I signed up at MMORPG.com back in like 2004 or 2005. My first account was banned sometime last year (or the year before?) when the mods here were pretty much the worst Forum Nazis I've ever seen. Hopefully, they've changed and grew up a bit. They also had recently enlisted about 15 new mods, so that might have been the problem too. I won't be back, I moved on a long time ago.
Anyway, pull this up www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/show/released Throw a dart, and if that dart landed on a game that was either in beta before 2007 or released before 2007... I have played it. Not only have I played it, but I spent more than 12hrs in the game. With a few exceptions (Furcadia comes to mind, lol. 5min "WTF?" uninstall).
Now, lets get to Fallen Earth. Absolutely a beautiful game in almost every way. The engine is a bit outdated, but that's ok. FE started development around 2005ish and they built the engine from the ground up. Meaning, they have absolute full control of everything and could rebuild it to update with the times, later on. They used what they had, and released a great game with a few bugs. But, if you can look past that and know that they will be fixed you just have to give them time, it's not that big of a deal. It'll piss you off every once and awhile, but at least they care about the game like a baby. Blizzard on the other hand, treats WoW like it's performing monkey child. (See: Micheal Jackson & the Jackson 5 for more info)
I have to say, I have been extremely impressed with Fallen Earth. That's a rare thing for me, not many games impress me at all, but this one has. The character progression is amazing, the combat is amazing, and the possibility for expansion is beyond comprehension. The only game I have ever enjoyed nearly as much as this game was UO when I first started playing MMOs and maybe SWG, but I caught the tail end of that before NGE and completely missed Pre-CU due to some misconceptions I had about the game after it's release and horrible reviews.
I could go into alot deeper detail. But I won't, this is enough text as it is. Me telling you the goods and the bads of this game isn't going to sway you either way. It's a great game, just leave it at that.
Just look at it this way. If you enjoyed EVE, UO, SWG, or anything like those and you got $50 in your pocket. Pick up Fallen Earth and give it a shot. Once you get passed the learning curve in the first 5 levels. You won't be sorry. I promise you that.
Like many of you, I spent alot of time jumping from game to game to game. Looking to recapture that feeling I got in the early days of MMOs. I have found my home here on Fallen Earth. And I will be here for awhile.
PS: These new forums suck. I miss the old modified PHPBB ones.
Edit: Found my old profile. Wow, I made some retarded posts. No wonder I got banned, lol. Anyway Member since March 26, 2004 Last Visit: May 15, 2008 |

I couldn't agree with you more, I haven't been this into a game in a loooong time. I hop from game to game as well getting more and more as I go. I've played WoW, Eve, LOTRO, CoH, CoV, EQ2, War, UO, AoC, and a handful of others I know I'm forgetting, but nothing has engrossed me in the gameplay like this game has. I don't really even notice that the graphics are not the best thing out there, not saying they are bad because they are not by any means. It is well worth the $50 bucks I spent, I have a feeling this game will keep me interested for a long while. |

Yep this is the game man...the so called mmos that are coming out are a sample copy of the same major mmo, only a game like fallen earth can stand out as a reall mmo, and a fresh new experience in this genre |

"Damn i threw the dart and i had to replace my screen..." :P Anyway i hope your comments are not based on the fact that this game is something new, and gets you hyped for that reason. I'd like to wait for a while before judgjing a game. 'Cause most of the times i too have made this mistake and ended up changing games several times. I myself hope this game really brings something new to the concept of mmorpg/mmoofps's. So i guess i'll be in the shadows watching how this game develops in time, content-wise and community-wise. There is Strength in numbers!!! |

The thing that gets me about this game, is I'm a hardcore PVPer and I'm not a big fan of PVE. But for some odd reason, I actually really really enjoy questing in this game. I can't tell you why, because I can't figure out why. Even in games where I enjoyed PVE, I've still hated questing with a passion and I've seen it as the bane of the MMO market and something that's needs to be seriously fixed and completely rethought. But somehow, in FE they have made it to where questing is actually enjoyable and makes me want to do it. I don't really read much into lore, but the quests are VERY well written.... all of them. They also aren't doin anything new, the same ol' same ol' "Go here kill this, go there kill that, give me these" but they do it differently somehow and I really just can't put my finger on it. The only thing that I can really begin to put my finger on is, is the fact that a quest in FE isn't really a quest. 99/100 it's a chain of quests, each one leading you into another progression of the storyline, usually with the end result being very very rewarding. Even though I don't read the text they put up half the time, I get a good feeling of accomplishment and enjoyment. Other games have had chain quests, that's nothing new. But the way they handle it, it kinda is. |

Hello, I really dont post much on any forums, actually this is my first post here in MMORPG.com forums and yes I am also an old member as you can see. Needless to say I have played about everything there is, at least bigger titles. I feel that most of what "TheHatter" have said is true for me aswell, this is the reason why I decided to respond. I follow some threads here and some threads there, you cant avoid reading some Aion thread, I dont dare writhing anything in there. Ha ha....... I already know what the answer(troll or wowfanboy) would be so there is no point. I dont have anything special to say about FE either then that I am looking forward playing it. I have not played it at all yet but this is the game I will play next and yes I am sure it will be the game I am looking for and I will love it. Feeling even more confident after reading what some of you have said. So see you in Grand Canyon Year 2156, I wont be playing until mid/end Oktober thou since I am waiting for the game to stabilize lagvise etc.

