For example, if you wanted to annoy someone, send out an email or ad that you have some puppies you are going to send to the pound to be put down. And then provide the contact information of the person you want to annoy. This may not have been the case, but I have seen that played out before. And that is why... Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness. |
Originally posted by Pugla I'll vouch for supremeaaron, too. I may not agree with the way he blindly supports CME in the face of a lot of scandal, but I have never known him to lie. He honestly loves the SG IP and wants a cool game to play.
Thank you Ariccaron and Pugla. Honestly I wouldn't post anything without giving it a proper look over and thinking this would merit some looking into. I do indeed love the SG IP and want this game to be the best it can be (not the best other games can be, I hate the idea of comparing new mmos to WoW etc.) |

I think the best we can hope for is Gary calling it a day and closing down CME officialy, then having a real studio pick up the IP and develop SGW. SGW has the potential to put in place a zoning system that feels natural, similar to the early days of SWG when you had the starports to travel to planets. It's just under the leadership of Gary Whiting this game will never be the best it can be, it would be little more than a shallow one dimensional multiplayer CORPG with the one purpose of recruiting for his pyramid scheme MMOGULs. I feel alot of people have a problem differentiating between love for the SG IP and desire to play an SG MMORPG no matter what the costs. I think we should face it that CME is an unprofessional company that has been poorly managed from the start, and despite a wealth of talent still managed to make rookie mistakes that cost millions of dollars and miss milestones consistantly. There are no developers feelings to hurt now, no one "working" there is doing any real developing, just popping up on the forums once in a while to make vague promises about what coulda, shoulda, woulda happened/happen in the past/future. I salute you Aaron for having the sense to look stuff up and take an objective view on it and analyze it for what it really is. Perhaps you should convey some of these thoughts onto the official forums? Who knows it might prompt CME to actually give the fans some information that they've been waiting for, or maybe Khestral will start posting those screenies he every two weeks that he promised way back when? Although maybe it's best to just post here since they all read these forums every now and again, and people are allergic to non positive posting on the official forums. You know better than most how vicious the Wraithfull ... erm I mean faithfull can be when provoked ;)

I actually have discussed this on many places since this trouble exploded back near Christmas last year and well I say if any company would take it it would be SOE or maybe MGM will use their MGM interactive studio (I have no idea if that department at MGM is still open). |

this doesnt seem that much different from mortal onlines strategy, charge people obscene prices for a "pre order" to let them into a beta and fund your game. |

Except CME aren't doing what Mortal did since who ever had a brain at CME saw what Mortal Online did and realized it wouldn't be a smart decision to do that. |

I have to keep biting my tongue not to share what this month's news from CME before they do. What I can say is prepare to be underwhelmed and disenchanted with CME’s announcement this month. (if they get to make an announcement -- Nedra's big hearing is on Monday!!) While they will say work continues on SGW, lies. SGW is so far on the back burner with so many ‘ifs’ to make it happen. Moreover, all the real industry luminaries are no longer with CME. You will not see them bringing Chris Klug back from PA, etc. Instead they brought back the Art Director that made the horrible looking avatars for Hand Crank's prototype (digging to find my screen shots) and is now overseeing the art on SGB, etc. Why couldn’t they just promote that Jake dude? His stuff looked so much better. At current counts, the amount of administrative staff and "director" type people who collect the larger salaries (does not mean they produce work) outweighs those who can actually do any real game developmen. CME’s business plan to stay afloat is still severely flawed. |

Although I've had a boycott on all Sony products since the combat upgrade/revamp/balance if they did do a proper job and Smedley was involved in some unfortunate accident involving the life size stargate toppoling I would give it a go. I think MGM need to salvage this game as Stargate already has a shitty reputation when it comes to releasing computer games, they could turn around this bad reputation the IP has gained. There are many upsides to pulling the license then purchasing work done on the project and handing it over to a third party. SOE, despite being capable of finishing it also have a shitty reputation in the industry. If they dumped Smedley and put someone in charge who isn't afflicted with a severe case of bullshititass and cleptomania it could spell a return to past glories for SOE. Perhaps get a smaller company like FLS to do it? They're competent and can make a good game, Rusty is a little crazy but Rick Saada is still tougher than Chuck Norris and Jackie Chan combined! Whatever happens though we're gonna have to witness this train crash until the end first. I don't know what you're holding back Kyrie but it seems obvious they won't announce anything until the end of the month. Then if they do it'll be the usual vague comments that say alot about nothing and depend on the readers point of view more than fact. I should imagine they'll announce SGB in some form whilst being vague, tell us people are back and working but are as vague as usual concerning who, how many and what they are doing. Make some obligatory remarks about SGW and how they haven't forgot it and how it's still their main project (despite evidence to the contrary). It wouldn't suprise me if they planned an FPS with a monthly fee either! As for the current court case, it isn't a small time lawsuit and I don't see the plantiffs letting Gary wriggle out of this one. Both of his buisnesses (CME & MMOGULs) are up for the chop and there's not a hope in hell Gary can get any serious investor to front any cash until this case is wrapped up. At this point CME is pissing into the wind, and as you pointed out Khestral isn't helping. Fans are waiting for any kind of news with baited breath, hell they'd be happy to know what the staff had for lunch yesterday! However whenever Khestral pops up and posts it feels like he's mocking the fanbase, he makes irrelevant and silly comments which are just out of place considering the situation of CME/SGW and the fact he's a DEV posting on official forums starved of any real news for a year now! Everytime he posts it feels like he's laughing at the fans over there then slapping them in the face and getting pleasure from watching them crawl back like battered wives. I think he should either put up (some info) or shut up, the dance of the seven threads or strip tease as you put it got old along time ago and now is little more than a vulgar display of disdain towards the loyal fans. I think the FanOri are all nutjobs and need to be sectioned ASAP, but considering they've treated CME and its staff with polite respect (more than Gary ever did!) they atleast deserve better treatment.

Gary will be forced to liquidate his assets at some point in order to pay off the money he owes (bankruptcy), unless he pulls money from another source (MMOGULs?). If Whiting does pull cash from another source it would only prolong the misery anyway, CME will not/can not release SGW and they've pretty much admitted it in a rather vague round about fashion already. Whiting just wants to hold onto the license to keep his MMOGULs scam alive, when MMOGULs completely crash and burns he'll dump the license and drop CME like a bad habit. One way or the other CME will get sold off, it's just a matter of when, hopefully someone will be there to pick up the game and get it complete and negotiate a license agreement with MGM. If not then it's another Stargate Alliance.

Thats true Agricola. Gary seems to be holding CME together with promises and not results which will surely come back to haunt him. I hope Stargate Worlds doesn't fall apart like Stargate the Alliance but it's a different case (I think), I think any game development company could see the potential that the SG IP has to offer in the mmo market. |
