Does it matter? Is there a competition going on? You play game X, you enjoy playing game X, does it matter what game Y is doing? |

Why does it then? I am genuinely curious on why it matters to so many people. |

Originally posted by grandpagamer Fantasy MMORPGs, as opposed to a bloody truck vs a sedan, are pretty much similar. Granted you can change something here and there, but not too much. It will still have (more or less) the same UI, the same fluffy dragons burning your ass and the same skill spammage with your keyboard/mouse while moving around, killing random mobs or players. |

I honestly don't see Aion having much more of an impact on WoW than WAR/AoC did, at least not in the west. |

No WoW-like game will ever beat WoW, or even make a real dent in its numbers. Why? People who play WoW like it, and there's no reason for them to quit WoW and go to another WoW-like game.

Originally posted by Zorndorf I will agree with the title of this thread. For the foreseeable future no game will beat WoW. Certainly not Aion, and its developers are down to earth enough to have claimed the same. I did find funny what I quoted. You see, I'm from Greece and it never crossed my mind that Darkfall should have more subscriptions than WoW in this country just because it is based here. This is a global market and good games are played from anyone that likes them, regardless of where they originate. |

Originally posted by Zorndorf Well, with all dungeon bosses like that, you sure will not be challenged. Btw: this IS the Korean style of PVE bosses. Just look at Lineage 2. Tank 'n Spank. Blizzard made an art out of PVE Raids these days. From easy to hard, but at least ... WE MOVE.
And the funny thing is, most people are spamming threads with: ZOMG WOW IS TOO EASY SO IM MOVIN TO A REAL HARD GAME LIEK AION. I honestly didn't see a boss with reactive abilties. Even Rune of Magic seems to have harder PvE. |

Originally posted by Miffin Yes because all mmo's fall to time. Having said that the biggest thing that is unique is not WoW vs. all others but next year WoW will be conceivably against several contenders and Star Wars would seem be the justified biggest threat. If you can't see where the threat is, then do your homework and don't bother trolling.
Originally posted by Xasapis Originally posted by Zorndorf Even in Korea WOW has 100 servers against 42 for Aion. And that's the HOMELAND of this Korean copycat.

As mmorpg.com staffer Richard Aihoshi already said, subscriptions don't really account for much since subscriptions DO NOT equal active members in a game. I also wouldn't be too proud about the servers in Korea given Korea (1) does have laws that allow for RMT (ask any Lineage player) and (2)RMT is as big an industry in Korea as it is in China. Only difference us you have more players in China than Korean and yea, feel free to throw in China's 1 billion plus population as a possible explanation. What I can see WoW's biggest advantage though overall is a simplified PvP system that works. And if you have to ask what I meant by "simplified", try Eve-online for 5 days and see if you survive... PvP'ing in WoW while tricky isn't as complicated and doesnt feel like rocket science as is the case in other games. |

PvP in EVE is rocket science? Ok, I'll take that but EVE and WoW got 2 different styles of PvP. EVE's based around planning at first, over ship superiority and other "pre-settings" while WoW is based around individual reactions and ability to adapt vs other abilities. It's a whole different thing. For the second type of PvP, WoW will stay as the best. Take it another way: are you sure a 3v3 of EVE players will get 2600 rating in WoW? |

There is a difference between the hype that's originated by blind fanboys claiming the next game to be released to be the WoW-killer and the company claiming the same. NCsoft so far has been pretty modest as far as Aion is concerned. By the way, this type of thread is kind of sad to respond to. Same like the threads "XX game will kill WoW" that pop up every time a game is about to enter the open beta phase. |

And then add some ... let's start: .... perfect fluid fast responsive controls for your avatars fight.... See? it is that simple. Discussion closed. {mod edit} Truth is, its not the game that disgusts me its the poor bastards that have been sucked into this void of mindless, unoriginal boredom. |

I didnt say frustrated i said disgusted. And again the game doesnt disgust me its the blizz worship practiced by those that defend the game no matter how silly it becomes. Can anyone tell me how a game with space travelers and the tetechnology to build helicopters and motorcycles cannot develop a weapon more advanced than a black powder rifle? Ive also wondered why the space travelers use clubs instead of ray guns. Im sure there is a reasonable explanation for it somewhere within the deep lore of Warcraft. |

WoW has lasted a while, but i don't think it can remain the dominant MMO forever. Theres a world full of potential out there, wow holds a loyal following sure, is it a good game? yes, i think it is. But after a while, people will just start craving something new. I played WoW only for a few months myself, from december of 08 and quit playing sometime around february. After i made it to level 80 and doing the same raids over and over, i realized that i needed something new myself, and so i quit wow. I'm currently waiting for something new (particularly guild wars 2), but if something else catches my eye, i might give it a shot. I'm sure theres a few people that agree with me somewhat on this point. All i know is that playing anything for too long can get old. It can, and probably will, happen to wow one day. When it does, people will just migrate to something else. |
