So I have started to see what many people have been saying about this game.  Just recently, "This Game Sucks" and "Aion=Migets Online".  It's just sad really, I got sucked in by the graphics.  But, there's absolutely nothing special about this game.  I've now tried every class, gotten each to at least level 10.  And not one of them seemed appealing at that point.  It's the quests.  It's the combat.  They're completely second rate.  Not engaging or immersive.  Not only that, but the community isn't great either.  Granted I've seen worse people, but making suggestions to those lore craving lunatics is not a smart choice.  And speaking of Lore, what the hell?  I'm sorry is there some book I'm supposed to have read because apparently I'm the only one that doesn't understand the "lore".  Anyway rant is over, that's about as much time as I'm going to spend dissing this game.

John Romero is about to make you his bitch... Suck it down.

I'll add this one bit before the flamers get here:

Aion definitely does not offer nearly enough new content for me to consider investing my $50 + monthly fee into it. To be honest, this game gave me the same vibe as LotRO did back in the day - it does everything that it does with an acceptable amount of polish, but the content is just "blah." And, to be even more honest, I find that, unlike what most people say (WoW comparisons run rampant), this game is more or less a souped of version of Lineage 2, with a few NPC quests thrown in to spice up the PvE leveling.

I didn't find anything special when I played in the CB, or in the OB. It begs the question: when will MMOs start to move away from the fantasy, swords and elves and magic stuff to different venues. Slightly unrelated, but just another major concern of mine; it gave this game another "blah" feeling to it - a "move along, nothing to see here" kind of feeling.

I personally don't see the point in paying for this title when I can get the same thing from other games that I already own, like WoW, LotRO, L2, etc. That's just my $0.02.

Exactly.  Same exact feeling and situation almost.  Questing was done so lazily that it is completely mirrored by the opposing faction.  I mean I understand how that can be useful, but it adds nothing fresh to the already dumbed down, kill this many of this creature template.  When are we going to see games that have engaging gameplay.  There's nothing engaging about Aion at all.  Combat, man don't even get me started.  The combat is so clunky.  I mean it's nothing, but spam your opening attack (because it doesn't start right away) because if you don't, the pre-emptive attack creature will attack you before you can it.  I mean I try and bring things like this up on their forums and people come in and say "Working as intended".  If that's the case, there is no point in me playing.

Preordering an MMO (or worse, getting a lifetime subscription for it) is the stupidest thing a man could do. Well, hopefully you learned something from this.

The way this game is going you either will love it or hate it. Yeah you tried it it wasn't for you so yeah i respect that there's allot of other titles out there that are more established that you own so save you some money and stick with those.

I think what allot of people who tried this out where expecting the next big thing and were upset to see it was just another mmo, a solid mmo i might add but nothing new.

just cancel your preorder if you don't like the game. i think the problem lately is everyone is preordering the game just to try it out. and then they play it and feel like they were tricked into buying it. you couldve waited until open beta or even buddy ppasses/trial accounts when they become available.  I've never bought an mmo that i didn't like, except lotro, and that was only because my good friend plays it and has a lifetime account and refuses to play anything else. Anyway I was the opposite I got into the closed beta and I preordered it later on because i liked it. I really don't understand all the midgit hate either, it's basicly a gnome or dwarf which most other fantasy games have. Look at a tauren and a gnome standing side by side its almost the same. Aion might be slightly smaller and bigger, but i think its awesome to have the ammount of freedom in character customization this game gives us.

There are some games where I would agree with that (Darkfall, Mortal online, etc) however, games that have free weekends, and easy access to try before you buy (every mmo other than indy in the past 3 years AoC, Tabula Rasa, WAR, LOTRO, etc etc etc) then pre-ordering isnt a bad thing.

Few things.

  1. The community you are playing with right now isnt the aion community, its mmo community thats looking for a new game. Some of them will stick around, but they are not all aion players. The Aion community wont appear for a few weeks down the road from launch as people come and go etc .
  2. Playing all the classes to level 10, is very similar to playing 3 of the classes to level 10, as in to say they are absolutely identical up until 10, and pretty damn similar till their late teens / early 20's. Aion for good or bad, holds a lot of the goodies till later game. For some this is nice as they get new toys towards end game and get to look forward to them, for others its a turn off as they have to wait to get what they want.
  3. The lore, its different in Aion. Basically most MMO people dont give a rats ass about lore, they dont read quests, they just level and move on. Due to this Aion devs tried something a bit new and gave the lore in cut scenes and bits and pieces as you go, so at first you are a bit confused (similar to a movie) and over time you get more and more pieces and it starts to make more sense.
  4. Immersion... I dunno I actually found Aion very immersive. They have a lot of little small things that make it feel more real, for instance, if it rains your toon covers their head with a giant leaf, if they are in the krull desert they fan themselves to stay cool. Small things like that make it feel "more real" at least for me.

