a lot of women who can, and will, kill you in PvP. There are a lot of men who can also. There is no difference between the genders when it comes to playing a game, the only thing that's different is the skill level of the players. Women aren't any better or worse at gaming than men, nor should they be any less welcome into the games.

As for Aion reason why its probably picking up on half the female population that plays MMO is because of the PvP not due to being sexy or whatever. Yes females cause drama. I don't know how many guilds I was in cause older women picked fights with me cause I'm in a younger generation then they are. Heck I even had a women in her early 30's pushed me from the guild she was leading cause she was afraid of some 18 year old kid that hitted on her a lot would turn from her. All I'm saying you can't sit there and say your the best and such because of what sex you are. Its more about the maturity of things not because we want to make head turns.

I play female characters because they're beautiful and I enjoy beautiful things although I do have a sexist classification mentality in the way that if I role a healer it's female, rangers are male, tanks are male and assassins are female. I have never rolled a caster really but the ones I did role were female. Then again it might not even be "sexist" but a preference for appearence with certain playstyles. Either way love you! keep playing. Where a lot of these nerds enjoy sausage fests I on the other hand do not.