"I myself hope this game really brings something new to the concept of mmorpg/mmoofps's. " I dont know about something new, but they have managed to capture something that many MMO's have lost. I think in the rush to catch onto WOW's massive numbers too many MMO's have emulated it. WOW is a good game, but its the kiddie pool, FE is the deep end. The game doesnt give you any easy answers, it doesnt punish you for not wearing uber item X, it doesnt try to direct you at all. It just presents you with a world and leaves it up to you what you do in it. |

It is hard to describe what it really is that makes the game so fun. As you say, the graphics aren't great, but they do give you a good idea of what's happening. The movement system is pretty basic and the camera could be improved. The action bar, on the other hand, is pretty goddamn complex. I have 3 full bars that I use on a regular basis. I have the first 1/= filled with my melee skills, stuns/debuffs/etc., while the second bar alt-1/= is for mutations, then the third, shift-1/= is for healing abilities. Then I have 3 more bars, 1 for self-buffs, another for group buffs, and then miscellaneous skills such as speed buffs, revive, etc. With that in mind, combat is quick and you have to keep moving and aiming, while at the same time, trying to use all your skills and healing. Can get pretty intense and complicated. The people more comfortable with it or who have specialized keyboards, like the Nostromo, are going to have an advantage over the neophytes and such. For me, the quests are pretty run of the mill, but they reward you fairly well and logically. They guide you through how to scavenge and how to craft, rewarding you with recipe books, armor, weapons, etc. There's the unknown of what is the 'uber' build, with some crying for the ability to 'respec' in case they get their characters wrong, but the cool thing is, there is no wrong build, and you get an idea pretty quick of what you want and where you want to put your points. I /love/ the size of the world and how it takes forever to travel from one end to the other. Most of all, I like that the game discourages the 'WoW kiddies' from playing. And while I use the term disparagingly, I do find that WoW tends to attract the 'give it to me now' mentality, which is not present in the game. You have to think and you have to work for everything. The community is mature and excellent so far. |

Good posts from several folks who seem to like the game (a rarity these days) and they increased my interest a bit. Currently engaged in two other MMO's (bet you can guess one of them) so no time for this one, but if it manages to thrive I'm sure I'll give it a try during one of my slack times in the coming year.

I'm glad to hear some positive comments from people who haven't played the game yet. Hopefully, I helped at least one person look at it in a different light. If you're interested then, don't make the mistake I did with SWG and play at the end and get it while it's golden. I don't think FE will end up like SWG because it's an indy game and doesn't have suits dictating what should and shouldn't be done, but still... you never know what's going to happen to an MMO. |

"you never know what's going to happen to an MMO." Sad but true. There has been a lot of positive player buzz about FE so I'm sure the big boys are sniffing around. We all know what happens to small dev companies that are talented, passionate and have a good product...EA or SOE or Blizzard etc gobbles them up. |

Agreed, FE is an absolute blast. My wife and I can't stop playing it, and it really harkens back to the early days of SWG when it was actually a world to explore. That said, the game certainly isn't for everyone. It refuses to hold your hand and there are a huge number of options in terms of progressing and equipping your character. Aside from EVE, it's easily the deepest game on the market. Yes there are bugs, the combat is a little clunkier than I'd like, and it lacks a couple of fluff-type features that I feel would make it the ultimate sandbox, but overall it has reinvigorated my mmo passion. I hope it gets enough financial support to continue for many years, and I look forward to seeing what the Icarus devs come up with next. |

CCP isn't independent anymore.... DB Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is. |

Didn't they merge with White Wolf, but with one of those mergers that basically kept them as 2 separate companies still?
I've been out of the game for awhile. |

I found FE to be very CoH/CoV -ish , ran up onto this fenced area with run down houses and whatnot. Had to kill a named, he looked the same as the other 100 characters in the area. Unimpressed with the game and I had high hopes :| |

Originally posted by TheHatter They did, but it was more as a synergy than takeover. White Wolf doesn't dictate like EA, SOE or Activision would. I believe the merger enable CCP to get access to the WoD RGP and to allow White Wolf to make a pen and paper EVE.

Actually CCP owns White Wolf, not the other way around. The EVE guys call the shots. |

I'm sorry, but you have either not played CoH/CoV very much either/or not played Fallen Earth very much. I've heard alot of comparisons with FE and I've never seen that one before. I've played both. If I was to go out on a limb, I would have to say you haven't tried FE till even the 5th level as you're not going to get any decent mutations till around 15 at minimum. And even there, the mutations really don't resemble CoH/CoV at all. Unless you were comparing it with some other part of the game play? In which case, I have no idea what you're talking about. Mechanically & Visually, they are worlds apart. Also, Named Mobs don't drop "phat loot" that type of gameplay doesn't exist in FE. Sorry, if that's not your playstyle, but it works well in FE. Named Mobs also are usually 2-3 times the size of the other mobs in the area and sometimes have slightly different skins. But, if that's your kind of gameplay, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's just that FE isn't your kind of game. |