However, like it or not like it, its all an opinion, and what you love I might hate and vise versa. In a few weeks we will all know if Aion is going to be the next big thing, a hit, a sputter, or a tabula rasa.

Lol - read the title and I have to say I have the same thought.

But... I did pre-order even after extensive research.  It looked like a good alternative.. to keep me busy I guess.  Now.. I'm not sure if I'll even play :-/

The problem most of the time is, that the first 10-20 levels are completely different from the rest of the game.. and in one weekend or even few weeks it's hard or even impossible to get to that point and see what the rest of the game is about.

I was just expecting another one, but a different one in the sense of, its a different game. That and the PvP for me is the big push, I can still remember the first night when I got jumped by Elyos, and the call rang out in region, I hunted them for hours, rifted for hours, had a blast, but even more than that, the whole enemy aspect was really there. From that point on was always aware of my surroundings, which is right there a lot more than most games for me, it felt, and feels right now, like, the war is on!

I do feel, like if you don't breach this aspect of the game, you are missing the main meat of the game, but that being said, if the feel of the game in general isn't appealing, or the basic game play isn't enjoyable for you, then that's understandable, and gl finding something that will!

Honestly, Aion is a breathe of fresh air for me.  I like the quest paths, the ability to skip them if you don't like them. How you can finish them quickly and the built in quest helper is a great addition to any MMO. The graphic style is not everyones taste but I prefer it.  I have leveled a few to wing status, which is at first seems to be a gimick, but adds to the strategic plays in PvP. The PvP is exciting and playing with friends, the community rarely bothers me.  There is a great deal of WoW chat on regional chat, a few chucknorris jokes, and even I have told people they will find Tutty at the entrance to the DeadMines.

Ill play for a couple of months as I do all the games I try to see if it has staying power. I am enjoying it tremendously atm.

Basically as a TR sub I get this game for free and holy christ it's so boring I nearly died getting to level 2. The combat just was missing something (it just didn't feel smooth or 'right'). The quests are more generic than a green lotus and there is little for me to even consider this an average game , with only the graphics better than a F2P asian grinder what does this offer to warrant a £9 a month subscribtion fee?

It's about 3 monsters, but as the game is boring overall it's a waste of my time even if it's 1 or 1000.

LOL...had something almost just as similar happen to me when me and my buddy got jumped.  Only thing is, the tables turned on them.  Then they brought some of there buddies back to 20-30 area(forgot the name) and it was a good 1-2 hour brawl.  Didn't really get to level much, but hey I would rather have fun and not level then not have fun and level.

I have to admit the quests are pretty bland, but then again majortiy of mmo's are like that.  It's really no different here except the pvp and the little nick-nacks you can do in the game.

Remeber all games are boreing till you see the fun in them one way or another.  Either you find the fun in them or make your own.  Sometimes your lucky and the fun finds you.(like what happened to me)

Remember if you don't like a certain game just move on.

Everyone has opinions, but does that make them the universal truth??? NO!

I'm just going to copy past this, I use it for all threads with people of your breed.

"don't care about any of the people who got overly hyped just to have too high of expectations then be innevitably let down. That has got to be the stupidest hype trap on the net, and many fall for it. Honestly, I don't want such gullible ignorant masses in aion. It's like teaching a kid to chew a egg.

All I see is a bunch of bozoes spinning in circles with a bunch of ?????????????????????????? all over them. You check them to see their difficulty of persuasion without personal thought involved, and the MMORPG tells you "Easy prey""

IMO, your not cut out for aion. Actually, your just not cut out for the entertainment medium as a whole.

The OP is just another example of why PvP games will never succeed in the western market.  The majority of players who are interested in these games are simply 18-25 year old children with no patience.  They are not game players but rather they spend more time hyping and trashing games on message boards than actually playing them.  They have no patience or attention span so they want everything simple and dumbed down for them.  They want everything handed to them and will scream, cry and whine without end against having to put in any effort.  They need constant excitement and eye candy and always prefer flash over any substance.  They are the first to hype games and the first to leave when they quickly become bored.  They unwittingly do their best to destroy MMOs for real gamers.  Aion's success will be measured in the Asian markets not the fickle western market dominated by the PvP kiddie message board thugs.
