I finally got into the beta today and I was really surprised to find that THIS is what people have been raving about.

I'll give it two things, the game is polished and runs well, and that's probably saying a lot when compared to most MMO's, but otherwise it's really standard fare.

I'm a little shocked that the MMORPG crowd has been mostly in awe of this title, even going so far as joining the Chinese beta. For this? Really?

"Standard fare" isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's shiny and new, and at least to me and many others, a whole heck of a lot of fun, especially with the large-scale PvP that WORKS.

Seriously!? You really think people were raving about this game? I have to wonder on what sites you are getting your info. Most of the positive posts that I've seen stated that the game has solid mechanics, polished graphics, and some good pvp potential. I really haven't seen people "raving" about it, but I guess you are looking to create some drama. Actually, most positive posts are just in reaction to wildly negative posts, something I don't think this game deserves.

I like Aion, I'll play it at launch, but in no way do I believe it will save mankind from destruction and bring about world peace.

Aion is no more polished than Lotro was when it released.

Only thing different is that this game already as a nice following in Asia.

I think people Over hyped the game a bit, people are frustrated with the genre and really want a different experience than WoW gives them.

Aion isn't my type of game but I'm glad others find it fun.

To me Aion gets tossed in with the other half decent Themeparks like EQ2 and Lotro.

Well, if you were on these forums 2 months ago you might have been lead to believe that Aion was God's gift to the MMORPG world based on all the hype.

We were spammed pretty badly i'm wondering if your using the same forum as us?

I wasn't comparing the actual game mechanics just level of polish and TLC that have gone into the games as newly launched products. UNlike games like AoC, TR and WAR that released like shit.

It's not as bad now. Many of the raging fanbois have comeback to reality. Aion is a decent game and that's all, not "God's gift to the mmo genre".

Aion is a perfectly decent game.  NCSoft has put a ton of effort into Westernizing and debugging it for NA/Europe release.  It has enough complication to make gameplay interesting, and it looks gorgeous.  I think it will be a success in the Western market.

It is not tied to a well-known Western lore body or franchise like Warcraft, LOTR, Star Wars or D&D.  But it's not hard to pick up, they defintely put a lot of thought into the classes and subclasses, and it's very customizable.

On principle, I refuse to speak ill of any game that gives me a detailed dual-wielding sword class. :)

It's all about the mood, if you get someone like kilkil2 posting about Aion's endgame along with a video of his tight knit group stomping zergs, people are going to become raging fanbois, if you get level 14 skeptics posting about this game being nothing new, you'll get more moderated replies, and overaly a more moderated fanboyism everywhere.

You'll love it then once you notice 3 classes can dual wield swords, and 2 of them are actually pretty good at it.

Better than WoW or FE in my opinion. It's no EVE but it's pretty good especially in light of the current blight in good NEW mmos.
